Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Well I truly hope it’s something different. Flew MEL-BNE on Thursday and they had the usual pumpkin soup, vegetarian salad and the toastie. Another soup or toastie and I will loose it!

I don’t even do QF J that often but seriously the options are utterly disappointing. I am flying back tomorrow on lunch time again so hoping for a bit of variety.

Didn’t expect anything different so surprisingly not that annoyed at this pathetic J menu on a recent PER-MEL redeye.

Service though was fantastic. Crew very upfront about what options were and the time that you would be woken up if you asked for breakfast (60 minutes). I had a couple of drinks but declined all food and asked not to be woken. Nevertheless I was awake 30 minutes out and was offered all the breakfast items.

I’ll blame the quick service for the fact that the CSM encouraged me to visit the J lounge on arrival rather than recognising I’d be off to the F lounge instead.

Fish and cheese the same as usual. Fine but nothing special.

Crew was great - including a CSM and FA I’d been somewhat critical of upthread. This time they were consistently friendly and helpful.

No pre-meal drinks round again. When the CSM came round for the greeting I asked for one and after initially saying the crew would be doing drinks with lunch he stopped himself and asked if he could get me something now. He arranged a FA to do it and she responded quickly (including to come and tell me she’d need to look around for the drink I asked for and if there’s an alternative I’d have if she couldn’t find it.). Much better service.

I had this the other night from MEL to ADL which I think is the fish with fennel. It tasted a lot better than it looked - extremely poor presentation. I had a bite of the cake and it went straight back in the box. It might have been fresh a week or so agoIMG_2466.jpgIMG_2469.jpg

Sounds mysterious. Any clue on what these may be? Enhancements? 😀

So on these flights, there are now 2 new smaller items and you can pick and mix to suit your appetite. If you're not hungry you might just have the cake with a hot drink. Or if you don't have a sweet tooth, you have the savoury item and a drink. If you are a bit hungrier, you could have the savoury and the soup with some bread. Or maybe you go wild and have the savoury and the cake and the soup and the cheese and the chocolate bar! The load scales have also increased so you'll always be able to have the 2 smaller items (and more than 1 of them) in addition to the soup or cheese and in some cases you'll be able to request both.

For the morning flights, there is a brunch bowl instead of the soup/cheese.

Flights that are outside of the times I posted above still receive the normal service as before.

Also experienced a less-than-fresh cake. CSM said he would report it. Advised there were no spares, no replacement offered. Later in the flight, the galley operator was eating one. Asked if it tasted fresh, she said yes.

You do know that this is probably their meal?

On QF765 SYD-ADL currently and was offered a choice of 1 mini meat pie a bowl of soup or the cheese box. Could also have a cup cake to go with one of the 3 options.
Pie was tiny and there was a couple left over which was offered up.
Bread roll was like a brick and inedible

What a disgrace. The jar of chutney is as big as the pie.
Was a tad underwhelming TBH.
Didn’t help that the SYD QF J lounge was a zoo so didn’t grab much to eat and then our flight was delayed by about 30 minutes. By time the “meals” came out it was nearly 6pm so I was quite hungry

Pork pie was next:

Was a sorry looking effort with two pretty small pieces of pork. But was very tasty (if too salty) and I’d probably have again.

Cheese to finish.

Outstanding crew, with several familiar faces. Good flight.

Oh wow, finally something new on the trans-Tasman! I have quite a few of those coming up again over the next couple of weeks and if I am offered the stone-hard 'soft' tacos with the pork one more time, I am going to literally start crying and won't stop for the 3 and a half hour flight.

So Qantas, please please please spare this to all the other poor souls on my upcoming flights!

Two more fresh menus this week. And no sign of tacos. Hopefully you’ll be ok.

Dinner Sydney to Adelaide a few evenings ago. Choices were chicken Kiev or a cold beef salad.

Chicken was good. Nicely cooked and a good piece of meat. Only shortcoming was could have done with more garlic and butter inside.

Pre-dinner drinks round and overall good service on a good flight.

This is the odd thing with Qantas- if you’re lucky, you have a relatively short hop between Sydney and Adelaide and get such a nice meal (had that chicken Kiev before and it is indeed awesome) but then again, you can end up with a Kale salad from Sydney to Cairns which happened to me not long ago.

SYD-CNS lunchtime flight on the A330. Duck breast with polenta, or a beef steak. No drink run offered pre-meal (but one provided on request).

Duck was nice but has been on this route now for as few months.

Cake was a nut and cinnamon thing. I'm not a fan of cinnamon so didn't try, but it looked fresh and decent.

Service was good.

SYD-AKL 18:55 A330 service.

A new menu (OCT 19):

IMG_1759.JPG

A bit different to previous menus so was quite pleased.

Soup looked good but was not overly hungry so just went the crudo and didn't make my usual ask for a taster of soup.

Superb starter! Great pieces of fish. The chilli and lemon salsa was sensational.

Made up for the demise of sashimi in the F lounge.
