Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I am very angry. I was a life long liberal voter. I will not be voting for them at the next election. I may have to do a spoiled ballot to get my message across as the ACT always elects Labor anyway 🙃
I'm having fun thinking of appropriate phrases. Even if it's only the scrutineers who read it.

Not a tourist, but as an Australian who resides overseas, I am beginning to think that inbound quarantine is by far the easiest option rather than trying to work out how to get overseas vaccination status recognised in Australia, without a myhealthrecord or medicare card. Call number A, A refers you to B, B to C and C to A and around we go. Can fill in paper work, but they are currently only dealing with paperwork submitted early July. Best estimate for processing the paperwork is December. Which with Xmas means late January.

Hopefully the vaccination passports will be up and working, and it's two way (overseas recognition within Australia) ... unless they are foreign tourists will be "Locked Out" (to quote Dan), because businesses won't know how to recognise foreign vaccines. Another hot mess in the making.

Might be easier to just pop in to get a couple of AZ shots whilst I'm here, to boost the two Pfizers I had O/S. 🤣
I read on the FB page just now that Spain requires two Vax and a booster now!

Oh wow lets hope not...although i note that Israel hasn't reopened to tourism even with their vaccine rates - and they define fully vaccinated as 3 shots.

you're not alone in thinking that @dajop. I'm sure you've already seen this thread?

Well they are dealing with the Pfizer fade so will be interesting to watch how it all unfolds…

I believe they have approved a booster shot for the vulnerable. Fortunately that's a long way from requiring it for inbound travellers - although I'm sure that day will come.

I just had a look at the Spanish government website and I don't think that's true, it just says (provide a certificate with) "date of vaccination with full schedule, at least 14 days prior to arrival in Spain, with vaccines authorised by the European Medicines Agency or by the World Health Organisation, and country where vaccinated". I guess if they formalise the booster on the Pfizer schedule that would be required when you get to that point, but WHO are actively campaigning against the booster.

In any case they don't classify Australia as a risk so we don't need any vaccine (at the moment at least).

I know I am repeating myself, but I am in the same situation in reverse, with the UK not recognising my Australian administered AZ shots. I don't want to get unnecessary jabs, but equally I am not so keen to have to home quarantine and to pay for two extra covids tests every time I cross the UK border (if coming from an amber country). That said, there are rumours of changes to the traffic light system in the UK at the end of the month and also that Aussie vaccinations might be recognised for Aussies, which puts me in the odd position of probably using my Aussie passport to get into the UK to avoid home quarantine.

As UK has given Aus millions of vaccines it’s not an issue. We are green now anyway?

Apart from workers, do we have any information on which airlines are requiring vaccination for customers?
Excellent question. I am very curious as well.

Just this morning I was thinking of a few choice words to write on my ballot as I do not want to vote for either party (state or federal).

I know that only the scrutineers will see it, but I feel very motivated to express my true feelings about the way the borders have been closed and the appalling treatment of people with families overseas.

Problem wasn't with the Pfizer, but with the Australian produced AZ. I assume it was because the Melbourne facility wasn't registered/approved of a source of AZ vaccine. I wonder if AZ are making the necessary applications to broaden the approval for Melbourne produced vaccine.

They allow EU approved vaccines for EU travellers and US approved vaccines for US travellers.

It's a safe bet if Australia was to be put on the Amber list they would recognise AUS approved vaccines, especially as we have the same mix as them.

As for EU travel, the Australian TGA is already speaking with the EMA to get recognition of our AZ. The EU also plans to accept other nation's covid passports so that could also be part of it.

That's not correct, the UK certifies vaccination programs in addition to the vaccines themselves. You could have British made AZ and it still wouldn't be recognised. What you say is true for the EU but refer to my post above, the wheels are in motion so to speak.

This applies if you’re fully vaccinated under either:

  • the UK vaccination programme
  • the UK vaccine programme overseas
  • an approved vaccination programme in Europe or the USA - not all are recognised in England

This is just alarmist thinking. We've had open borders since after the Spanish flu when any number of diseases could have spread here. Nothing is ever a guarantee, but you can only go on what we know. Closing borders for things that do not exist is just way over the top and will destroy civilisation.

A slippery slope to normality - wow - count me in!

Completely agree - beyond ridiculous rhetoric from the let's keep Aus locked forever crowd.

I think the WA Premier doesn't want QF to transit PER on the way to LHR.

McGowan appears to not be a nice person with this and the fact that he's taking a swipe at stranded Aussies is indicative.

WA is lucky because the rest of the world is moving and the mining industries are booming. Wait till the world hardly used iron ore and coal in a decade or so and let's see how their economy is doing then.

The issue isn't whether a country is on the amber list or not and it's not something that is aimed at Australia particularly in any way. It is simply that the UK do not currently accept any vaccines administered outside the UK, the US and the EU, even to UK citizens, whether or not they actually have approved those vaccines. Which means if you were jabbed in Australia (with AZ or with Pfizer), you are treated as unvaccinated for the purpose of testing and home quarantine. I'm sure it will change in time, but currently that's how it is.

I understand that, my point was there's no motivation for them to recognise Australian vaccines at the moment as Australia is a green country and we can't travel anyway.

I am sure with the close diplomatic relations, the minute Australians can travel and they put us on the Amber list, that recognition will come quickly.

I've mentioned this before but I received the EU version for first one (given before CSL kicked in) but there's no differentiation in my certificate as to which batch I had.
