Long term i agree, but i still cant see them opening up the day that 70 / 80 % vaccination is achieved.

I think the other states will be watching how NSW goes will living with it before opening borders.

Then that may be it. But I suspect we’ll hit a plateau before then and need to reassess. For all the mass panic about this Sydney outbreak, it’s only caused fatalities in two people who were not eligible for a vaccine (and it’s starting to look like they had preexisting conditions).

There’s no reasonable way to get Sydney back to zero. Given we’re looking at October/November to hit the vaccine targets, it would be irresponsible for the NSW government to attempt any harsher restrictions purely to stroke the egos of other state premiers.

I think the ban on overseas travel will be lifted by then. I think the main issue will be the quarantine requirement on returning. I personally think home quarantine will be required - hopefully not the full 2 weeks but we'll see.

That raises another point. If I fly to Poland (and stay within that country) direct via Singapore. If both Singapore and Poland more or same vaccinated as Australia, and they both average say 100 cases per day, but we average 1,000 cases per day, what purpose does quarantine hold? Not holding back the floodwaters of COVID, it's already here, and in higher levels? Would be for posturing only, showing how lucky we are to be able to leave the country? DAFT.

The other thing that doesn’t make sense in New South Wales as why are we even have hotel quarantine anymore when we have 300 reported new Cases in the community each day (and some more that aren’t being recorded)…

I feel sorry for those with families interstate that they won’t see anytime soon but for those of us with parents overseas it has been years not weeks or months.

And many of us have a foot in both those camps. You know, because we used to live in the country of Australia, not a single state or territory that made its own widely divergent rules about anything really important outside trivial things like shop opening hours, supermarkets selling alcohol or not, what to call a glass of beer, or that deli meat you put in kids’ sandwiches.

oh well a little bit with registration of professional workers and licensing for drivers, but really, it felt like one country. Unlike now.

Well we are already the world champions of posturing - local COVID case = quarantine at home but overseas traveller, with or without COVID go to hotel for 14 days and hope you don’t catch COVID. Single digits of overseas acquired COVID cases arriving into NSW, hotels of you while it’s well over 1500 community cases a week. No COVID in a region, territory or state - nah, let’s lock down pre-emptively. Our contract tracers are better than yours. On and on it goes. So for sure, you know the answer to your own question. Sorry. I know you want to travel, but…

Indeed. Hence the AZ issues (that are tiny) should have been ignored. Scare-mongering and mixed messages about AZ are ultimately the government's fault. The government should never have allowed that to happen without a sufficient alternate supply. The messaging about AZ for over 50s only one week and over 60s the next and maybe over 50s again was an utter shambles. Many people have delayed vaccination waiting for Pfizer. Millions more people could have been fully vaccinated by now.

Agree. Their marketing gave a vacuum for the media to fill with panic and headlines. They seemed to lack confidence and this was reinforced when they didn't properly announce changes in direction. A very poor choice was to hold a Press Conference about AZ changes later at night. Way to create panic.

I too will head to Poland once borders open, but not in a rush & like to see the ppl here get on over to see family who may not be so well etc.

I'd be very confident by next June/July we'd be traveling to good portion of countries, once that occurs, you'll obviously be vac'd & test negative on return & HomeQ will be the go, how exactly is one for the crystal ball one & who cares really, you'll have travelled o/s to family. Hopefully those instant testing kits will be in use somehow. Even if we have to pay $100 for it.

I don't imagine there'll be limits, just certain countries will be restricted as they've always been or 'highly not recommended'.

Not sure if/how the un-vac'd will go with o/s travel & personally don't care much for them, really I care more for how ant's live day to day. But if your covid positive on return then maybe, just maybe you'll be directed to Howard spring (if transportation possible) or the Melb facility.

Also bugger everything that's happened, let's just push & be positive to others & achieve this 80%, so critical.
The mob here (me included) won't stand for any lockdowns after this point, cos we're never going to get much above 80% IMO anyway. It's as good as we're gonna get.

So Canada is now exempting fully vacicnated tourists from the need to do HQ, just have to get a negative test within 3 days of arrival. Simple and straight forward.

Well many would consider that it is disgraceful that we are allowing non-citizens into and out of the country but not allowing citizens to do the same. There are many citizens who want to travel to/from Australia but cannot due to the low caps and allowing non-citizens to travel here to do things like go on Big Brother.

Isnt the border shut to non-Australians anyway? I know there are some people who are exempt - but this is hardly a change from the status quo
