Qantas apologises to frequent flyers with status extensions, lounge passes, points & more reward seats

Could someone explain what DragonBABY and I seem to be missing, because we're obviously both missing something here. I was basing it on this:
End date July-December 2022 don’t need to make a booking to retain status
End date January to June 2023 now get comped (previously nothing had to earn BIS) and also get the rollover.

I think it's more the comment 'otherwise its not like Qantas is giving us another year of status'. Because my interpretation is that regardless of how little you've flown status will be extended for those ending Jan - Jun 23.

Given the advance promotion and notice Qantas blasted to the media yesterday, if I were running a newsroom I'd have immediately tasked someone yesterday to track the cost of a basket of flights across the country, Tasman and overseas and then compare them to what they are today.

I'm not running a newsroom, and Qantas better hope no one who is running one thought to do the same, or this could blow up in their face real fast. The $50 coupon going to half of Australia today will be the most tangible and relevant benefit to most Australians and if it's exposed as a gotcha, well... good luck, Alan.

I got screwed, I am 30 June date so missed this offer by one month and now I get nothing. If Qantas was really being generous they would apply it to all members not just a lucky few so this wasn't just a PR STUNT. Typical JOYCE!!!
Welcome to AFF!

If you have a 30 June end date, you just scraped in. You would be eligible for 12 months of comped status, extending you through to 30 June 24, plus you would also benefit from the Status Credit rollover.

also noted there was no "premium reward seats" listed in the announcement..so probably all Y seats, because if there was going to be premium availability, QF marketing would be all over that.

No, anyone with status previously ending NLT end of June 2022 can now get status to thru to 2024!

Those of us with now with July 2023 anniversaries onwards are still on the hamster status wheel.
Yeah I was wondering about this being a July 2023 anniversary myself. The changes they've made for July-Dec literally do nothing for us. Always appreciative of anything extra, but we're legit missing out on this?

Yes, if you hadn’t flown a sector then you get the extension anyway to 2023. But now there’s a whole bunch of peeps who are getting a further extension to 2024 (up to and including June anniversary QFF’s).

Ah, thank you, yes a true 12 months extension for those with membership end date Jan - June 2023, but for those of us end date July-Dec 2022 the extension is the same as before (except no need to take a flight anymore).

My membership year ends in the 2nd half of this year and I've already got my status extension through to next year (from the one where you had to make a booking), so this extension is of little value to me. The only thing I'm getting out of this "apology" is a $50 credit and 30000 points. Not really good enough for me, I'm afraid.

Reading these comments, it is wild to see how variable the effect of these announcements are.

For many people, they are getting nothing extra with the new status support.

For me, I'm fortunate enough to get a whole extra year of status, the ability to cancel a bunch of QF flights and rebook them with competitors to get status there, and the ability to retain WP until 2025 for a mere 600SC due to rollover + PCP. I should go buy a lottery ticket.

So if membership ends in June 2023 you get an extra entire year of status.

If membership ends in July 2023 you get an extra nothing.

who decides these things? They should have made it fair to every member and have everyone’s status extended. Not just half. Who agreed with this?

I am apoplectic having read this latest Qantas puff piece - the carefully crafted media release....
I have already spent money on getting status for next year..... The rest of the rubbish offered is either coloured beads for the restless natives or a plain LIE (more award seats).

I like many, are re-arranging my airline of choice and have joined KrisFlyer. After I have exhausted my QFF points - if any awards ever appear again - I will have nothing to do with this despicable company or the liar who runs it..........

Just received the email from QF. As a WP they're buying my love with 30k FF points.

Edit: Interesting to see they're offering different amounts to different people on the same level. More goodwill for those who feel screwed :(

Just got my e-mail as a Gold with July 2023 anniversary date:
  • 2 x Domestic Business lounge passes
  • $50 voucher
  • 'Confirmation of status extension' (i.e. nothing new)
But the additional 50% of Classic seats is being "progressively released from 12pm today".
