Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

It is amazing how different people's patterns are. My travel expense this year on flights is around $39K and based on international flights I would have just about requalified as EXP (probably 130K EQP) - which is a shock to me - I thought I wasn't close. However by comparison I hit 2500 SCs - double the level to hit WP on QFF.

I'd stay with AA simongr.

QF have also a 'no-mans-land' between 2400SC (PG) to 3600SC (WP1).

Status credits loyalty bonus is also limited to *4 yearly and changing to every 500SC's earned with 8k QFF Points.
Partner Gold at 2400SC
After 2400, it's another 1200SC's to get WP1, that's a long way away.
If l were doing mainly domestic routings, I'd personally get QF WP at 1200SC and then switch to VA for VA Plat.

1. Age. 2. Noise, particularly when not flying up the front. 3. Comfort & space (again, when not up the front). 4. IMHO worse during turbulence than a 737. 5. In any case I'd always rather be in a newer aircraft, and would choose a newer AA B738 anyday over the old MD-80s.

Wi-fi in flight makes no difference to me - I'm online enough without being connected at 30,000 feet!

Thanks - we will be flying First, but I do hate turbulence. I might go and have a look if there are any 737 options. :)

Had a different experience with aa priority boarding in MCO on Thursday-the call went out that first class passengers would be boarding first and a typical QF scrum formed. Some because MCO has a lot of non US pax but the others were in for a surprise.A GA went down the line politely telling those with no priority to kindly sit down.the fellow behind was told he would be boarding in the next group. In typical US fashion at the top of his voice proclaimed but I am EXP,first I miss out on MY upgrade and now I cant board first. The GA once again in a polite fashion said,Sir there are 30 EXPs on this flight so kindly wait until you are called.
So there you have it as it had to be in the US-money trumps status.
PS-if on the MD80 and you have large carryons select the DEF side seats-the bins on that side are larger than on the ABC side. And yes I prefer the AA 737s to the MD80.

Yes indeed! Not a huge amount of depth to the AB bins. To date I have always been lucky with AA boarding, and hopefully that will continue in about an hour!

Just had a few moans and whinges from a very long line of non status pax as I walked to the front of the priority check in queue and was immediately called to the check in counter.

Getting OT here, but I don't mind the MD's. Normally in row 3, but when down the back I appreciate the 2 seat side.

As for carry on, my rollaboard goes wheels in on the DEF side no matter which side I am seated. One thing to note with both the AA 738's and the MD's is the OHSB's above row 3 are not as deep as those further back and my 105cm rollaboard won't fit wheels in (this is due to curvature of the fuselage) - I need to put it back towards row 4.

In general AA priority boarding works, except for MIA¹ where is can be a real scrum and some agents seem to have given up.

¹ Many ex MIA PAX don't (or pretend they don't) understand the English announcements and just pushforward as soon as they see people boardin.

LOL I do try! I did think, albeit briefly, of joining the main queue!! :p

Priority boarding was a little unusual.

Call 1: First Class Only
Call 2: First Class and Military with a short speech of thanks to the US military folk
Call 3: AA Exec Platinum and Platinum
Call 4: AA Gold and oneworld Pass (sic)
Call 5: Priority Aaccess.

I boarded at call 4, but I have no idea what oneworld "pass" is. My previous experiences have usually seen OWE's called with the AA EXP and P's.

Completely off topic I am loving the onboard wifi in the US.

When at gate I board at 1st PA other wise wait in PB lane and am next.

I did have a pleasant surprise this year rocking up to PB lane and PAX in next lane said "your next" before the ticketing person finished pax - so either a frequent flyer or saw I am DYKWIA :lol: (I wish)

On aircrafts - Not into MD80 prefer newer - don't need wi fi get enough of it waiting for flight.

AA are normally very good at recognising OneWorld Emerald as equiv to AA EXP and I would be very surprised if a QF Platinum was told to wait until after AA EXP and Platinum to board. If I was QF WP status I would join the priority queue when AA EXP was called. With the possible exception of military at call 2, AA does seem to get it pretty much right.

My experience too, so it was a little unusual today. The staff at the gate were in a bit of a tizz though, full flight, three wheelchairs, and a little bit late boarding.

Try LGA to MIA at the beginning of Fall-September.One such flight I counted 14 wheelchairs.

Yes I've mentioned this before and upset some of the diehards, but I think the military thing over there is over the top. Our boys and girls just get on with it.

the yanks get an automatic upgrade deal with AA? The front is always full.

Having said that on the way down to the Carribean i did sit next to an F16 Pilot who was full of interesting stories.

Everyone I know loves the wifi as their entertainment otherwise is substandard.

safe travels.

Not an automatic upgrade but there is a system to donate EVIPs for the military. There have been uniformed servicemen and women on all my AA flights this trip and none were in F.Neither were uniformed AA pilots.

I love the wifi too as long as I'm not flying on a 757, stick within 100 miles of the US Mainland or below 10,000 feet as it drops out after that. :(

Priority boarding in BNE this morning was WP, SG, OWE and OWS. All called over PA system.

Edit. My flight did have an AA code share. Maybe that makes a difference.
