Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

If they leave them closed that long I suspect a number of us will get fed up and try going via NZ or SIN if we have a bubble with them by then. I'd probably seriously consider going for 3 months starting November 2022 if the borders are still shut then with no end in sight and no likelihood of getting an exemption.
This is our plan for next year.

I don't know why people are still surprised. Come September/October of this year, I am quitting my job and going overseas with the understanding that I may not be able to come back for a few months.

I have given up on inbound travel being allowed.

An article in the straights times from the Singaporean Finance and Health Ministers laying out the roadmap to the new normal. Our national cabinet should take note.

ScoMo basically said Australia will not be going down this road when asked last night.

Australia's current Covid status is seen as an embarrassment thanks to government arrogance in the rest of the developed world.

Last in the OECD for vaccine rollout, country shutting down state by state again, anger amongst the population.

Now where are all those screaming Australia is a "paradise" again?

It is but then Scomo will not control the narrative.
A survey on news.com.au today has 90% of responders agreeing with Singapore's plan. If the media can wedge him then....

This is why borders are never opening up - Its economics
Yes but now the flip side is happening. Negative population growth is contrary to growing the economy. Surely they can't be thinking that what worked in the beginning in stopping the virus when there was no vaccine, will lead us out into recovery? God help us. Oh wait.

The PM has just doubled down on the hotel quarantine until next year...

That was always going to be the case though.

Note that in the PM's “no changes to hotel quarantine until next year” he flagged that skilled migrants and students would start coming in the next 6 months. Who gaf about letting your citizens back in when there’s students to prioritise?!

from the same article - hopefully science will impact the ultimate position taken:

Professor Greg Dore, an infectious diseases expert with the Kirby Institute, said delaying changes to the quarantine system lacked “ambition and public health common sense”.

“Adoption of home quarantine for fully vaccinated returnees from low and moderate caseload countries would be extremely low-risk and provide an initial step towards more flexible and expanded quarantine models,” Mr Dore said.

its perfectly simple really, you want people to get the jab, tell them once fully vacinated you can travel where you like and quarantine at home when you get back.

its simple. ITS SO SIMPLE.

walking around canberra today, no mandate to wear a mask outdoor - 95% of people masked up, living in fear, when there is 0 covid in the whole state.

if this is the sheep-like attitude of the populace i'm never going to be able to see my family again
