Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I'm sure it's been discussed before, but I don't see QLD getting to 90% double dose, at all.

I also wonder if this QLD government talk of 14 days home quarantine between 80% and 90% is more of a gradual walk-back from tough policies to save face. Maybe they'll drop it once we hit 80-85%? Or for countries that are on the smarttraveller "green list" as the deputy CHO said the other week.....

I agree, I think only two things are going to get us there.

1) Broad sweeping mandates like in NSW and VIC that basically lock out anti vaxxers from anything fun / work

2) an outbreak

On point 1 - Our gov is putting some softer anti vaxxer lock outs in place in the future but personally I don’t think it’s hard or fast enough

On point 2 - this will happen probably in December / latest Jan

I know of at least one person who booked an appointment for their first vax straight after today’s announcement.
He can’t be alone in realizing that his needle phobia isn’t as bad as his love of pubs.

She forgot gyms, hairdressers, beauty salons and maybe clothes shops.

About needle phobia, I don't know why there is so much close-up footage of needles going into arms around. Almost every news item involving vaccinations, they will show these "horror" footage of someone being stuck in the arm.

But will it be the disease of 2020 or even mid 2021 by December. An interesting discussion with Dr.Nick Coatsworth who is a respiratory and infectious diseases physician who is also Executive Director of the Medical Services Group at Canberra Health Services..Here he talks about sotrovimab.
Of course, vaccinated people can still get COVID-19. But we have a range of other treatments as well. We have a new monoclonal antibody; this is a drug called sotrovimab, that if you give it within the first five days of symptoms to an unvaccinated individual, has a significant reduction in the incidence of ICU admission, intensive care admission or death.

And we've rolled out that to 70 patients here in the ACT, and only one of those has gone on to be hospitalised afterwards. So that's great news. So just wanted to emphasise that whilst we have to look at the capacity issues with our health system, that's the most important thing.

So, I was just checking up on how things are going up in Singapore, and whether they are getting any closer to the freedoms I now have at home in Sydney, with a lower total vaccination rate; this is even with having 90% of 16+ NSW residents fully vaccinated as of yesterday.

I ended my brief research upon finding an article in The Straits Times from 2 days ago, which refers to NEW easing of restrictions (excitement awaits!) such that not only can a vaccinated family group of up to 5 people go out for dinner, but from today, November 10th - that's right now, people! - those very same people, in those very same F&B venues can even be played some "soft recorded music", at the same time!

Take that, Dominic Perrottet!!!

Yeah, nah... I might just hold off on a booking, for now.

Cheers,
Matt.

The other thing to may be consider for Singaporeans coming here and Aussies going over there from 21 November "bubble" is how easy will it be to transfer vaccination records from the other country to a local app or some other medium for easy use to gain entry to local venues that require proof of vaccination. Of course paper might be easiest but will venues be allowed to rely on it.

Not sure if this is actually new news or old news being rehashed, but... "Travel bubbles with Japan, Korea soon: PM - Canberra Weekly" Travel bubbles with Japan, Korea soon: PM

Two-way quarantine-free travel to South Korea and Japan from Australia is being considered by the prime minister as the country looks to expand international travel.

Scott Morrison said the government was working quickly to establish the arrangements between the two Asian nations, following a similar deal with Singapore.

I wouldn’t hold your breath on this one. No matter how many time this gets ‘announced by the PM’ I never see anything ever reported in the japanese press. The Singapore bubble seemed more driven by Singapore than australia.

I think now that Australia is open it's an easier conversation. Before it was too difficult.

No one was chasing the PM up on this so he didn't have to make the comments he did, which makes me think that officials are getting it sorted out.

There's a lot of business travel reflecting Japanese investment in Australia (if you drink beer, it's most likely Japanese owned). There's an incentive as both Japan and South Korea are very big trading partners.

If it’s about business travel then Japan is ‘open’ for business travel. Yes the process is hopelessly bureaucratic but it’s there. I’m not sure australia has any say or influence in the matter. The japanese cabinet secretary has promised a further announcement on border opening ‘before the end of the year’.

Unsure why we’re talking about “bubbles”. From NSW and Vic, the majority of the world is open. The stupidly conservative policies of countries like Japan are not our issue.

Well, we only let Citizens and Residents in right now, so we would still need a "Bubble" which allows Japanese tourists in.

Going to Singapore, sounds quite easy

In what way? Pre-flight covid test, proof of vaccination - what else?
Proof of vaccination when entering venues in NSW or VIC. Unless we can issue them a certificate that looks like the usual Medicare one at the airport (which right now my understanding is we can't), I think venues will be confused by any other type of proof.
