Qantas 737 Refurbishment tracker

Looks like XZB has gone into refurbishment in BNE after arriving on Sunday.

As an aside, I caught XZB on flight from SYD to MEL on Friday and it appears that the air system was not working as our cruising altitude was limited to 25,000 ft and the air conditioning started only after take off.

Didn't see it mentioned above but it looks like VZS snuck into maintenance - it hasn't moved since Thursday and "confirmed" by Qantas Source.

If true and both VZS and XZB are in maintenance, that would leave four (VXM, VZM, VZO and XZC) non-refurbs left on the Australian register. Should be all done by Christmas with any luck - unless they decide not to refurb the last two!

VZS was back in service yesterday (19th October) after refurbishment.

Qantas Source reports VH-VZS out of BNE and converted to 16/162. However EF seatmaps are still showing 29 rows. The 6 days is also too short for a normal BNE check+refurb, so I am thinking it is check only and will come to SYD in the next month for refurb (we saw the same with VZM in late September)

VH-VZR out of SYD this morning and confirmed as 30 rows by EF, which makes #61 (or #62 if I am wrong about VZS)
VH-VZO appears into SYD last night.

Should definitely be done by Xmas, indeed could be done by end of November, depending how they schedule with the NZ aircraft - my expectations are VZO, VZM, VZS (8 days SYD), XZC, VXM (18-20 days BNE, or split 8/8)

So my current summary - will update Wiki once some confirmation on VZS

Summary of refurb
61 of 67 91%-- Seatcount increased - VXA-VXL,VXN-VXU,VYA-VYL,VZA-VZE,VZL,VZP,VZR,VZT-VZZ,XZA,XZD-XZP
66 of 67 99% -- With SIFE/ Q-Streaming (without is VXM)
29 of 29 100% - Seatback IFE - VZL-VZZ,XZA-XZP
37 of 38 98% - Q-Streaming - VXA-VXL,VXN-VXU,VYA-VYL,VZA-VZE

3 of 8 37℅-- Seatcount increased - ZQD-ZQF

Under refurb, check or paint
VH-VZO SYD - In 19/10/16 Out 27/10/16
VH-XZB BNE - In 15/10/16 Out 2/11/16 (possibly earlier if check only)
ZK-ZQC BNE - In 9/10/16 Out 5/11/16

The QF website has updated the 738 seatmaps - showing VZR and ZQC (along with the XZD error from last seat map) as refurbished and VZS as unrefurbed.

ZK-ZQC out last night and showing as 30 Rows, so that makes 4 of 8 for the NZ aircraft.

Popped out after 14 days unlike the others which took 4 weeks so presumably a check had already been done.
Swapped with ZK-ZQB which I am guessing will also be an approx 14-day refurb.

VH-VXM hasn't flown since arriving in SYD on eve of 24/10 so possible refurb, although not a straight swap as VZO probably not out until Thu.
(the earlier SYD QStreaming fitouts were typically 12-14 days, versus 8 days for the later SIFE models)

Come on VXM - last man standing :)

Has anyone commented on the hideous version of the flying kangaroo being painted on the 737 tails now?

So the photo is a publicity mock up and they just used the registration of a 737. I see.

Yes VH-VYC is in 2007 Roo livery, and currently operating so hasn't been repainted.

There are still 2 333s and 10 737s in the pre-2007 livery, so expect these aircraft will be the first to get the even newer livery.

VH-VZO is now back in service, assumed its refurbished. 62/67 completed. VH-VXM remain in Sydney M still.

EF shows 30 rows.

Also appears VZM entered SYD last night, leaving only VZS and XZC operating.

Would expect VZS to follow VXM/VZM into SYD and XZC to follow XZB into BNE

Sadly,
VH-VXM popped out of SYD today after only 6 days.
Still showing as 29rows so presumably no QStreaming either - so the wait continues.

Wasn't there something at the last QF results about a 737 leaving the fleet? It makes absolutely no sense why they haven't done VXM so can we put two and two together that it is on its way out?

Don't recall that and the initial refurb announcements talked about 67 737s (the AU fleet).

Indeed going back and checking the 2106 Investor Pres, Supp, Page 16 shows very few movements in FY2017 (ending 30 June 2017)
Net addition of 6 aircraft expected in FY17

• 3 x F100 deliveries to Network Aviation

• 2 x A321 deliveries (operating leases) to Jetstar Domestic

• 1 x B734F delivery to Freight
Which would suggest 6 adds and 0 deletes (which must not have happened often)

FY18 will be quite different as the 787s start arriving, 747s start departing, and the 320/321neos start arriving

Also I think most of the leased 737s are now owned - QF moved 29 aircraft from Op lease to owned during FY16

The memory was sort of right but the timing way off....it was their results presentation of August 2014 when they announced the two A330s that were going to the RAAF. Could it be something to do with that now??

From coverage at the time...

"Last week, Qantas announced some changes to its fleet, as it has pushed back its purchase options for Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft for 12 months and delayed delivery of Airbus A320neos for Jetstar by four years. The airline will also not renew the leases on two of its Qantas Domestic Airbus A330s, and sell two Boeing 737-800 planes. Qantas is continuing with its plan to update its fleet while strategically consolidating it over the next few years."

I remember thinking that the time that two was a very strange number to sell and made little sense...
