Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Assuming the process for getting recognised by immigration and recognised by the airline is simple, just focus on making your online health record is up to date and linked to Medicare.

As soon you are in the country pop into a chemist who is a registered vaccine provider and ask them to add it to the AIR - the immunisation register. For me that bit took me <5 mins, I just went to the closest chemist (who are registered vaccine provider, but don't do COVID shots) at a quiet time, and they were happy to do it. The longest and most painful bit for me, having been away for 12+ years was getting my individual health identified (IHI) set up although if it's already set up would be much easier.
Not good for those of us who live abroad and ineligible for Medicare. As per usual they have forgotten about expat Aussies. Lots of chatter on the expat forums about this.

There has to be some benefits for PRs and Citizens, plus there's an election coming soon. With huge pent up demand and limited flights I think many would be annoyed if they can't get a seat because foreigners are filling the flights, especially those who have been trying to get home to Australia from overseas for a long time. Once a lot of that backlog is cleared then restrictions should be eased further, but that may not be till next year.

According to the Services Australia guidance here there is a path available for people ineligible for Medicare. It says you can obtain an Immunisation History Identifier if you don't already have one, and you'll need that to have your overseas vaccination added to the AIR at a pharmac_ or other vax provider once you're in the country. There are multiple linked pages on that site but, if I am following it correctly, you can subsequently obtain an Immunisation History Statement and the Covid-19 digital proof of vaccination, through MyGov - all without being eligible for Medicare or having a Medicare account.

Why the pessimism? It has already been announced the Commonwealth is working on getting the vaccine details for those vaccinated OS into the Aussie system. As well surely just bringing your UK vaccine proof would be accepted anyway.Businesses are not going to deny those fully vaxxed patrons just because they don't have a medicare card.

Just think of the literally hundreds of pessimistic posts on these threads in the last few months saying they know nothing will happen until 2022 at the earliest.Or the Government hasn't been making any plans. There is no possible way that the announcement by the NSW Premier and the PM today haven't been planned for some time. They probably been having discussions about when the best time for the announcements should be made.Quite frankly if only just to cause the maximum political pain on their opponents.
My Cynical side says it was agreed DM would make the announcement first so that the PM could see the reaction and be able to blame DM if it all blew up.

I was thinking of all the posts about not enough detail, who can/can't come etc. I am like you, pleased as punch that it is opening and very proud to be in the state that takes a real world approach to risk assessment.
Exactly right about proper risk assessment/management, or is it risk appetite? I still can’t quite believe NSW will bypass home quarantine completely and in one bound implement a regime like numerous other countries.

I’ve been disconnected from news most of the day and returned to find we’re about to enter a braver new world. Caught the end of a news report on the radio with the reporter saying ‘no home quarantine for international arrivals’ and initially thought the media had got it wrong (again).

Wine o’clock has arrived earlier than usual this afternoon😀.

I welcome this news and I am not even based in SYD. It gives me an option to return via SYD domestic to ADL and then deal with whatever quarantine rules the DPRSA will have in place at the time. Until today's announcement I was only looking for direct flights into ADL so not to be stuck in another state for a while.

seeing some more inventory ex-Asia drip in via Scoot and TG at present

the usual hash-up of planning and communication by both the NSW and Feds isn't helping I'm sure
