I put in a request for my flights to SIN in July and August on 51/52, also had a discounted Y ticket. From all the reply's and I'm sure all the other requests people have put in, I really don't understand why Qantas doesn't let people request upgrades in discount Y considering people are prepared to burn their points and it's a lottery.

Because they want you to pay for a more expensive ticket.

You do, with points.

I'm sure they would rather have more money from you, and points. If you could always upgrade the cheapest ticket, there would be little incentive for you to buy a full economy fare.

That's the thing, you don't always get the upgrade it's essentially a lottery, especially so if you're not a platinum or higher member like my self.

I guess I should have said "if you could always put in an upgrade request for the cheapest ticket". I know its a lottery but Im sure QF would much rather you spend more in order to put in the request.

Has anyone who is not status received an upgrade from the recent upgrade window? I'm trying to work out whether I should give up and use my points for something else.

Is this still available?

ive got a friend who is SG and is flying on a sale fare to USA late July, would be good if he could upgrade

Sorry Spentan it's over just be vigilant for when the next offer is released.

How often do these deals come around? I have flights in September/December I'd be keen to upgrade (O)

Maybe once or twice a year, I have received one for December in the past. They are targetted, just cross your fingers and see what happens.

IME they're offered around the peak holiday periods (since relatively empty J and full Y cabins), they are targetted emails but anybody can take up the offer if they're aware of it. Previously I've upgraded flights that were well outside the immediate holiday period after hearing about the emails being sent out here.

I think what I am starting to learn about QF FF points is that if you CAN use them, do so, before they get 'enhanced'.

I don't fly regularly & have 0 status credits & around 50k ff points. I guess I'll have to wait for them to do deal again otherwise maybe look at cashing points in for something else

Quyestion:

I was able to request an upgrade for my PER-SIN flights through this manner. Currently 30 points shy of gold status..will be gold for the return flight. Is it worth a quick status run before this flight? Will those 30 points make it easier to get an available upgrade? Stats showing J9 C9 D9 I9 U3.. so good chance of an upgrade still.
