Last year they differentiated it by state - but now one size fits all. Thank you Delta. So someone traveling from Perth to Singapore will be stuck at home or inside a hotel for 2 weeks.

What does Delta mean for the tiers of quarantine operating at the moment in Singapore?

Now that delta is firmly entrenched in the EU, UK, US, Australia etc., does this mean Singapore just won't open up at all to anyone?

I assume now there are no plans to do this?

Delta is like stepping into the pile of the proverbial (on a world scale). Wherever you put that shoe is forever tainted even if it’s just a little bit (WA)..

It was only through variations that eventually the Spanish flu disappeared. We have to wait for the virus to outsmart itself. Bit like technology really. Fix fix break.

Not sure. They have indicated they will be looking to make more changes to travel restrictions come September. I've got a suspicion there will that this will be linked to stronger vaccination rates in 60-69 and 70+ age groups reach whatever targets they've set, and the 70+ age group is still only at 80% (younger age groups are higher) and obviously higher risk.

I don't think Delta has meant a lot to the quarantine tiers, except for Australia. It seemed to spell the death knell for the differentiated approach between states, whereas before at different times NSW or Vic had different restrictions to the rest.

Two things that have changed is that from 20 August, is that arrivals from certain countries can do 2 weeks at home (or certain other hotels) instead of in dedicated facilities (what we call hotel quarantine). That includes Australia, Canada and several European countries. (was already in place for Australia though, recently increased from 7 days quarantine at home for NSW only to 7 days for whole country to 14 days for whole country).

Hong Kong has just reclassified Australia (no separating by state) as a medium risk country. The only one considered low risk is NZ. What used to be 7 days' quarantine for vaccinated Australians and 14 for unvaccinated is now 14 and 21, respectively. If you think 14 days here is bad...

There was also an antibody test that could be done after landing that would reduce HQ to 7 days if there were sufficient antibodies. But one traveller tried to be smart about the testing (haven't read up on the details), so it's been removed.

Lots of people staying for a fortnight in certain European countries before heading to HK now have their plans in disarray.

This stop-start nature of travel does not seem to be going away anytime soon.

It depends where to. Some places have much higher case numbers than the whole of Australia.

Levels are:

1.Test on arrival, must isolate until result received, then free to go (visitors welcome too): NZ, Taiwan, China (exc. Jiangsu province), Brunei
2.Serve out 7 day "Stay at Home Notice" (SHN) at venue of choosing - Hong Kong, Macau, Jiangsu province
3. Vaccinated traveller serve out SHN at home or specific hotel - AU, AT, CA, DE, IT, NO, KR, CH (Australia, now, the rest from 20 Aug)
4. Serve out SHN at dedicated facility (what we call quarantine hotel).

Delta moved Australia rapidly from1 through to 2 and then to 3.

I'm actually getting more confident on a relaxing of overseas travel rules as COVID spreads more and more in NSW. with >500 cases a day, HQ is now redundant in NSW. As long as vaccination rates keep up, i foresee a relaxing of travel restrictions in the near future (e.g. October).

That would be logical. We’re seeing low single digit positivity rates in quarantine and hundreds in the community. In fact, short of pursuing elimination, there is no reason now to allow international arrivals now.

Logic went out the window a long time ago.

Same! We need to virus to circulate and become endemic within Australia to make the risk of incursion irrelevant; then borders will reopen.
