Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

Priority security in MEL was policed by no less then 2 agents this morning and it worked very well! They even checked the date on the QFF cards (the guy in front of me tried to sneak in with an expired WP card).
If they could only make PB work so well...

How can this be policed?

Travelling with carry on only, check in at the lounge, travelling Business Class, no status, entitled to use priority lane.
Do they just ask and you have to give the correct answer

Double PB fail yesterday for me.

At ADL, QF723, no sign was out and no lanes, just single file. When I got to the scanner I asked Andrew the FA why no PB. He said "because there's only one person at the scanner. Okey dokey?". I said that it wasn't okey dokey. And it isn't.

Then at ASP the other PB failed with my bag off last. It came out with some strollers which I assume should also have been out first for the poor parents who needed them.

I have (and I'm sure you have too) done PB with only one person at the scanner before.
I hope you gave Andrew a piece of your okey dokey

You must show BP or WP/P1 card.
If you don't have BP or QFF card then need to check in before joining the priority lane.

Show BP (whether card or mobile version), or Plat/P1/CL card. That being said, I've never had anything other than my BP to show them at scanner (as I refuse to use the mobile version).

VA manages to do one person PB on each and every flight*

# that's a made up date, but it happened once

On the weekend in CNS, the boarding was swift as the QF ground staff asked Gold members also to use priority lane.

I have to say I still can never comprehend how this thread is 325 pages long and how anyone can really care less about PB. Isn't the whole point of it to not wait in the line waiting for the BP scan? Inevitably I find (especially on 737s) if you stroll down slowly from the lounge, go through PB and then enter the air bridge you are still stuck in a long and slow line waiting to get on the plane. So what the hell is the point? Life's short. Worry about something of consequence.

Depends. That is rarely my experience.

Everyone here is entitled to their opinion. Yours just happens to be different to most others in this thread.

You have a valid point there. I never understood the big fuss about PB. Personally, I prefer to wait in the lounge until final call as I find it more comfortable then sitting in the plane and by the time I arrive to the gate there is no more queue anyway.
Having said that, I do understand that some elite pax prefer to board as soon as possible and since QF offers this service, it should do it properly. It looks like VA is doing PB well and QF also on Int flights so there is no reason why they can't do it properly on Dom.

I like PB because there is a greater chance that there will be suitable overhead locker space available.

Too often the lockers are filled with pax taking on more than what is allowed so if you board late.....

Precisely...

I flew three sectors last week and PB was working well for me at MEL, SYD, BNE... times of day were 9.50am Sat, 8am Sun and 7pm Tues.

On the whole I find it better than this time six months ago... but can still be hit and miss... mainly it fails when there is a full flight of people waiting to board and for some unknown reason they only have ONE poor FA on the gate scanning people... and then TWO people greeting on the aircraft... bass-ackwards IMO, esp on a single ailse 737.... having said that... they mostly DO observe the PB queue and will pause the regular queue to bring through a few PB's.

There seems to be a great improvement in the self policing of the general boarding. I rarely seem to be behind a NB in 23B.

What still causes problems is not being able to get to the single FA (without some assertiveness) to scan on as no one in the general line is willing to let you cross over if the FA does not look up.

QF634 MEL/BNE 8/5 7:05pm

Well it was meant to leave then, but was about 6pm when it was announced that it would be departing at 7:55 due to ATC. Oh well, another 45 mins in the Business Lounge.

By the time boarding was called and the droves of us walked to Gate 9, there wasn't anybody in the normal line

QF 420 MEL SYD lane worked, but flight attendant didn't, 767. Basically had to push in to get on aircraft. As much as don't want to Qantas bash as I have always had great in flight service, it is just getting beyond a joke, I would say QF has been a 50% fail and Virgin a 1% fail on priority boarding. If you can't get it right get rid of it.

I think QF should rethink PB.

Its no point PBoarding only to queue up at the aircraft door.

I would rather sit in QPub a bit longer for Dom flights. Another reason is because Im an aisle pax so it better for me to board later to avoid having to get up for a window pax

My partial solution.

At the gate: non premium pax who have carryon that meets the actual criteria can go to gate counter and demonstrate it fits into mock cradle and get a special red card that allows early boarding on the non priority lane. Those that have oversized carry do not get early boarding.

priority pax eligible for priority boarding should be given a separate brightly coloured card in addition to boarding pass which is only redeemable at the PB check

This may reduce non priority pax from using priority lane.
