Qantas apologises to frequent flyers with status extensions, lounge passes, points & more reward seats

Just read thru details of the small print t&c's for the $50 voucher.

As far as I'm concerned it's a scam.

Flight promo codes are valid for single adult passenger bookings only. The A$50 discount will be deducted from the base fare, excluding taxes. The flight promo code cannot be used on existing bookings, bookings made via indirect channels (travel agents, etc), in conjunction with Qantas Flight Credit, Classic Flight Reward fares, Points Plus Pay fares, and cannot be added/applied after the ticket has been purchased.

It seems I can't redeem it if travelling with my partner (unless perhaps we both book separately - what a farce!) and in effect can't be used until and unless I first work my way thru my mountain of flight credits.

It's like pretty much everything with Qantas. It comes with so many strings attached that it is almost impossible to get a genuine discount. The real kicker is it must be used for a return fare. So actually only $25 off per flight. With overnight price increases people have pointed to in this thread, most people would have been better off purchasing a flight yesterday. Some gift!

Re the extension of status , I am a little confused .
my Platinum status ended in june 2022 and I had not accumulated enough travel to maintain Platinum on my own .
It was extended to end June 2023.
From reading the press release- https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/status-and-clubs/status/status-support.html

^ Offer is available to eligible Qantas Frequent Flyer members who hold Silver, Gold, Platinum or Platinum One Frequent Flyer status with a status end date between July 2022 to June 2023. The 12-month status extension does not apply to members who retain their status in their own right or move up to a higher tier.

I interpret it to mean that whether or not i have enough travel to the end of current status next year , I will be status extended to 2024 !
Is this how other posters understand it .

$50 voucher also can’t be used if there’s children on the booking… so that’ll render it useless to plenty of parents.

Yay more points for more toasters
I agree, please correct me if I am wrong, the only real "status extension" here is the fact that booking one QF operated flight is no longer required to qualify? Otherwise it's not like Qantas is giving us another year of status. Prior to this announcement just need to book one flight and status extended to the same date. Is this how everyone is interpreting it?

Unless they sign the kids up for free as new QFF and get a voucher each! $149 “value” for each new starter…

Interesting news from today regarding status extensions.
Not sure though if this new status extension further extends previous ones.
I got screwed, I am 30 June date so missed this offer by one month and now I get nothing. If Qantas was really being generous they would apply it to all members not just a lucky few so this wasn't just a PR STUNT. Typical JOYCE!!!

No, anyone with status previously ending NLT end of June 2022 can now get status to thru to 2024!

Those of us with now with July 2023 anniversaries onwards are still on the hamster status wheel.

That's how I see it. Or, to put it another way, for many people merely a smoke and mirrors trick.

Raising fares in line with the discount is cheeky and predictable (and disingenuous), but limiting their use only to situations that force you to give them even more cash is pathetic. Entirely predictable, but pathetic, particularly in the case of flight credits.

For a return flight, this at minimum will force an additional ~$200 to be paid in cash for QF's cheapest sectors and fare codes.

I truly can't believe how short-sighted and poor this company's leadership team is.

Could someone explain what DragonBABY and I seem to be missing, because we're obviously both missing something here. I was basing it on this:
What has changed with the status support Qantas is providing members with a status end
date between June - December 2022?

Previously we offered eligible members who are unable to achieve the Status Credits needed to retain their status a 12-month status extension provided that before the end of their current Membership Year, they made at least one new eligible booking. We’re removing the requirement to make a booking and will now be providing automatic status extensions. Additionally, Qantas will remove the flight booking requirement to qualify for the Status Credit rollover.

$50 is an insult, and so is Joyce's so called"on behalf of Qantas" apology.

He doesn't even have the decency to apologise on his own behalf for engineering the total schemozzle travelling with Qantas has become, and all the pain and grief he personally has caused.

Yes, if you hadn’t flown a sector then you get the extension anyway to 2023. But now there’s a whole bunch of peeps who are getting a further extension to 2024 (up to and including June anniversary QFF’s).
