Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

So not only I can't sit down in a coffee shop, it seems I can't pull in to the lounge before my onward flight :(
The additional restrictions are just bizarre. I kind of wonder who thought they were (a) reasonable in the context of "no quarantine international travel" and (b) enforceable.

I am surprised now VIC has fewer requirements for international arrivals than NSW, I wonder whether VIC will align their approach with NSW soon.

I hope its the other way around. A test pre-departure, plus a test on arrival for fully jabbed people should be enough.

We need to shift to a system where we are looking at hospital admissions and deaths. Logging case numbers and then using this as a metric is not really useful once you have over 90% of the population fully jabbed.

You can argue it was never really useful but co-opted in the starring role of Australian political theatre.

The exemptions went to BA (15), QF (2) and SQ (?) - but only in the Northern Summer (our winter) - because a flight from London will effectively get here two hours earlier (they are +1 and we are +10, compared to +0 and +11 in our summer).

Importantly, they are scheduled to arrive prior to curfew. This is not an option for aircraft scheduled to arrive after 0600 to land early.

This definitely did not apply to SQ221 today. They either were classified as freight, got a one off exemption, or just paid the fine.
The exemption would apply when daylight saving is in effect. There is no daylight saving here during the northern summer or the reverse. But overlap in autumn/spring as in both places DS lasts 6 months. We have definitely landed on BA 15 prior to 5am in all seasons apart from our summer.

Today, the TGA determined that Covaxin (manufactured by Bharat Biotech, India) and BBIBP-CorV(manufactured by Sinopharm, China) vaccines would be 'recognised' for the purpose of establishing a traveller's vaccination status.

Hey, @ayushamity - I'm not sure, but does this development mean that your fiancé can actually exit hotel quarantine sooner than you had envisaged? i.e. as soon as this is formalised into the system?

Dom was grilled about it at the presser today. I.e. hop off the plane and grab a beer at the pub. He said he's going to look into it and clarify... suspect it will be revised

He seemed a bit shocked, I guess someone at NSW health has taken the list of high risk settings at little bit too far.

Yes - he looked a little annoyed by this one; that it wasn't meant to be that way.

From how Dr. Chant responded to a follow up question on high risk settings, it sounds like it might land more around restrictions to aged care, hospitals and the like, rather than hospitality venues, schools, etc., with the caveat that anyone who is symptomatic should not be doing anything but getting a test and isolating... but that should largely go without saying these days.

Looking forward to the adjusted guidance coming through.

Cheers,
Matt.

A little bit more movement in Japan. Quarantine dropping to 3 days with a test for business travellers or students and (if my interpretation is correct) they will start allowing new business and student entries (and possibly visas), subject to the host institution managing their behaviour. The cap on arrivals is being raised to 5000 a day as well.

A step closer.

Hospitality OK
High risk such as healthcare remains day 7 test
School looks OK for vaccinated 12+ but day 7 for under 12
Lol- what a chaos!

But- pub, here we come! 😛

Watching first QF1 Darwin to LHR flying over West Siberia oilfields.
Amazing

Not unlike the many QF109s that went before it 😆 - but it is nice knowing it's full of Aussies who didn't need exemptions to fly

Just as well too. It was poor form to drop those extra restrictions within a day of travel commencing - that should have been announced weeks ago.

I'm not happy about the mask mandate being extended - I think that may have been the sacrificial lamb to keep NSW Health happy.

SWMBO is pretty annoyed about school/childcare still being excluded, as it means we can't get back to work as anticipated. Our little guy doesn't have eligibility to get the jab, yet, and even more unlikely he'd be able to complete the program before we get back mid Jan.

Not really they clarified that the restriction on medical "does not include accessing personal medical care, aged or disability care services" so those worried about being able to see a GP or get a test no need to worry.

Most people coming on a holiday wont need to go to a nursing home or prison. The people who cant go to the pub/school until day 7 results are not fully vaccinated so not exactly unfair. You just have to factor in at home school/childcare for a week or return a week before the end of school holidays.

Pretty sure most people were worried about not being able to go to the pub and couldn't care less about their GP...

Or maybe that's just me ;)

The updated rules are sensible - the original ones were not.

What if you work there?
Personal inconvenience aside, I bet there's a few tired ICU nurses who've already booked trips and it's still not widely publicised-no-one in my department had a clue
