If they add it to the childhood vaccination schedule then uptake will be higher, as more would not want to lose their benefits.

Personally if TGA and ATAGI approve it, then it should be a requirement for those groups to travel too once its been available for 3 months (ample time to do that whole group).

Anything's possible - and it would be good to see greater uptake - I'm just not sure it will get to that stage in this age group. The concerns, drivers and urgency are simply not the same. Delighted to be wrong on this.

If the Feds don't mandate vaccinations for 5-11 year-olds for international travel, some airlines e.g. QF could come under pressure to require it anyway.

Some state governments could require quarantine for unvaccinated 5-11 year-olds returning from overseas, effectively bringing in a mandate and putting pressure on the Feds to make it a mandate.

There's also the possibility that some foreign governments may require vaccination for 5-11 year-olds that visit there, so even if it's not a mandate at Australia's end it could still be required for travel.

The easiest thing they can do is add it to the no jab no play list and bang it will be done overnight.

It'll apparently be approved from 18 December, at the same time QF/3K transfers will be allowed. Obviously it remains to be seen if that date gets brought forward (it probably will be) plus it's worth adding that all transits in Changi must be on a single ticket for the time being.

Right now you can't transit SIN on two tickets (separate PNRs). And you can't enter unless you meet their entry requirements.

If you have two tickets on separate PNRs I'd reckon that SIA won't check you in for your first flight.

However, if you're travelling in March, it likely won't be under current conditions. I'd sit tight.

You'd have to be on a VTL flight, meet all the conditions (and expense) of entry into SIN.

If its purely for transit i really wouldn't bother. Unfortunately the days of separate tickets, dashing over on the skytrain etc are gone

For now. It is going to be increasingly unrealistic and unnecessary for these restrictions to continue in most places.

As a U.K. resident Aussie citizen with kids this is becoming tricky. 12-16yos with 1 dose (2 not permitted in the U.K. unless CV) already have to factor in 7 days quarantine which is tough if you want to come other than in aus winter (school breaks are 2-3 weeks over Christmas and Easter). I would be v surprised if the U.K. permitted 5-11 vaxx at all, which would mean my 5 year old couldn’t visit aus at all without 14 days hotel quarantine. Am a bit worried….

I think you’ll find that there will be further tweaks of the home quarantine as well, given how far VIC/NSW have moved forward from 14 days HQ for all.

I think they will be looking closely at the data coming in from those kids arriving now. If there are no or minimal cases from these kids/ families they might move to no quarantine and some surveillance rapid antigen testing.

Worst case scenario we can go to the US and get my son vaccinated there I suppose. Or maybe the U.K. will change its stance. JCVI (atagi equivalent) have been very cautious though - and probably rightly so.
