Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

On QF420 this morning, nice 9.30 flight Mel-Syd A330 service.

Walked up to gate 23 to be greeted with a huge queue. Walked past and straight into the empty PB lane.. Scanned and walked on in 10 seconds! The PB was calling people over if the line was empty (from what I saw just as I walked through)

Obviously Tony Hancock was no where in Melbourne!

This was the security lane..

And in MEL, much better since they shifted it back to the left hand side away from JQ. Although it was not policed this morning.

Was being policed on Monday (queues were awful).

I don't like that side though...

My driver tends to park towards that end though so it is further for me to walk - I will try to remind him of it next time I am in MEL.

I think it's better there as JQ pax don't end up in the line..

Well slightly harder for them to find There were a couple of people with JQ boarding passes in the priority queue last Wednesday when I went through. I doubt they were WPs. They were faffing around so much I just walked past them and straight through the metal detector.

General whinge about gold bag tags using the premium boarding lane on QF730 this morning.

Perhaps they were in business or perhaps they are not a DYKWIA and dont use the plat coasters? Were you able to see there boarding pass to verify status?

Saw gold FF cards as they were walking past me to 10C. They have their gold drinks coasters on their carry on luggage. That's pretty DYKWIA.

Not really. I've got one of my plat plates on my carry on. Sometimes after a meeting it gathers a lot of paper and I check it in.

nah ... Definitely looks DYKWIA in my honest opinion, but we have
a whole thread on that.

As for PB, maybe some SG simply are not aware they are not actually entitled to user it.

If the above was the case, the FA's need to tell anyone using the wrong lane. My guess is a gold would probably know but ignores it.

I try not to judge for bags that might reasonably be checked in. But I do judge where things like handbags are involved. Anyway, I only mentioned the gold tags as indicators of status level not from any other POV.

So just to throw you off I should start using silver coasters on my carry on when in the PB lane? :p

My old WP tags look gold-ish. I hope the self proclaimed PB police pax don't interrogate me too! That SG may have been J pax.

And for those who think they are DYKWIA, when a member of the cabin crew moves your cabin bag to some storage locker somewhere, it is rather handy that they are able to identify them as mine. I only use the old swing tags though, the coasters are oversized and ugly.

Note that QF has only given me gold coloured bag tags. Yet I have use QF domestic priority boarding quite a lot in the last year. My AA EXP card provided me priority boarding regardless of the colour of my QFF membership paraphernalia that may or may not have been displayed. But I do recognise that my circumstances may not be the same as the passenger mentioned above. Just providing a real situation where something may not be quite what it first appears.

Flipping heck! I've been flying VA a lot for the past 6 months, mainly SYD-TSV but today I flew QF to use a JASA so SYD-BNE-TSV. I went to gate 3 this morning for the delayed QF516 to see a long queue snaking away from the left side. The queue on the right side was about 2/3 as long. I thought they must not be running the DYKWIA lane today and as I got closer I saw the tiny signs - the left lane WAS the WP/J/SG lane! Although I'm pretty certain civilisation had already collapsed and it was a free-for-all by this time.
Hard to believe I'd miss flying VA! I guess a 737 is easier to board with one queue than a 767 but it's no real excuse.

Get it right, QF!

It was observed that they were sat in row 10.

Then I agree, it should have been policed at the gate.

You only need to turn around ineligible customers once to the back of the queue for it to sink in.

The size of the signage however I think is the main problem for occasional flyers.

Premium Boarding is not a SG benefit domestically.

The AA signs are much smaller - the QF signs are my height. Do you mean the ones at the start of the ribbon?

Yes. As the portable full height pull up banners are frequently on the wrong side anyway.
The actual signs are about A5 size and in micro print.
