Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

This the day that just keeps on giving. It always struck me as unfair that my parents (I'm a dual-citizen UK expat) were not considered immediate family for the purposes of border exemptions and now this looks to be on the way out. I'm in Victoria so all we need now is for Dan to match Dom in ditching the home quarantine and everything will have fallen nicely into place.

This is the most upbeat I have felt, with regards to the pandemic, since day dot.

So how long until the international flights into BNE & MEL cancel? Surely not cost effectively now if you can fill them up to SYD.

Not so sure- something tells me that Melbourne will only be two weeks (or two days?) behind. Brissy is a different story...
I think VIC could take a bit longer. The VIC Premier may wish to be a bit more cautious. The case numbers are still high here and another lockdown may be one too many for him to stay as Premier. I think he'd rather risk being accused of taking too long to open up than being accused of opening up too soon.

Say VIC reaches 90% first dose later this month (covidlive is estimating just 6 days, but that will probably slip), then 90% fully vaccinated before December 1 could be a real possibility. So I think VIC may have December 1 as a day to reopen to international flights similar to what NSW is planning for November 1.

HUGE pressure now as people in NSW and VIC book Fiji (or anywhere else) and call up tourism operators in the Gold and Sunshine Coasts and cancel

You should watch their presser today. (AP wasn't there). The Health Minister was absolutely gleaming when she corrected the CHO that the domestic home quarantine trial had expanded to 800 people from 400 people.

Domestic. Home Quarantine. Trial. 800 people.

No words.

Who's complaining? I'm certainly not!

Just waiting now for Qantas or Air New Zealand to start selling AKL-SYD flights for 1 November...
I was thinking of all the posts about not enough detail, who can/can't come etc. I am like you, pleased as punch that it is opening and very proud to be in the state that takes a real world approach to risk assessment.

Fantastic. She needs to set targets and dates.

I cannot wait to see my family back in Europe for Christmas.
Been 2 years and missed two funerals.

Could book today but cannot come back to Brisbane.
Come on - we are almost there.

Domestic. Home Quarantine. Trial. 800 people.
It's shocking.

Hasn’t changed my world - temporary resident who now has to watch all my work colleagues and neighbours fly around the world. But on semantics I am classed as not ‘living’ here. I have no issue with Australian citizens and permanent residents being included but cannot fathom how ‘residents’ who have been fully present in Australia for over 2 years are classed as sub citizens. Maybe I will ask my next door neighbour to go and visit my elderly parents for me.
I'm in the exact same boat as you. My boss already asking people when they want to take Christmas leave and I'm frustrated with the inequality going on. I get the desire to continue shutting off tourism out of an abundance of caution, but what risk do I possess as a temporary visa holder living (for the past 5 years), working and fully-vaxxed in Australia? Does my passport present a health risk?

I do have PR relatives here, maybe they can hug my parents for me.

I wish Dom could annex Qld and send Anna off to some Olympics office. So jealous of NSW opening up! But happy stranded Aussies can come home. I hope the rest of the state borders fall like dominoes now.

So, who is the real Premier of Oz? 🤣
