Qantas Business Class meals & menus

For the main the lamb looked good but being on a bun made me hesitate. So I went for the baked chicken.

Very tasty dish. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Cheese plate (with and without the crispbread) followed. Usual. Neither good nor bad ex-Oz plate.

No pre-meal drink round. But other than that, service was terrific.

Options for Business on my QF37 Flight later this week. Shall I risk the Beef?

On QF J Trans-tasman menus, never understood why ;

1. Veg options - why soup in entrees and again in mains ? It's not like, I go "hmmm ... I had soup for entree .. more soup for me ... in the mains"

2. Offer cheese plate in Mains ? I can understand cheese plate offered AFTER the meals, not AS a meal

Penny-pinching and menu-padding. Pure and simple.

To be slightly fairer, I do hear quite a few people ask just for soup, and the big bowl usually adds some accompaniments. The cheese plate does stun me.

I had this the other night from MEL to ADL which I think is the fish with fennel. It tasted a lot better than it looked - extremely poor presentation. I had a bite of the cake and it went straight back in the box. It might have been fresh a week or so agoView attachment 193214View attachment 193215

OT had a strange experience on a MEL/ADL flight today. Couldn’t book row1 even though Amadeus showed 1C and 1F available. Ended up in 3C, no dramas but 3A and I were served first. Row 1 was served after us.

Ah! okie ... I see what you mean ... the accompaniments might be a slice of bread or some leafy salad or something to go along with the soup

The cheese plate does stun me.

LOL yea ... me too !!

Penny-pinching and menu-padding. Pure and simple.

Absolutely agree on this !!

I've got a few TT back and forth late Nov/Early Dec - will try and pre-order a veg meal and see what's served

All just to make the menu look bigger and more varied than it actually is. And they somehow have to justify the ultra idiotic lie that you can "enjoy a totally customized experience" as they always claim in the introduction blurb

Spanakopita for main.

Massive serve. Nice dish as well but a little bit much of the same taste. Would have liked more pastry and something more than just tomatoes on the side. But nice to have something quite different.

Usual nice cheese ex-NZ.

Excellent crew and good service. Pre-meal drink round offered and was delivered.

To be fair the main soup is larger and does usually have a different or additional garnish on the top.
I also have just decided to have a cheese platter as well.
This is because:
  1. I love soup and find it hard to pass up, but never for entrée ANDmain
  2. I have a meal in the First Lounge, or Emirates Lounge so not too hungry
Now the bowl of salad greens with the dressing as a main is confusing. My father, in Business Class for the first time in decades, said the FA that he would have a salad for the entrée and when they asked my mother for her choice of main he was told that he already had his main so all he could eat was the chees platter or ice cream. It did not go down well but afterwards told that there were a couple of mains (not salads) left and he could have his choice....and they still served him a small "salad" with it.

Hmm ... I see your point. But again, it's a bowl of soup ... that you had for entree and then AGAIN for main .. It could well be a different soup, but it's still soup :D I'm thinking pax would like to have something "solid" for mains ... Soup is more of an appetizer, sets path for the main course ... etc etc ...

However,

IMG_1855.JPG

This menu above from QF AKL-BNE , had the SAME soup for both entree and mains :O Of course the mains had some crispy onions, etc etc ... it's essentially the same soup, just garnished with something different 🤣

I also have just decided to have a cheese platter as well.

Can we ask for 2 mains ?

WHAT ?!?!?!?!?!? Come on ... that ain't fair ... sometimes the FA get stuck to the rule book so tightly ...

couple of mains (not salads) left and he could have his choice..

Good that he finally got what he liked :)

Was the Spanakopita vego ?

Can we ask for 2 mains ?

You can always ASK. But is it worth asking? From my experience (and I almost always ask if I can get the LARGE soup and a proper main), you can get lucky, especially if the J cabin is not too full.

But more often than not, they tell you no can do and sometimes even in a very condescending/lecturing tone. If it’s the latter, you can usually find same crew members munching on exactly that choice themselves later in the flight

REALLY!?!?!?!? o_O o_O That's so bad ... The customer has paid (money or points) for it

very condescending/lecturing tone.

Yup. I have seen something like this happen ... they try to be look concerned and state the obvious ... and then you go, "I get it, I was only asking if there is a chance of a 2nd main" ... and then they go "Like I just said sir, .... lecture follows" 😄

Well, one can't blame them alone - they've been through a few flights that day and didn't have a rest or didn't have time to sit down for a meal or what not ...

Can we ask for 2 mains ?
Unless the cabin was empty I wouldn't personally. Even then I reckon you'd be knocked back 95+% of the time.

I have quite often asked for a small cup or bowl of soup alongside the small plate (as you'll see upthread). Politely and only if available. Pretty sure this has always been granted as that's one thing they have plenty of (and I never see the crew consume themselves).

Whether crew eat "leftover" J meals seems to be a disputed subject. While I don't know with 100% factual certainty as I'm not in the industry, I've flown often enough and observed on QF (and other airlines to be fair) that the answer is yes.

QF1757 CNS/BNE 30/10 19:30 departure

Grilled salmon with garlic sauce. Sounded good. Presentation average. Tasted alright.
