Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

seeing some more inventory ex-Asia drip in via Scott and TG at present

the usual hash-up of planning and communication by both the NSW and Feds isn't helping I'm sure
This is in the “good problem to have” department. While the planning sucks, remember when we thought 18 December was optimistic?

If the flight is operating it’s just a cabin crew roster and res systems change, plus Menzies or whoever the ground agent is firing up again.

Bit longer if you aren’t operating but remember most airlines are well into ramping up already so adding SYD isn’t as big a deal as QFINT rampup

Scoot has brought forward its Singapore to Sydney dates to Nov 1 now!

Scoot have been flying and selling seat SIN-SYD since July. They haven't brought anything forward. You can buy seats in October even. They seem to have opened up more seats for sale from 1 Nov though, at lower fares .... $1100 one way economy without bags or any addons. Still expensive for a LCC.

Not good for those of us who live abroad and ineligible for Medicare. As per usual they have forgotten about expat Aussies. Lots of chatter on the expat forums about this.

I'm ineligible for medicare, but miracuously a card appeared during May, I'd been without one for 10 years. Not sure what triggered it, but I'm not using it for actual medical services.

That aside my partner is also ineligible and does not have a current medicare card. He was able to (after a bit of hassle and a lot of time on hold) set up an Individual Health Identifier record that enables access to myhealthrecord and it to be all linked via mygov without getting a medicare card. I think it was made slightly easier identifying himself through an expired medicare card, but many people have probably thrown these out long ago.

where all this BS is coming from about carriers suddenly starting to fly routes they've flown for the whole of 2021.
More about suddenly starting to show inbound availability where previously there was none.

Lady at SYD int'l newsagent at gate 60 reckoned this week was the worst she'd seen for outbound. Possibly people were delaying departures.

Yes, I'm sure you're right. But there is a narrative out there, that works politically, that foreign carriers stopped flying into Australia like QF did, whereas they didn't - it was just the caps government imposed that made any seats they could sell snapped up quickly. The same narrative also suits the QF brand - who did stop all flight as we all know, and the "heroes" for re-starting them. Whereas foreign carriers just need to turn the tap on, so to speak.

I'm sorry but I've come very cynical as I get older about professional spin merchants rewriting history and the punters all just believing it.

Anyone planning to (at least temporarily) relocate to NSW for business reasons?

Good news, hopefully WA will follow suit, but unlikely and can't find award availability to SYD to try that route into PER for a better chance of the flight operating. Who is going to trawl back through the thread to see who got the prediction right? 😉

…Thanks @Peter78 - really helpful.
An EU code sounds like it would cover all bases with our proposed trip. If I understand correctly it essentially provides evidence of vaccination ( won’t be unique to Italy as such).

My holiday is booked far away into the ether and glad I’ve got months to watch the changes, deal w the complexities and adapt. I refuse to entertain border stays shut and it all goes kaput .

PS - how exciting we are getting help from AFFers about actual travel plans (don’t include colony-lockdown-quarantine-roulette here)…
It's a long time away, I wouldn't even worry about it as things will change a lot between now and then.
I hope your trip was for leisure - then lucky you :) Never heard anyone that I know say these statements in a while now .... :D
Past few months for me...
This case of Aussies and families only makes me a bit happier.

Because I would hazzard a guess and say that in the first 2 weeks of November, people coming into Australia would just be stranded Australians and most of these would be fully vaccinated with TGA vaccine.

So less chances of reaching the 210/week limit.
Yes, my colleague who is currently stuck in the UK on a temporary visa is rejoicing and now has a flight booked into MEL via SYD.

Given VIC is allowing people from NSW in, can I just book LHR-DRW-SYD and hop straight onto a SYD-MEL flight? Am I missing something here? Seems a bit too easy after the strict restrictions since covid started.
