Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Neither should have been landing at those time because that is during Curfew, 6am is supposed to be first landing.

SQ221 landed at 5:20am after holding for about 20 minutes and QF12 landed at 6:03am (after holding for 30 minutes).

Obviously SQ221 was before the 6am curfew but within the 5am-6am shoulder period.

the Act provides for international passenger movements between 11pm and midnight and between 5am and 6am (the curfew shoulder periods) subject to

• jet aircraft meeting the strictest ICAO noise standards (Chapter 3)
• no more than 24 movements per week (no more than 5 on any one day) between 5am and 6am, which may only be landings [quota set by Regulation]

Understand the shoulder, but they are unlikely to heavily promote flights landing during curfew because its still (stupidly) a huge issue for those living near the airport, and drives complaints.

Hopefully it'll change soon but given the number of people both wanting to return and people wanting to travel away I'm surprised flights aren't busier at first like they were with the trans tasman bubble.

Probably a few reasons. Firstly if travelling from US or Europe, these were for departures on 30 October. November 1 was the publicised day, and whilst we all know that means departing on evening of 30th from far away lands (and 31st from not so far away lands), it may not have computed in peoples heads. Secondly, "stranded" Aussies, 20 months in, probably have made alternative plans by now - not necessarily long term, but certainly plans that mean many of them simply can't drop everything and be on the first flight back. This group will filter back over time. Thirdly, these are mainly only taking Australia citizens and/or resident - not foreign visitors, and for Australians who have a life abroad, it doesn't necessarily mean they'll be able to jump at the first opportunity, there are things like schooling, leave, prior work committments etc to account for. I wouldn't mind betting around the 20th November onwards, the leadup to Thanksgiving, flights are quite a bit fuller ex-US.

Worth noting that quarantine free arrivals were trumped by both of these flights with EK414 last night.
Some of the passengers were taken to HQ but by the time they arrived at the hotel it was after midnight and as fully vaccinated they were released to go home.

Hopefully not to receive a 14 day invoice from the hotel... although for a lot of passengers it might be easier to just check in and spend night 1 there.

That would be more likely to result in an invoice, than not checking in and simply calling an uber/taxi and going home.

The news media are being very deficient in the information they are supplying and you have to dig deep to find it. This event has been posted internationally and a client on mine in Sydney,( I'm in NZ), picked up an Item from the UK Guardian saying travel to Sydney and Melbourne was allowed without quarantine. He asked to see me next week in Sydney!!!
There are many coditions of this travel:
1. you need a PCR test 72 hrs before
2. you need an international vaccine certificate issued by the Australian Government. ( A foreign one would be accepted but NZ doesn't have one yet)
3. It's only open to Australian residents and family.

For NZ, there are also no flights until at least December 2021 and I would have to quarantine on my return, which is unlikely to be possible until 2022.

So no celebrations here yet.

Who cares about ease! If I got to the hotel and they said "you don't have to stay here for 14 nights you are free to go now, I would sleep on the street if I had to!

The International border isn’t controlled by NSW that’s the Australian Government but if you clear immigration in SYD and meet the health requirements for NSW there is no quarantine regardless of who you are.

The latter is specifically relevant to you and yes you can come to Sydney.
Can’t get back to NZ without MIQ though but that’s not an Australian problem to solve.

This outlines the actual tests you need to do after arriving in NSW

After arriving in NSW, you must have a COVID-19 nose and throat PCR test:
• Within 24 hours of arriving in NSW
• On or after day 7 after arriving in NSW
You are not required to isolate while waiting for your results, unless you have symptoms. If you develop any symptoms of COVID-19 at any time while in NSW, you must immediately get tested for COVID-19 and isolate until you receive a negative result

Additionally...

Until you receive a negative result from your day 7 test you must not go to any:
• high-risk settings, such as childcare, aged care, disability care, healthcare, schools, education and correctional facilities; or
• large gatherings (e.g. concerts, football matches); or
• hospitality venues, except to pick up take-away food or beverages.

As a Queenslander, is it possible for me to arrive in NSW, transit to QLD and then do home quarantine there (after Dec 17)? Or am I prevented from transiting? Do the “restricted premises” include domestic flights? So many questions...

We were planning on flying to Europe in December, but I’m wondering if that’s even possible with almost no flights ex Brisbane and huge question marks around transiting.
