Qantas apologises to frequent flyers with status extensions, lounge passes, points & more reward seats

Yep, including your website which is now down!

Was mentioned here quite some time back in this thread.

No surprises.

(Was going to start thread back then titled "Qantas Website Joyced" ... but couldn't be bothered!)

Just for interest - my wife's e-mail as a PS with year ending Feb-23 had notably different wording around the status extension to mine as WP with year ending Aug-23. One is to extend for another year; the other is to confirm extension into the coming year. Fairly clear at this point that I'll need to plan around my 2022-23 membership year being a proper earner, if I want WP status for 2023-24

Exhibit A:
In recognition, we would like to extend your Silver status for another year so you can continue to experience your extra benefits. You will hear more about this from Qantas Frequent Flyer shortly.

Exhibit B:
In addition, we'd like to confirm the extension of your Platinum status into 2023 so you can continue to experience your extra benefits. You will hear more about this from Qantas Frequent Flyer shortly.

Cheers,
Matt.

My email said nothing of a status extension at all. I levelled back up to WP during this membership year so I don't qualify for a status extension unless they extend the program again.

If I knew in advance that it was going to be extended again for another year, I would have credited all the last 2 year's flights to BAEC instead!

If only I knew in advance lotto numbers from 2 years back.

I think people who got there without extensions are lucky enough they managed to get out and about. The remainder have not been so lucky and there seems to be a few people worried others got something they did not, again because they managed to be out and about travelling.

I received my email, 30K points, status extension and if I have the app a $50 credit. I don't have the app so will miss out on the credit but with fares the way they are I doubt I would notice the difference.

I was keen to travel overseas mid-2020, so when the borders opened I was on one of the first QF flights to LHR from MEL via DRW. I've been over a second time since then, shortly after my first visit to NZ. I would travel again soon if I had the time.

Anyone who wants to can travel provided they have the leave etc. so I am surprised that QF is still extending status rather than focusing on motivating people to travel again. I would have thought a DSC promo or maybe a one-off Triple Status Credits Promo with no status extension would have been a better strategy, but QF has obviously decided what they have done is the way to go.

So QF does it again. Consistently Inconsistent(tm) - and baffling.

Why offer some 15k and some 30k? Where is the logic a WP can get 30k and a P1 15k points? why not standardise it for all at each level and be fair? I don't understand why they would do this. Well I understand being fair creates more liability but this is just such a bad look. Did they think nobody would talk and notice oh I got x but you're same (or higher) and got Y? come on. Stupid.

And what is the criteria anyway? I know of high value/heavy flying P1's offered only 15k points, and some other Plats who have not flown muych who seem to have been offered more. Huh?

(for the record I got offered 30k as P1 so this is not about me)

Same with the Status Extensions - the headline says an extension of status for a year. The reality is that it seems that for July-Dec anniversaries they have just removed the flight requirement under the existing promotion and for Jan-June that potentially some will get into 2024(good for them). Again though it's not entirely fair imo and the headline is misleading.

I mean really QF.. I await the T&C on the $50 offer. What's the gotchya there?

And I also wonder why do we have to "Accept" these offers (by 30 Sep)? I can't help feeling there is some kind of legal in that.. like don't come after us for poor operational things if you happily accepted these gifts type deal. I don't know for sure, but I don't understand why there would be a requirement to accept them. If we don't accept them then what? Why would you not? Or is it just a bit of a savingts idea for those that don't check their email or app by 30 Sep to not accept the $50 offer, points or status and thus somehow saves QF a few bucks? Something a bit fishy about that for me.

So again surface is all oh loook at how lovely we are and all the things we are throwing at FF's... the reality.. is not quite what it seems for many of us.

and again, I care more about better operational reliability and not losing my bag as a customer tbh. Fix that. the call centre issues and all the rest and that's what you need more than tokens - which it seems many of these are. (yes the 15k-30k points have some reasonable value there but if folks are points rich then it's not that big a deal anyway for some).

imo

You could download and install the app, get the credit and then delete the app again if you don't want it. You can screenshot the voucher code or wait to receive it in an email about a week after accepting the $50.

Well, assuming the assumption of people who are not getting/don't need the extension are getting 30k and the others 15k is correct, then that is probably "fair"?

I agree that I care about them improving their service more than the freebies. I already have a lot of points my rate of earning points has slowed considerably.

I put bag tracking tags in my cases after reading the story in the news of someone using them to find and recover thousands of dollars of equipment (not that my luggage was worth anything like that, but there is the sentimental value of items and inconvenience of replacing things). When I was waiting for passport control in LHR I was able to check and confirm that my bags had made it to LHR. I also was able to confirm on the return trip when I got to SYD that my bags had arrived before I collected them and at other times on my journey. I normally fly HLO domestically so I have limited data points on how baggage has been handled for me.

You have to accept the offer, so the offer can be personalized to you and generate (presumably) a unique code, this also links it up to their CRM systems (salesforce).

Reading comments in this thread and in the P1 thread that's not how they decided who got 30k or 15k points though. There are people who don't need an extension who got 15k points.

It seems to have been based on when your membeship year is. So, those with a Jul-Dec 22 anniversary are getting 30K points (and not much from the extension). Those with a Jan-Jun 23 anniversary seem to be getting th 15K bonus.

That seems mostly to be the case, but I think I've read some comments that indicate that that's not what has happened for some.

I've got a end-of-Feb 23 anniversary and got 30k.........
