Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

Had no dramas on QF 747 yesterday with the priority boarding, seemed to work smoothly enough with no signage just a the call via the PA.

IIRC SYD doesn't start until the [-]28th[/-] 5 Dec.

That is so annoying as my first flight in QF in a few weeks is on 1/2 Dec :( Ah well at least my OpUp is guaranteed ;)

P.s. Thanks for using the strikethrough tags as I have never known how to use them :)

Domestic Priority Boarding has had a lot of commentary and feedback on AFF for some time now and I know you are all keen for an update.

As you know we started a trial in August in Sydney and I can now happily say that we will be enhancing our Domestic Priority Boarding by providing a dedicated premium boarding lane for Platinum, Platinum One, and oneworld Emerald members and Business class customers at major Cityflyer ports in the next few weeks.
I know that you are all hot on this so I have included exact implementation dates but they could change by a few days.

- Brisbane (28 November 2011)

No sign of it in BNE this morning. I checked gates 16-21 and there were no priority boarding signs. I got to my gate early to see if anything was different. Two queues had already formed before boarding was called. The FAs started boarding before any PA announcement was made. When the FA was scanning my boarding pass she did call the desk to tell them they had started boarding, this was after about 5 people had already boarded. Typical chaotic Qantas boarding. I assume a boarding call was made when I was walking down the aerobridge.

Granted Red Roo said it "could change by a few days". So maybe next week?

It started in Brisbane this afternoon - I was lucky enough to be on the first flight that had "Premium Boarding" - QF537, BNE-SYD, departing at 14:25, gate 22.

(incidentally, that's Drew Mitchell on crutches just to the right of the sign - he was on the flight)

It all seemed to work quite well. I was there when boarding started, and hung around for a while to watch the process.

No doubt one excellent idea was to place a "bouncer" at the front of the divided queue to divert passengers not entitled to use the Premium Boarding line into the general boarding line instead. Bit hard to see in the photo below, but the divider came out from the headphones box seen in shot. The general boarding queue was on the other side of the headphones box.

I had a quick chat to him as I went past, and he was the one who mentioned this was the first flight to use it in Brisbane.

Well done, QF, I was quite impressed! :)

It was a free for all on QF82 ex ADL yesterday, no announcments made other than a general commence boarding to everyone.

I read this post too quickly the first time and read it as "flying to ADL on a QF 747" and thought "what the..? Why are they flying a 747 to ADL?" - oops!

Although there is a flight QF767 BNE/PER which is actually operated by a B767.

This was the zoo in SYD this morning. Bad enough as a plat, but I was actually flying J whichever it hurt even more.

Looks like a case of "unlucky for some 13".

Int'l flight number too - ooh aah.

I wonder if the lack of PB at ADL is an airport wide thing given that DJ do not offer it at ADL either or maybe (and this is the cynical me) given that there is no competition for it at ADL then QF do not need to offer it.

Didn't the VA rep say it had something to do with it being a shared terminal?

Virgin at least do a pre board in ADL something that does work.

So how do we go with OWE travelling with not-OWE but not seated together - chance their luck in the Premium Boarding lane?

As per other benefits(such as check in, lounge acces etc), I would think that you would be able to board together.

Only if they're prepared to chance the embarrassment of being turned away in front of a planeload of people queued up in the general boarding line.......
