I understand that, my point was there's no motivation for them to recognise Australian vaccines at the moment as Australia is a green country and we can't travel anyway.

I am sure with the close diplomatic relations, the minute Australians can travel and they put us on the Amber list, that recognition will come quickly.

I don't think being green is greatly relevant given there are no nonstop flights between the two countries at the moment. Particularly if you go via the Middle East.

In all honesty my particular beef is being a fully vaccinated Brit flying to the UK and having to quarantine when Americans (sometimes with fake certificates) and Europeans don't.

The AU-UK FTA is almost as important to the UK as it is to us. I'm certain neither country want something as simple as the UK recognising vaccinations in Australia to derail that process. Travel between the UK and Australia is very important to many Australians including myself.

At some future point, I am sure it won't. But I'm heading back to the UK via a non-green country later this month and unless the rules change by then I will be heading into home quarantine.

I see Canada has recognised a batch of vaccines and they can be given in any country... translations where required must be in English or French. Seems much more straightforward than the UK's model.

The issue isn't whether a country is on the amber list or not and it's not something that is aimed at Australia particularly in any way. It is simply that the UK do not currently accept any vaccines administered outside the UK, the US and the EU, even to UK citizens, whether or not they actually have approved those vaccines. Which means if you were jabbed in Australia (with AZ or with Pfizer), you are treated as unvaccinated for the purpose of testing and home quarantine. I'm sure it will change in time, but currently that's how it is.

For Amber countries, that is where vaccination status becomes an issue. If you are coming from an amber country, you will only be treated as "fully vaccinated" if you've had your jab in the UK/US/EU, as Louie-m correctly stated.

In saying that though, who knows what colour rating Australia will be come Dec/Jan.

That's not correct, the UK certifies vaccination programs in addition to the vaccines themselves. You could have British made AZ and it still wouldn't be recognised. What you say is true for the EU but refer to my post above, the wheels are in motion so to speak.

One suspects by the time Australian residents get the chance to travel to the other side of the world, this might just be sorted out. Or hope at least.

True - although between now and December, I somehow thing the travel traffic lights in the UK will be dismantled - I hope so anyway.

I think I read the (internal) border to Abu Dhabi is still closed to Dubai if you aren’t vaccinated.

Out of interest, what makes you think that? UK home quarantine is 10 days and always has been, they've not felt it appropriate to reduce it despite it being around for 18 months or so now.

Australia hasn’t worked out what is the appropriate time for home quarantine. One State gvt has pointed to Singapore which has a 7 Day home quarantine for some instance, another gvt has pointed to a two test and release (which could mean as low as 3 days home quarantine.

I guess/hope we find out more after National Cabinet next week
