Q Bag Tag - do you Carry on?

Frankly I think there is a lot of reverse snobbery going on here. It's like doctors who become specialists and then demand they be called Mr !!
I have two silver, two gold and by September will, have two plat tags. I find them a great idea, I have my silver tags on luggage as well as my gold.
I have a decent size ( but legal) carry on which has my gold tag ( and my very stylish AFF tag) attached.
Why? Because if I have to for some reason flick it to checked luggage I am hopeful of having it arrive at the other end with a higher degree of certainty.
Not much value on international I know.
But at least QF persons seem to recognise them.

But here's the conundrum.
Mrs GPH ( who achieved silver before me) was quite chuffed to receive her fancy QF tags. Only to have one stolen ( or accidentally ripped off in transit) in the first few weeks of use.
So I don't rely exclusively on the tags as the tag may arrive , but not the bag ..

In any event I think for the DYKWIA reverse snobs we should adopt our own even more exclusive tags that only fellow AFF's recognise and for that reason need to be attached to cabin baggage.

Re: First time through the frosted black doors

Oh i see it on the train on the way to work! i just smile to myself!
OK, a discrete (as put earlier):

I have mine hanging from the mirror in my car - it sends the right message I think!! :p
Back in the 90's I'd put my leather QF [Old] Gold luggage tag on my complimentary Silver QFF Flight bag - and be envious of those who would also sport a multi star Golden Wing tag.

These days my business card is inserted into a desginated slot somewhere on my sampsonite and that danged tag is no longer present to get in my way ... :D

Re: First time through the frosted black doors

I no longer have my VA Gold tags on any of my bags... Delta took care of that for me.

They are somewhere between MCO and LAS... probably in the hold of a coughpy old 767...

Re: First time through the frosted black doors

Aside from that, I get 2 x 7kg on Qantas domestic Jet flights - why would I bother checking rollaboards - that's more than I take ATW.

Forgot to mention, is there a secret you have for packing light? I've seen the whole "roll everything into a sausage to save space" thing which works wonders but it looks like you know something the rest of us don't...

Re: First time through the frosted black doors

I frequently see QF staff (off duty) with the red Q bag tags, though usually in the most unusual places (as opposed to on their checked bags when they're travelling)... had to look twice when I saw one of the QF lounge staff heading home, carrying a handbag, with the red QF tag attached... I could understand if it were a high status tag that had "fallen of the back of a truck", but why would you put a tag 1) on your handbag, and 2) leave it on said handbag when you're only going to work??? Absolute fashion disaster haha!

I mostly travel internationally with QF, so I have never bothered putting the tags on my checked bags (my VA SG tag gets worn well enough without needing to damage another tag). I now have my QF WP and VA SG tags on my carry-on, as it basically says "this is not your bag" when it's in the overhead (it looks like any other standard black bag), and also so that if I happen to lose the bag when travelling with either airline, they can easily see my FF information and arrange to have the bag returned much faster. :)

Re: First time through the frosted black doors

Do QF supply standard bag tags for plat? Or do you only get the RFID ones like gold?

Re: First time through the frosted black doors

I have six SG Q-Tags  I put them on all bags that see use as check in, that does include my regular carry on bag, I hate having to find a Q-Tag or print a paper tag if my bag requires check in.

Q Tags are the eiptome of QF "enhancements" IMO..

Agree totally, and the whole process is dehumanizing and takes longer than the old personal style check in often, love flying QF in ports that don't have the machines. Conversely, I like using the self check outs at Supermarkets!

!!!
I don't know how you do it on a long haul flight packing so light...

See this thread - it has good information on the "what" to take.

You may find it quite therapeutic:

Re: First time through the frosted black doors

This reminded me of something I meant to comment on the other week, but forgot about, and that is the people who use their bag tags on their cabin luggage. Seriously? I know that they may be excited about their Q tags, but who puts a bag/status tag on cabin luggage? It's just a case of DYKWIA, when the answer is: "no one important"...

I have also wondered this... they are for checked luggage, why on earth would you put them on a small backpack you take on board every flight?

Re: First time through the frosted black doors

To get back on topic :p I realise I'll never have to use the Q tag so they now reside in the top draw of my desk!

Re: First time through the frosted black doors

My wife finds them handy because she actually checks in luggage for any overnight domestic trip, whereas I don't bother for anything under 2 weeks regardless of destination. No - I tell a lie - I checked my carry-on bag last week in Tel Aviv because I stupidly bought some Dead Sea mud as a gift. But judging by the state of the bag when I picked it up in Sydney, any Q-tag would not have survived unless I detached and packed it. So I think the "just using them as a bag tag" is pointless for O/S travel and a definite DYKWIA for domestic carry-on.

Re: First time through the frosted black doors

Ironically, the one time I've seen a CL Q tag attached to carry on luggage was aboard a DJ flight SYD-BNE! Must have been trying out his status match ;).

Re: First time through the frosted black doors

I have a Q tag attached to my carry on, which I avoid checking in at all costs.

I'm comfortable with it.

Re: First time through the frosted black doors

All my travel is carry on only, even international, and that does not leave my person so I don't need a tag for identification purposes. The only tag I have on my carry on is the blue AFF tag so that other AFF's can identify and hopefully enjoy the company of a fellow traveller.

Re: First time through the frosted black doors

Why do you if someone has a Q tag on their hand luggage or not? What aout people who wear rotary club badges? Old school ties? Commemorative t-shirts from marathons they have run?

I thought I had qtags on my rollaboard but I think it is just on my suit bag which is occasionally checked and my duffle which is always checked.
