Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

That’s fine by me. We were due to go to Noosa end next month but that looks dead now. Haven’t been to QLD for years and it was only really the offer of a luxury residence for free that temped us. Personally I’m happy to travel overseas instead if they don’t want us and I suspect I’m not alone.
I can’t see myself ever being eager to spend any money on the hillbillies and their economies in QLD or WA.

100% agree with this, especially WA (although they don't need us now, with their GST rebate and their iron ore 😂).

So everyone is getting in a flap about the 12-16 age group. You never know , they could well help achieve 80% rather than hinder  .... I know my nieces in that age group already are keen (2 of them already had their jab), as are their friends. A week or two here or there is probably all that it will mean.

This isn’t the thread to discuss it but the vaccine surge in this group has been incredible and will probably bring in some laggard other family members along for the ride too.

I know an anti vaxxer, with two teenage kids. Articulate, educated, and totally in denial. Has every reason under the sun. The only way any of her ilk will ever be done is if it is made effectively mandatory.

Or she personally experiences covid.

You certainly are not lone, and I have family in QLD. I will be limiting my visits and expenditure significantly In the future.

I also have a relative who believes the mainstream media is intentionally spreading lies and believes all the conspiracy theories you could think of. It doesn't matter what I say, I will not change his mind. It's a shame because he's a really nice person and otherwise intelligent. I'm not really sure what happened.

The more the issue becomes about force the more it will make people push back, the more it seems to be around an agenda.

Understanding, time and seeing that all their friends who took the Vaxx arent having any negative impact from it is what will eat away at hesitancy. Not fear and coercion.

imo.

It's distressing, isn't it @Mattg. I've previously posted about my dear friend of over 25 years, a nurse to boot, who is also going down this pathway. She lives in country NSW surrounding the ACT, and is furious that NSW is excluding the non-vaccinated from most activities, including international travel. She told me she is resigned to never travelling overseas again, which seems a high price to pay for a refusal to vaccinate as one of her children is married to a Canadian and plans to re-locate there once things settle. So unexpected, and so sad.

I think you can believe the mainstream media is intentionally spreading lies but still believe in COVID vaccines.

I believe strongly in vaccines, but when I see the protestors, et al yell abuse at journalists, I feel no remorse. I honestly believe that media sensationalise everything for their own benefit. They also push governments into implementing stronger restrictions knowing they will still have work and do so without regard for others in the community. I honestly think that if we had a more balanced media we would be travelling overseas by now.

Trying to work with states on opening up is 'like herding cats'

The Acting Prime Minister is warning that it may be easier to travel to Paris than to Perth if states remain hesitant to open their borders.

Under the government's four-stage roadmap out of the crisis, vaccinated people will be subject to fewer restrictions once 70 and then 80 per cent of Australians over 16 are double-dosed.

National Cabinet has agreed to that plan, but WA and Queensland have both raised concerns about easing restrictions.

Barnaby Joyce said trying to secure an acceptable way forward was like "herding cats".

"Ultimately, these states have to open up otherwise they're going to become their own country. Are they going to have their own air force? And [their] own minister for foreign affairs? It won't work, they're states, not a country."

Qld is being full on marketing to South Aussies now.
Yet if the South Australians want to return home the SA Govt is putting ludicrous restrictions on if the have been in the LGAs of Greater Brisbane or Logan with at least 3 covid tests on return.
But you can fly JQ to MCY and not worry -just doing my bit for Sunny Coast tourism!

The Brisbane restrictions end on Saturday.

That will stop this week I think.
