Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Given VIC is allowing people from NSW in, can I just book LHR-DRW-SYD and hop straight onto a SYD-MEL flight? Am I missing something here? Seems a bit too easy after the strict restrictions since covid started.
That’s correct. Foley was questioned today with this. Whilst I don’t expect VIC to follow on NSW straight away I think this is what may happen early next year. I’m happy to be swabbed and go to NSW if that means I can see my family after 2 years

They've made it very clear that it will be open to non-VIC residents so technically anyone can come from overseas via SYD and then to MEL. It seems we are starting to have some common sense and align to what the rest of the world is doing. Pre covid test -72 hrs, then arrival.

The real question is when are the other states going to drop the zero case non-sense. Great strategy when we started, but not the strategy to keep.

Will CA now move the first test match away from Brisbane ?
I’d imagine that the players will land in SYD and spend time to get over their jet lag. Maybe 14 days give or take exploring Bondi and perhaps Byron whilst QLD health works on granting them an exemption in their super special process to enter there without quarantine.

I may be a tad cynical 🧐

With good reason for your Cynicism Princess.
Though I have a feeling AP will fold for Christmas.Quite possibly the day after the current CHO moves on.She might then actually get some expert advice.

…. and a good supply of face masks. Maybe try and reserve an ICU bed if you have some pull. 🤭
Sorry not following your meaning 😳 Do you think Queanbeyan is a hot bed of COVID relative to Canberra or am I missing it totally?

No. Just wondering how the NSW hospital/health system will cope when open slather rolls out.

Edit: Probably driven by the one in five who will not have had the jab, for whatever reason 😕. Anyway, that’s a bit of a way-off still. Time to focus on getting in and out of Oz, which is where this started (I think. 😀). Queanbeyan it is.

Best funded health care system in the world. With one of the highest vaccination rates in the world. With 18 months nearly COVID free to get ready. We'll be fine. Some of our staff will have to give up their 3 hour lunches and cruisey clinics, but 99% of them are up for it.

Singapore Airlines to open up 32,000 seats by this afternoon for sale!

I note they are still waiting for the unvaccinated issue clarification “This paves the way for many Australians to return home, but more detail is needed on how to facilitate unvaccinated passengers within the revised international arrival caps that will come into effect from 1 November 2021,” he said.

I tried doing a dummy booking run to the payment page for Scoot yesterday and nowhere did they ask for vaccination status.

What happens if the number of unvaccinated people booking across all airlines for that one week passes 210. And more than 210 reach Sydney. Its not like the airlines are talking to each other so they can coordinate.

My understanding is unvaxxed can only travel on special [government controlled] unvaxxed flights.

I think the federal govt will mandate vaccination for adult travellers to Australia.. especially foreign students and tourists... Then have a pre-approval system for unvaxxed, which allocates quarantine capacity.

So at check-in it's either "vaccine certificate" or "unvaxxed travel permit"

If they are worried about fake certificates , the current system of travel authorisation will probably continue, with government verifying vaccine certificates (as opposed to a checkin agent).

Airlines like Scoot are not asking for vaccination status though. So are they going to kick off the unvaxxed at the boarding gate?

Yes, I assume the airlines would handle it the same way as other cases where you are not eligible for entry into the country. Airlines don't ask whether you have a visa when you buy a ticket, but it's on you to ensure you meet the entry requirement for the country you are travelling to.
