Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Would have been three but my Cairns trip was cancelled.

Would have been one if QF released me a classic reward economy seat. (Told no cheap flexi seats so unable to release a reward seat). Only booked this at T-3 hours! ... plenty of J reward seats on offer!

BNE-PER dinner flight (about 7:20pm departure) A330.

A bit OT but was shocked that the J lounge Cantina or whatever it's called was completely shut at about 18:20 with several flights still to be called.

Rubbish water or sparkling juice as PDB. Thankfully a new and interesting menu:

Drinks round (from the trolley) done pretty quickly.

No J red wines loaded, so reds were the little Y bottles. I stuck with whiskey.

Pate starter. Also had a cup of the soup which was absolutely delicious.

Pate was nice, but surely you plate it -- not leave in the tub???

Barramundi main was very nice.

Cheese plate with glass of muscat to finish.

Finished about 2:15 hours into 5 hour flight. Cabin soon after went dark. I caught some sleep so didn't see what service was like thereafter.

About 1 hour out my call button responded to immediately which then seemed to spark some activity including proactive offering of waters or teas/coffees.

Aside from the wine fail, good flight and good service from a great crew.

Note to self- avoid the pâté as it comes straight dumped on your plate in the supermarket tub (like Qantas’ ice cream). Classy.

QF690 ADL/MEL (live from the aircraft)
Tiny pastry for afternoon tea.
Credit to CSM Donna who announced the forward toilet is for the exclusive use of business class passengers. Unfortunately ignored by a chap in row 433CA241E-7295-4B0B-BA06-E71FFCFE2CD6.jpeg

I presume that's a savoury pastry, served on the same plate as a sweet. With a cold tasteless roll alongside. And salt and pepper. What moron designed these J class offerings.

QF sure is making it easy to choose who to fly on these short sectors outside mealtimes.

Correct. I should have turned the plate around to highlight the (small) size.
Asked (and given) another pastry. Didn't see anyone else try the pastry.

PDB was bottled water only.
Interestingly, different tray set ups. Some passengers were given the larger KoKo Black chocolate.

QF1756 BNE/CNS 3/11 19:40 departure

Scored a free P1 upgrade, so can't complain.
Since J cabin was full (compared to last week 2/12 occupied) drink not served before meal.

Meal choices were bangers and mash or a chicken salad. Again, presentation lacking although tasted ok for sausages, but glad this was not a points upgrade or reward flight.

That looks hideous!

Actually demonstrates a clear difference between QF and VA in my experience. The VA meal is plated and always looks presentable/professional. While I'm not too fussed about presentation if quantity/quality is fine -- can't argue that a nicely presented dish sends a strong signal about standards and care factor.

If you were talking about AirNZ I’d be fine. But Boganblue? Come on, they’re not even remotely in the same league! At best they’re like easyJet or Ryanair but at full price. Nope, nope, nope.

Maybe we've had different experiences - a shame for you 😢 - but I couldn't disagree more. VA J food at least domestically has been in the main superior to QF for some time now. Appreciate my post didn't specify but I was commenting on a domestic 737 meal presentation.

I must admit that I've mostly experienced them on trans-Tasman and those were just AWFUL flights from start to finish. Had only two domestic J class flights with them but was also not too excited about the whole experience. So yes, I continue to be out of luck when it comes to Virgin and not really keen to continue to even try them any longer tbh.

A lot of these responses remind me of my runs to Darwin or trips to NZ in Qantas J - staff almost without exception BUT cheap wines ( red or white only) and meals which are an embarrassment - what about a decent filet of beef or an italian pasta or a lamb chop?
I'm not sure what hold their celebrity cook N Perry has over Chris Joyce but it must be good - I am turned off the choice when his name appears on some esoteric menu item.
What about a survey?

Yes, as I think I've posted elsewhere, I have been underwhelmed by the VA trans-Tasman flights. Nothing wrong, but doubt I will fly again. Will stick with QF (or SQ/EK whenever applicable). Have enjoyed my domestic AirNZ flights but yet to try TT and no real incentive to do so.

SYD-MEL 04 Nov, afternoon 'refreshment' flight on 737-800:

The usual chaos at "priority boarding" which was not even attempted to enforce. Tiny bottle of still water already at the seat which I actually find smarter than the idiotic question of "still or sparkling" on arrival. Given the short duration of flight, the food cart came out just shortly after the seatbelt signs went off. After having seen some of the rather unsatisfactory offerings on non meal time flights on here, I was not expecting much at all but could not been more wrong!

Crew was EXCELLENT on this flight, friendly but professional and quite proactive throughout. As a 'snack' I was offered either soup or cheese pack and I was glad to have ordered the former. It was an Asian style "Hot and Sour soup" which included fresh Kaffir Lime leaves and some rather exotic looking but tasty Asian mushrooms. As with the Laksa soup that Qantas often offers, this soup was awesome: Nice punch as quite spicy and tasy throughout.

The wine was a really nice Aussie Cabernet Merlot and it came with a little chocolate too so I would have been perfectly happy with this on a 1 hour flight. But that was not it!

To my surprise, the purser shortly after came around with a big tray holding little raspberry cheesecake bites. While I usually don't have much of a sweet tooth, I like both cheesecake and raspberry so I couldn't resist.

After a short coffee run and just before landing, the crew suddenly came around ONE MORE TIME, this time offering little Spinach and Ricotta filo triangles (sorry, this came as such a 'shock' that I didn't take a picture). Despite the Spinach, these were actually super tasty and heated up which was a really big surprise to me. The filo crust created a total mess in the entire galley and on the seats but I leave that to "Fleet presentation" to sort later. I was super happy about the surprisingly varied and filling meal offerings which I am not used to on Qantas! Superb flight, from beginning (well, after the none existing priority boarding, that is) to end.

Sorry to be cynical Berlin , but did you notice any important politicians , media representatives , QF execs etc in the J cabin ?
Maybe this is the new meal offerings - great - let's hope they make it to the BNE-SYD services
but I am wondering if the "show" was provided for a "VIP" in the cabin.

Not that I did notice, no, but I was certainly surprised as well. However, the service felt genuinely good- not like a 'show' at all.

I was rather wondering if the had forgotten to serve any food on the flight TO Sydney and now had all this stuff left? :D
