Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Does anyone know what is happening with direct flights to BNE from overseas? We should be in home quarantine stages by then. But no airline has seats direct from DXB, AUH, DOH or SIN to BNE in late January, but plenty of seats via MEL or SYD.

I don't want to be stuck in MEL or SYD!
Despite the ‘opening’ plan, Qld halved the caps again throughout november and december, and an awful lot of people were bumped in late October, including me (who had a full fare J ticket). As a result, seats into BNE from overseas are virtually impossible to obtain. For example, of the two daily scheduled SIN-BNE SQ flights, one was cancelled through those months.
But would the QLD government "allow" (in the knowledge they can't stop this) an international arrival to be on the same aircraft as a domestic traveller
They have been stopping entry altogether for months. Qld isn’t allowing anyone in at all apart from the usual essential worker, etc, exemptions, and the trickle being granted permission. Not sure how big the waiting list is, but last I saw it reported it was 13,000.

They promised to open up 17 Dec, until that it is a matter of choosing where to be stuck. I chose NSW.

cheers skip.

Tricky one though as the airport boundary is AFP jurisdiction not just the end of customs. The real legally-defined 'boundary' is likely some distance from the terminal where the land ceases to be Commonwealth/Crown.

The boundaries are quite extensive as shown in the illustration below (source)

Exactly! I am not trying to get in the current caps. I am trying to get into the uncapped home quarantine after the 17 Dec "freedom" day. This is why it doesn't make sense that the currently empty planes won't sell seats after 17 Dec ( Jan or Feb) to a double dosed Australian who meets the requirements for home quarantine. (Stand alone house, can pre-purchase food for 14 days, whatever else is needed). I have no where to stay in SYD or MEL at least not for free, so I just want to get off the plane, jump in my car and drive home.

Who would trust QLD, let’s be honest!

No it makes no sense at all that the caps would have been cut for flights after Dec 17, when the plan claimed uncapped arrivals for the unvaccinated. But they were.

who meets the requirements for home quarantine.
The requirements are an unknown right now, and the risk is you will get hotel quarantine instead If you don’t qualify. Airlines aren’t selling seats because of the many uncertainties.

BTW Airports are part of the states they are located in and you will find QPS at the domestic terminal and AFP at the international terminal. The splitup of the work they do is agreed under an agreed airport policing model called ‘all in’ that is discussed here.

Just with this one, my parents completed biometrics today and got told visas would be issued in 4-6 weeks, got notified of approval 2 hours later… so in all 7 days from when we made exemption request and visa application. Happy days!
Silvia, if you don't mind me asking, which visa are your parents using for their visit? Mine are booked to come from the UK in January for a 3 week holiday. I assumed they would use the eVisitor Subclass 651. They have never before had to complete biometrics.

I had a friend returned from the US today on DL41 in SYD. He was travelling with colleagues from QLD (he is from NSW).

They were fully vaccinated and NSW refused to put them into quarantine, and they connected to a domestic flight. QLD insist you must quarantine on your first port of arrival. Apparently they got the health exemption to come and quarantine from the domestic flight, but I'm guessing there will be a lot more of this in the weeks and months to come.

It will be very difficult if people exit and stay the night interstate and then fly onwards the next day.

Just to be totally clear - the final result of your friends colleagues who were QLD residents was, that they arrived in SYD from the USA, and NSW refused to put them in quarantine as per thier policy, so the QLD resident then flew domestic SYD-BNE and on arrival in BNE either ended up in:

1) QLD hotel quarantine ?
2) home quarantine ?

Just curios as to which one was the final result, and if it was hotel quarantine then obviously this would have taken up a "capped" hotel quarantine place in the QLD system, that can't be planned for, so what would have happened if the QLD hotel quarantine system was "full" on that day, what would the QLD government have done with this person then?

Off to Wellcamp 🤣

You most certainly can’t blame NSW. After all Queensland refused to pay its debt to NSW for quarantine for Queensland residents. And ripped the bill up live to camera.

Yeah - I know not blaming NSW - just wanted to know what actually happened. We know that Wellcamp isn't open yet, so when/if @justinbrett replies I would just be interested to know what happened to that person, if he knows.

Hotel. It was pre-arranged with QLD health prior to departing USA, on learning that they could not complete quarantine in NSW as was the old process (they departed in October before the travel ban was lifted). They all had exemptions.

Given you need a permit to fly to Qld from NSW atm they can manage the HQ arrivals.

In future if permits are no longer needed for domestic flights, then Qld will need to let the quarantine a home or I assume send them back to NSW for 14 days, but it is not on NSW to find them somewhere to stay given neither the Feds not NSE require fully vaccinated arrivals to do any type of quarantine unless they test positive on post arrival tests.

Yes, that will work. Ensure you also apply for the exemption too, then be prepared to sit nervously and wait while the 'all OK, exempt and no issues' comes through merely weeks before they're due to depart.
