Qantas apologises to frequent flyers with status extensions, lounge passes, points & more reward seats

So instead of fifty bucks, how about letting us know you have cancelled our 7:40 flight to Sydney in a 717 and put us on a later q400 (which I detest with a passion). So instead of a leisurely time in the lounge in Sydney, we have to rush, “not happy Jan“, is an understatement.

Whilst I‘m having a rant, SWMO has gone from J, 2A to 18A, there are only 19 rows on a q400.
She was in J for the SCs of course, so now the painful experience of trying to get these credited.

No sms, no email……….

Question for the honourable Plat and Plat-1 members ... do you expect the 15K or 30K points will count towards Points Club thresholds? Or do you expect they will be treated the same as the 10K offered for achieving Green Tier, which were considered a "gift" or a "bonus" and not "earned" and hence did not count towards PC/PC+ tiers?

I guess we won't know the answer until the points start landing in members' accounts.

Same here. Platinum based in the UK and no email at all yet. In the app I get the offer for $50 but obviously can't accept.
Sample size of 2, but would seem like the emails (and offers) were only sent to QFF members based in AU/NZ.

Wondering if that was intentional (since it won't make the news in the international press), or an accidental omission or QF IT error...

My email said to click on the link to accept these offers, which I did. States $50 only available only in Australia and NZ. Goes on to advise points will come automagically within 2 weeks. No mention of location for the points, but You must have accepted to receive marketing and news emails to receive this offer.
Thanks, so there's no obvious exclusion of overseas WP/P1 members to be eligible for the 15K/30K points offers based on this, so we may get the email eventually!

No e-ticket nor points have been deducted. Been 3 hours since booking via phone.

should i be worried?
When you book over phone, apparently (according to them) the request gets queued with the Frequent Flyer team to calculate and adjust your points balance, and then queued with the ticketing team to generate and send the eTickets. Both of which are a manual process apparently (I asked them directly if it was a manual process).

You can ring them again and ask them to expedite the request, but (me being in a similar situation) they have indicated to me in can take up to 24-48 hours to process because my flight isn’t imminent.

They also said if it hasn’t been ticketed after 24 hours I can ring back if I want.

not a big difference to some of us who have expiry post June 2023. I have expiry this December that was already going to be further extended. I realise the extension to 2024 would have been too much but other than points, it doesn't appeal me much after delays and all other well known issues

If this is anything to go by (from the website), unlikely:

All points earned on the ground (on things like credit cards, car hire and banking) up to a maximum of 125,000 points per transaction will count. We will also count up to 20,000 points from flying per Membership Year. Points received from things like Family Transfers, Qantas Business Rewards, your Loyalty, Platinum and Platinum One Bonus will not contribute to your Points Club balance. To see which points count towards Points Club, a summary is provided below:

Points Club and Points Club Plus
Qantas Points earned from flying20,000 per Membership Year
Other Qantas Points earned (on things like credit cards, car hire and banking)125,000 per transaction
Top-up Points purchasedAll points count
Qantas Points transferred from another reward or loyalty scheme (eg an indirect earn credit card)125,000 per transaction
Qantas Points received from Loyalty BonusPoints do not count
Qantas Points received from Platinum Bonus RewardPoints do not count
Qantas Points received from Platinum One BonusPoints do not count
Qantas Points received from a Family TransferPoints do not count
Qantas Points received from a Qantas Business Rewards TransferPoints do not count
Refunded Qantas Points (due to refund/cancellation)Points do not count

Well I got a J seat from SYD-LHR-SYD for March 2023. Noticed a lot of seats to SIN as well but nothing to YVR. I have never seen so many seats available 6 months out. Got to take what we can get, I guess.

I can't answer your hypothesis (though from currency choice it would seem OZ/NZ olny) but I'm amazed Sydney Airlines recognized anyone outside of NSW!!

Looks like all of the business class flights to Europe and the US have been snapped up. Hope that dopamine hit isn't short lived and they look at improving their customer service.
I'm trying Brisbane to Heathrow J class next May/June. On the heading date row I see 1st to 10th June at 177,400 pts (all other days the usual over 1 mill) but when you scroll down the page there's nothing available at 177,400. This has been occurring for a couple of weeks, not just since the recent announcement. Anyone else having similar problem?

I'll make it a sample size of three - I didn't get the email either.

Whilst it did make reference to the $50, there was nothing obvious that I could see in the T&Cs to exclude overseas members from the points offers or status extension.

From what I recall in an earlier extension emails went to AU/NZ members first (which required booking of a flight), and an email went later to overseas members (that didn't have the flight requirement). Potentially there is still a chance that overseas members will get an email and points, although I could understand if they were excluded as they might be more likely to spend the points on partner airlines.

I'm not too bothered one way or the other if I get the points or not, but hope we still get the status extension.

I booked a PE/J tic MEL-LAX-MEL yesterday afternoon (for next month) which is showing in bookings, but no e-ticket or points deducted yet. Anyone else in the same boat or do I need to think about calling?

A more effective way for this apology to be enacted would have been to simply (for the membership YEs in question), roll forward the amount of SCs earned. That way the actual flyers who have continued to fly / spend with QF would get a real benefit, those that had done some flying would get a boost to the start of their next membership year and those that have done no flying get nothing as they’re also the ones that haven’t had to endure QF effups
100% agree… extending status for non flyers makes no sense at all.

Reward those of us who have been (stupidly?) loyal and active during these trying times.

With regard to who got what, it seems to me that 30k points went to those for whom a status extension would not have provided benefit (I am in this camp, 31 Jan year end and already re-qualified) and 15k points + status extension went to those for whom a status extension provided a benefit (friends and colleagues were in this camp).

I booked business LAX-MEL-LAX in November using points yesterday, processed very quickly and points deducted. Must say I was very pleasantly surprised.

Platinum with April membership year expiry and was offered 15,000 points.

I was already three-quarters of the way to re-qualifying for WP at the time the email came through (which was actually mid-flight!), with a raft of forward bookings that will easily vault me past 1200 SCs this year. So the status extension won't do me any good.

However, I'm sanguine about not getting the additional 15,000 points. While it would have been nice, it's inevitable that there will always be some people who will get better value out of these types of offers than others. I'm happy for those who can extract full value, while also being thankful for the 480 SCs that this offer will roll over. That'll make it that much easier to maintain WP for another year.

Platinum earned this year, Nov 30 rollover date so no additional status extension as held until Nov 23 but 30 000 points. Likely use to book domestic flights for a (hopeful) trip to Japan in Dec/Jan and the 30k lines up nicely with Y reward JAL flights.

Yes, same. Could not find anything BNE-LHR but SYD-LHR was available...but adding the BNE-SYD flight in multi-city created an error message.

I found some yesterday but had to use multi city search to get them. Got awards from LHR to KL then Adelaide for two in J.
