Qantas Airways Ltd. is revamping business-class services

He seems very Asian food-oriented, perhaps he should work for CX  although they might be a little smarter than QF.

If Qantas could persuade DJ to take Neil Perry when they attack the business market it may help QF keep hold of it's FF's. :!:

While there are some distict Asian influences in his style, his product isn't really Asian food (outside some forays into Asian food proper)

What is "asian" food, IMHO its one of the reason I enjoy travelling so much in Asia, the variety of cuisine is just huge. Neil Perry draws on Asia for some ideas but he is not like David Thomson, who is definitely the Thai master, not many Australian Chefs have been asked by a country to teach its people about the food they are famous for!

I guess, obviously NPPP’s aren’t and not everything we see is, but from a recent article in the magazine I read and how I’ve seen him do things on TV, he seems to be heading that direction. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be Asian-influences in Australian food, but I’d think Qantas should be focusing on more uniquely Australian inspired dishes.

I’m not sure if that means bugs, kangaroo and pavlova (no matter where that was stolen from), but with an ad campaign of "I still call Australia home", you’d think there’d be a bigger Australian focus, even in the kitchens, and I’m not sure there is yet, personally. That is of course, disregarding the NPPP’s.

Have my first J trip for about 15 years booked for January (per-syd-wlg), so these improvements sound pretty good to me, if they come online by then!

Interesting, it looks like the new business class is finally coming out.

Qantas to launch all-new domestic business class next week - News - Australian Business Traveller

Not a lot of info about what they're actually doing, but the announcement's next week so it shouldn't take long for more details to come out.

+1 vote for beef pies in the Qantas Club. I always get so frustrated by the fact that there's just a smattering of salady and sandwich-paste type things available. Bring on the savoury baked goods!

The picture caption says Qantas is "redying" its upgrade. I hope this doesn't mean that the only thing to change will be the colour!!

The QC's have had hot food at dinner time for quite some time, but it's like feeding time at the zoo (or vultures circling). It always amused me when they were brought out. It was like a ritual. The heating plate at the buffet is turned on and cleared, people get curious, and the circling begins in anticipation for the arrival of the nuked frozen party pies. When they do arrive, they're gone within 30 seconds, with most punters stacking their plate up, and only 5-6 people actually getting any. They await the second (and final) plate, and it's similar to the first plate.
Hadn't been able to get near the party pies for a long time but scored 3 out of 3 during October-MEL twice and SYD T2 once. This last sunday in MEL was quite strange-the old pies just sat there and i was able to make 3 trips back to the one tray of pies!:lol::cool:
Now i also noticed this bit of pastry with green stuff inside-immediately thought this must be NP's new improved party pie so left it alone.;)

Don't take the party pies away, please .... They're the only reason I bother going into the SYD T2 QP on Friday evenings (well, the dim sims aren't too bad either). It's not a J lounge, so they might survive :)

I'm another one of the view that a Neil Perry influence may not necessarily be a good thing - at least for my simple tastes.

I had the hot breakfast at MEL Domestic J lounge again on Saturday.

Egg, Bacon, Sauteed spinach and Mini Hash browns.

Like the week before, this was all removed at 8:45am.

Too bad you can't get a "good 'ol Aussie beef pie" in the QF F Lounges.

Then again, I think that might be a good thing. :)

Back when he was flying at his highest (1980s?) it was reported that John Elliott had 4 'n' 20 pies specially provided for his meals when flying international F on QF (with dead horse of course ;))

I took a punt and tried the 'other' bits of pastry. Dry, and uninspiring.

The actual party pies are cough. The "larger" ones are nice, being the thai chicken and proper beef ones. Those I am quite happy to eat for dinner (and saw one gentleman eating one with a knife and fork which I found amusing :))

Wow, I can't believe all the complaints about hot food availability in the QP. I have had no troubles with availability in the SYD T3 QP. SYD T2 was like a calm oasis, with zero vultures to be seen, so much so that I seriously considered using the T2 QP when flying from T3.

Contrary to popular opinion, there is a world beyond T2 and T3 at Sydney, where hot food is in short supply. CNS don't even have a hot food area, neither do DRW.

/Me Shudders

I have to fly to somewhere called Mackay this month. I presume there is a full J lounge with hot food there.

:p

Really, you don't say. Who would have thought? :p

There is a hot food area in DRW: it's just near the entry and is called Red Rooster! Just buy some chicken and chips there, wander into the QP, put it on a plate, and enjoy the quizzical looks from other people trying to work out where you scored the chicken!
