Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I remember going BNE-AKL on Freedom Air in late 1997 and jagging an exit row without a seat in front of me. As a lanky 17 year old I was in heaven!

I’m with MissM here!! I have also seen on many flights mum and dad in J whilst teens languish in goat class. I feel like calling child services 😂😂😂
I to have seen parents in J and kids in Y, the rule is simple in our household we all travel in the same class. When MissM was asking about future travel, points or if I would pay this was with her friends in a few years without us.

The first (inbound) freedom flight is on its way - having left LAX a couple of hours ago

It looks like the actual first international arrival into SYD might turn out to be SQ221 from Singapore, which is estimated to arrive well before 6am. The odd thing is this flight has not operated as a passenger-carrying flight for a long while now as the usual double dailies are SQ231 and SQ211 (supplemented by SQ241 thrice weekly).

I am flying to Melbourne this week and the amount of paperwork and PCR test is crazy:
Australia travel declaration
Victoria international permit
PCR test 72 hours prior to the flight
PCR test 24 hours after arrival into MEL

Victoria international permit
For goodness sake are we still doing this rubbish? Bureaucracy looking out for itself.

More risk going out for dinner in Melbourne than Singapore but sure more tests. Does anyone calculate the damage to the environment from this stuff? Or is net zero to be achieved by happy thoughts alone.

Israel becomes the one hundred and first country to allow entrance of double vaxxed sputnik tourists.

Only 30 require some quarantine and 51 require a negative PCR or positive antibody test.
20 allow quarantine free admission without other testing.

Doesn’t count as not a Qantas flight.

(Or more specifically SQ didn’t have the combined efforts of the Qantas and federal government PR machines promoting the flight to the lazy media)

I can't believe we haven't seen a press release from Singapore Airlines yet about this! The Qantas PR machine would've been all over it 😂

Using my crystal ball here, but to answer the thread title, I predict that international will resume today!

On a more serious note I'm surprised the first flights aren't full. QF12 (a 787) had just 53 pax onboard. SQ221 wasn't much better either.

Somebody forget to inform the Travel Insurers. eg: Qantas International Travel Insurance not available.

If you follow any of the Facebook groups for stranded Australians, Qantas' reputation has been absolutely trashed over the past 19 months as they abandoned international travel while airlines like Singapore and Qatar kept flying without interruption.

Indeed, Qantas just this week cancelled flights to Melbourne due to low patronage, showing that they are among the most unreliable airlines flying into Australia.

Stranded Australians are voting with their feet and picking more reliable airlines. Expect Singapore Airlines' passenger numbers to be through the roof. It doesn't help that Qantas is often more expensive than its competitors.

Both of Singapore airlines flights into Sydney today are less than half full. United's two services into SYD today were about 10% and 40% full (LAX and SFO). I don't think it's fair to say the other carriers are "through the roof".

Hopefully it'll change soon but given the number of people both wanting to return and people wanting to travel away I'm surprised flights aren't busier at first like they were with the trans tasman bubble.

Confidence will take some time to come back plus whole categories of travellers are still banned.
