Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

There are tens of thousands of aussies in the U.K. waiting to come home to see family (me included).

however I don’t see how the U.K. can be anything but medium/high risk from Australia’s perspective. We had 40k cases yesterday - people will go mad about that. And if it’s still 2 weeks home quarantine it’s a killer for so many people inc me - I don’t have that much leave and I am not sure my Aussie family would commit to 2 weeks isolation with us!

Hopefully it’s a sign of an intention to shift the narrative. The UK features strongly in all talk of international travel.

Hmm… book on SQ in early November. I was about to move it, but I might sit on my hands for another few weeks

Plenty of details still to come on the removal of the travel ban but it would be completely ridiculous if a NSW resident, for example, could fly to Singapore for a couple days then fly to WA, thereby avoiding the ban on interstate travel. Heck, even spending 14 or more days in Singapore then flying to Perth would presumably be acceptable while flying from NSW to WA domestically would be a no-no.

A lot more water needs to pass under the bridge, but at present WA authorities are at defcon covid-zero, so they will more than likely opt out of any home quarantine scenario and keep hotel quarantine. More probably for the period they are under 80% of the population (last I heard WA authorities are aiming for 12+ eligibles as their base).

If SA goes to a lite (edit hotel home) quarantine, that might be the best option Sydney to Singapore, then to Adelaide for 3-7 day quarantine, then over the border to WA (assuming SA/WA border remains open and WA authorities don't have an extra rule preventing this from happening - remember WA authorities did insert a rule against being in NZ at anytime in the previous 14 days when the Trans-Tasman bubble was being used as a loophole to enter WA via NSW/Vic/etc while WA authorities did not agree to the NZ bubble).

Got flights to the US via Japan booked for 4th of December. Looking like I’ll make it…

It’ll be interesting to see what the foreign airlines do with capacity. Plenty still have their schedules loaded even though they haven’t operated here for a long time.

Unlikely such a scenario would exist.

Singapore currently has a few hundred cases a day and those cases are likely to remain at that level or even higher as they start to open. Given WA has shut off VIC at even 200 odd cases a day, it would be counterintuitive that WA would have an open border with Singapore but not another Australian state whilst both have similar case numbers.

The bit of bad news is that Singapore has just recorded over 1000 cases for the last week and this is causing some concern for their government. If the Singapore trial fails because of big increases in cases/hospitalisations, I really wonder if the Aust gov would actually open intl borders.

its why i went EK, their flights still going over Aus every day i'm presuming thats not just freight i'm seeing lol

I wonder if the home quarantine will be restricted to airlines with a vaccine mandate? I don't believe EK or QR have mandated it yet.

Lol just had a mini freakout and checked that the flight I’m booked on is still Operating. JL774. Thankfully it is…

JAL do seem to have been coming in fairly consistently so fingers crossed. I’m on SQ222 which seems to operate daily. My date in early November has two SQ departures to SIN.

Until the arrival documents for WA states "have you been in NSW or VIC in the last 14 days?" ... then it comes unstuck. While one may be "arriving" from SIN, the question may well be asked regarding where one has been in the previous 14 days.
