Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Not getting political but I suspect more recent events make delaying the election more hazardous.

Im hoping we finally come to getting people vaccinated and learning to live with Covid somehow.
Always been of the opinion the PM is mad not to pull an early election. His position can only get weaker. Only proviso for this is we don't have a COVID breakout, if substantial he'll hold on for dear life.

Planning Poland and France trip July 2022 this afternoon, adding St Nazaire and Saumur to my list of towns I'll be visiting. Fully vaccinated already and prepared to do some form on home quarantine if needed. Can only hope!

I'm not convinced they will go early, but I would definitely like them to. The polls are not suggesting a landslide if an election were held today, which is normally the trigger to go early. I think May 2022 could work for the government if everyone that wants to is fully vaccinated by then and everyone that isn't can get a vaccine appointment almost whenever they want or simply walk-in. We could have multiple new dedicated quarantine facilities up and running or close to operational by then facilitating an increase in quarantine capacity and a gradual reopening of borders.

I am hoping that fully vaccinated results in blanket permission to leave and home quarantine upon return. They could make people post a bond that they forfeit if they are found to have broken home quarantine rules. I have said numerous times that the lack of creative thinking is astonishing - to rely on hard borders and lockdowns is ridiculous (made sense last year, not now - the plans should have been better). And I will end with - IT. WAS. AND. IS. A. RACE. [re: vaccination]

I think the key issue is the impact on the health system. We would also need to get rid of the need for testing and isolation for those who are vaccinated (so the doctor/nurse and their families - assuming they are all vaccinated - would not need to get tested and isolate).

Don't know if there is 'no' scientific reason to refuse vaccination. Science has linked blood clots with AZ and inflammation of the heart to Pfizer.
The risks have been blow out of proportion. Everyday things people do are riskier. Things like birth control have risks that most women don’t even think about because they odds are so low. The media bears a fair amount of responsibility as does the government for lack of education/transparency claims (the arbitrary and changing aged cut-off certainly didn’t help), but people need to accept that the only way to covid normal is a vaccine and get on board or risk falling ill when the borders open. The borders need to open on a fixed date post full vaccine availability. The percentage of people who refuse to get vaccinated cannot drive the opening decision.

Look like we are all one nation now. NT gone into lockdown as well and Stage 1 restrictions being brought in to Perth.

Do I support the right for anybody to decide not to have the vaccine if that’s what they choose?
ABSOLUTELY!

Do I support once everybody has had the opportunity and been offered the vaccine and you choose not to, then the borders open and you take on all risks personally, medical costs related to a Covid diagnosis, Restrictions on not being able to go to a sporting events theatre, concerts etc and obviously no international travel?
ABSOLUTELY!

The Anti-Vax crowd are quick to tell you it’s their choice, They are 100 percent correct.

How long now before international arrivals are cut? I’m sure there’ll be some sort of knee jerk reaction.

noooooooooo. My son has just bought a ticket into Sydney on Singapore Airlines arriving 14 August. They finally sorted out his professional indemnity insurance and he has permission to WFH during the 14 day quarantine period.

Oh that’s good to hear. It’s been a long wait for your son.

Fingers crossed they won’t cut the intake (IMHO the safest And most logical time to actually bring more foreign travellers in is when the city they are travelling to is in lockdown.). NSW seems to usually hold firm so hopefully will be OK for you. We’re booked into Perth on 24th July, I’m more worried about WA than perhaps I would be about NSW.

I'm sure some of this pressure is coming from business. Anyone who has overseas operations has been unable to be on the ground for over a year now.

The recent situation with the domestic flight attendant could harm domestic tourism as well. The airlines need to reassure the passengers that the plane is as safe as the airlines can make such space. For my next trip, I want to fly with an airline that can assure me that ALL OF THEIR STAFF who interact with me, my family, my luggage are vaccinated (except those with medical conditions justifying not vaccinating). I don't view this as "authoritarian" or "freedom limiting" - I view this as appropriate risk-based analysis of the facts as we know them. These are the types of things that are going to be required to live in a COVID normal world.

Agree, only thing getting me through this is knowledge that we are still vaccinating our population, albeight slowly, and that once we get everyone who wants on done, and further time and education to anti-vaxxers's, we should open up by middle of next year. Europe and USA will be fully done by middle to end of this year, and good portion of SE Asia by early to middle 2022.

Saw some data showing the way out by vaccination last night, not CDC confirmed, but very positive still:

For month of May 2021 in USA

Hospitalisations from COVID 853,000, fully vaccinated hospitalisations 1,200.

Deaths from COVID 18,000, fully vaccinated deaths 150.

Both above under 1% for fully vaccinated, 99%+ for non-vaccinated.

Certainly telling................................

However given the attitude of the Australian community, that won’t be good enough.
