Isn't it even more than that, that a large chunk of the people who don't want to get vaccinated legitimately don't care if they never go overseas?

The correct policy is: Screw them. I am entitled to leave. They can be vaccinated or not.

Unfortunately I don't see how that *can* be the policy - unless there's some sort of fundamental shift.

We saw yesterday that all non-essential elective surgery has been curtailed (or is it cancelled?) in NSW. We can't have whole wards of nursing staff and doctors going in to isolation because someone who chooses not to get vaccinated also has to visit hospital.

We need the vaccination rates rather than the 'let it rip' that we saw in the USA, UK and Europe. No one seems to be having much fun there at the moment.

Yes we (QLD) will be dead last. Hopefully our new CHO is less anti AZ vax than our current one that is half way out the door and can drive more uptake!

Fair enough, but we're all vulnerable to the current Delta strain.

Sydney hospital cases of age demographics indicate this.

Maybe they're setting the target at 80% in the hope it spurs people to at least get to 70%? And when we get to 70% they'll say the medical/economic advice says it's ok to have home Q.

I appreciate you are making a point, but that's not really true. It depends on which country (for example, coming from Turkey requires 10 days of hotel quarantine, coming from France requires 10 days of home quarantine - and that can change for the worse at a few hours notice) and whichever country it is requires one or more tests. It's not quite I fancy a weekend in Paris, let's book and fly today and have a stress free trip, like it used to be.

We already have that - its called private hospital insurance.

However, for those fully vaccinated - it is a much rosier picture, bar a very small list of exceptions as you've just noted i.e. the red list and the amber plus list.

There's still the cost, hassle and stress of testing (what if you test positive whilst away for example). But I get your point and don't disagree.

For now, yes! Although part of that could be to blame the AU Gov. In the EU and US where vaccination programmes are fairly solid, we're now accepting their vaccination records

Also confused about what you think is happening in the U.K. Some people are getting sick but life is now moving on largely as normal. People are travelling, I went to a festival yesterday - not locked down and panicking like in Oz.

My son is just back in Dubai after a 4 week holiday in Europe and he had a lot of fun. He also reported life as pretty normal everywhere he went.

Not if you’re double vaccinated. And if people choose not the be double vaccinated after being given fair warning once availablity is there, that’s on them. Not my job to keep making personal sacrifices for people who choose not to protect themselves.

Maybe not as soon as we'd like, but once that fully vaccinated percentage gets to say 40-50% the balance of public opinion between staying closed and opening up hopefully will shift considerably.

Hopefully in say October this pressure will lead to the plan as to when to allow international travel will change for the better.
