The Qantas timetable lately has become just a rough guide to what might fly on any given day. QF11 was set to take off four hours late but is now cancelled. Not sure why but QF11 on Nov 3 (and corresponding QF12 on Nov 3) is now showing as a 789 with all classes 0'd out.
Does QF now need a day off flying SYD - LAX with the current frames?
Starting JNB has made the situation worse.
One offs this far out more likely to be charter I'd think. Not sure why but QF11 on Nov 3 (and corresponding QF12 on Nov 3) is now showing as a 789 with all classes 0'd out.
I read somewhere that making JNB an A380 service instead of B787 would add 130,000 seats per year - is there really that much demand for JNB and beyond? This is the bit that I can't understand. They originally announced this service for earlier this year but that was cancelled and I flew on a B787.
They've had many problems with A380 availability and at best one new frame available, so how could they initiate JNB without making the situation worse?
I think there is huge demand, otherwise Qf wouldn't be putting the A380 on this route....Qf has a monopoly on this route. When we flew to / from Jnb in August on the 787, it was completely full in every cabin!I read somewhere that making JNB an A380 service instead of B787 would add 130,000 seats per year - is there really that much demand for JNB and beyond?
Hope it's ok with @evanb to plug this but I really enjoyed this recent article on QF's capacity into JNB:I think there is huge demand, otherwise Qf wouldn't be putting the A380 on this route....Qf has a monopoly on this route. When we flew to / fom Jnb in August on the 787, it was completely full in every cabin!
The recent Qf codeshare agreement with Air Link suggest a lot of traffic to Jnb and beyond.
14NOV scheduled to operate as QF331 charter SYDLHRQF1 on 14NOV is also cut. sounds like a projected issue with a 380 shell availability issue. Perhaps delay in maintenance works or something in AUH? Yeah, it's not good.
OQB operated the QF11/2OCT that did finally take off around 2050. oyyyyyy
FFS! QFi is a rolling debacle at the moment!Another overnight delay to QF11, rescheduled to depart in the early evening of Tuesday 8 October 2024.
See the Qantas Delays/Cancellations thread for more.
I think we can all forsee this coming - they probably needed the 8th frame back to reliably do their current schedule. But they probably weighed up the situation with potential delays and issues against delaying JNB.FFS! QFi is a rolling debacle at the moment!
I think we all could foresee this happening - and it has. Now what tiny bit of reputation that Qantas did have left is rapidly going as well - just when we all thought that they were trying to restore their reputation.I think we can all forsee this coming - they probably needed the 8th frame back to reliably do their current schedule. But they probably weighed up the situation with potential delays and issues against delaying JNB.
AFFer, @Bundy Bear , is on this flight. He posted on FB that Qf was sending him to a hotel for the night.
Hardly.tiny bit of reputation that Qantas did have left is r
Actual question, has QF ran a fleet in the past with a similar level of fleet age? They have also wetleased finnair for SIN and BKKHardly.
QF has operated like this internationally for 20+ years. They have a higher cost operation and are forced to stretch the fleet thin to make money..
If they had an 8th A380 back from AUH it would be scheduled.
Flying a 789 to Cyprus and back probably also doesn't help matters from a scheduling flexibility point, but leave the whys to the other thread.
The oldest 332 is 22, youngest 12, oldest 380 is 16, youngest 12 and that's with the Covid downtime. All the 787s are under 7.Actual question, has QF ran a fleet in the past with a similar level of fleet age? They have also wetleased finnair for SIN and BKK
The narrow body mainland domestic fleet is probably the oldest it has been (oldest 738 22, but youngest) but that's just a function of the lump of deliveries post Ansetts collapse, and that's going to change pretty quickly as 321XLRs start arriving in 2025
