There is a hot food area in DRW: it's just near the entry and is called Red Rooster! Just buy some chicken and chips there, wander into the QP, put it on a plate, and enjoy the quizzical looks from other people trying to work out where you scored the chicken!

I suppose I could do the same in Cairns with Hungry Jacks ;););) but it would cost.

Now that is almost worth doing in the MEL J lounge. I'd love to see some of the faces if I sat their tucking into KFC from a lounge plate.

While there are some distict Asian influences in his style, his product isn't really Asian food (outside some forays into Asian food proper)

I guess, obviously NPPP’s aren’t and not everything we see is, but from a recent article in the magazine I read and how I’ve seen him do things on TV, he seems to be heading that direction. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be Asian-influences in Australian food, but I’d think Qantas should be focusing on more uniquely Australian inspired dishes.

He certainly does have an overtly asian influence in many of his dishes (including the bland/unpleasant soup I suffered when I was forced onto of instead of my booked CX).

I havent eaten at his new grill in Sydney but Rockpool was very asian inspired when we dined there much to our disappointment...

I have a friend (and that's not a euphemism!) who does this in the MEL QP, but with Hungry Jack's. I suppose HJ's is somewhat of an improvement to the QP sandwich bar (though not in healthiness).

Given the other comments, I have to say that I actually quite like the Rockpool bistro in Melbourne, and can't say I've had a meal I haven't enjoyed there. I also quite like a lot of Marc Newsom's products (Ikepod watches for example), and have very occasionally been partial to Morrissey's clothes. So it's not the talent behind the brand that's problematic, it's the use of the brand itself - some of the 'inspired by' or 'designed by' products skirt by on name association and don't have the underlying quality to back it up (the plastic boxes being the big red flag). On the other hand, other examples are fantastic - for example, almost anything in the F lounges. On balance, I'd rather they didn't need to spout the outsourced brand as much and focus on the quality of the product itself.

Having said that, I'm actually looking forward to these new product enhancements (certainly more so than the changes to the FF program!). :)

I was very disappointed by Rockpool.

Somewhat sadly I'd much rather see QF improve it's business with traditional Australian cuisine - bring on the chicken Parma and chips!!

I often grab noodles from "Wok on Air" and take them into the SYD lounge to consume them with some wine :)

Am I mistaken in thinking KFC is NOT at Melbourne Airport????

I really hope so, please prove me mistaken

Sadly, or happily, I have no idea what fast food is there other than the Maccas on the drive out. (KFC is my generic fast food name I'm afraid!)

I'm one of those folk that gets dropped off and makes a beeline for the lounge as fast as possible. Airports are an occupational hazard for me so i tend to be a little blinkered when going through them. :)

MEL has McDonalds between DJ and Int'l, HJ's in QF and Nandos and subway between QF and Int'l.

The younger members of the Shrek Family have been known to smuggle a happy meal or two into SYD T2 QP, so much better than NPP's ;)

Its been the white of choice in J for a lot of flights for the last two months and IMHO is a shocker, its named after the sound of a whole field of frogs bonking, and has a picture of two frogs on the label, very classy!

2006 Quealy Pobblebonk - Ben And Wine

Perhaps Qantas could improve its business class offering by being honest with its customers, compare the notes above in terms of the naming of the wine with that below:

That was taken from the current inflight wine guide:

Oh look! Pobblebonk on sale in a mixed case for only $7.49 a bottle!

Kathleen Quealy Mornington Red & White Wine Mix only $7.49 a bottle!

They would have to pay me to drink it. I think it's the only wine I have ever sent back :)

On a related note, the 2008 De Bortoli Chardonnay I had on Sunday night in J was quite enjoyable. I think I ended up polishing off the bottle (the other person I shared the cabin with wasn't drinking so the refills were constant) :)

Brilliant. Maybe that's the direction Q should take in the revamp for food for lounges and cabins...

I always do this in BKK. Go to the 4th floor buy a nice Pad Thai to take away and then on to the lounge. A lot of puzzled faces every time :p

The only reason I do like Neil Perry's inspired menus on J and F services is because the competition is pretty boring and sometimes tasteless.

The 734's will be phased out as the next gen 73H's are loaded into the domestic fleet

Still waiting........ End of this month I get a -800 from Darwin to Adelaide, but still a -400 on the Adelaide - Perth.
