Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Date: 20 Mar 2021
Flight: QF711 CNS-BNE dep 9:40am arr 11:55am
Service: Lunch served at 10:30am, both fairly heavy options. FA mentioned they had delayed meal service as long as possible.

Lamb Rogan Josh - fairly mild but still tasty. Lamb was quite tender.

Chicken thighs in creamy sauce with vegetables - not a huge fan of the sauce, but it was easy enough to eat around.

Date: 20 Mar 2021
Flight: QF535 dep 1:15pm arr 3:50pm
Service: Refreshment I guess. The app just says "Hot meal" now.

Salami & cheese pastry - very light on filling. Unusual for the hot item to be so much less substantial than the cold salad option

Mame & broccoli salad - layer of rice also made this quite a large portion. Would order again over the pastry.

Return leg was on 16 March OOL-SYD on a tired 737, departing at 1430. In contrast, the meals on this flight were terrible.

Mr Seat0A chose the chicken and vegetables. After I saw that, I chose the sausages and mash. Both were a poor choice.Meal 2 OOL-SYD.jpg

This is the chicken - a lot of creamy sauce and the chicken was dry. He said the veggies were nicely cooked, and the sourdough was reliably as it always is. I don't know how you get the veggies nice but the meat dried out.

This is the sausages. The peas were dehydrated, and the mash had a very weird runny consistency. The sausages were under done. In a similar way, I don't know how you get the veggies overdone and the meat underdone, but they managed.

These were very disappointing meals. As others have noted, no welcome drink and basically as soon as the meal was served, the cabin crew vanished and were not seen again. It felt rather austere. This trip was my first flight since February 2020, other than the 747 Farewell flight.

Date: 25 March 2021
Flight: QF490 MEL 1930 - SYD 2050 hrs

Choices: Chicken thigh with creamy sauce and vegetables or Healthy Vegetarian Bowl.

Had the former, chicken was tender and tasty, vegetables were overcooked and mushy. No welcome drinks despite a 20 minute delay at the gate after boarding.

Looks like the chicken thigh and creamy sauce is pretty standard fare. Your experience with good chicken and bad veg is the exact opposite of ours! Ah Qantas, consistently inconsistent! Some things never change.

Looks like prison food slops and by the sounds of it doesnā€™t taste much better either

I reckon many prisoners would be smitten with meals from a hatted chef šŸ˜‚ Agree with you on the slop though.

To be fair the veges were pretty good and the chicken itself was juicy and tender, as you'd expect from thighs. The real issue is the sauce - it's flavourless, very heavy, and there's far too much of it. In my case it was served at 10:30am so it was even less appealing.

There are so many other sauces to pair with chicken that would be tastier, healthier, lighter, potentially cheaper, and equally appealing to a wide range of people, that I'm really struggling to understand why whoever plans these meals went for plain cream. I guess it has the advantage of solidifying when refrigerated so it's less likely to leak when being transported?

Thank god I was in business on my way home. I needed something healthy, so the chick pea, beetroot, celery & egg option was the one for me (no Iā€™m not a vegetarian). The other option was a chicken one but it was proving popular and I was worried it was the one mentioned numerous times above. Served with sparkling water and a Shiraz - I needed 2 glasses to help wash it down ;)

Still one Lindt choc ball that went home to Mrs QF WP.

I was fortunate enough to be given the half empty bottle by the CSM as a gift as we were in final approach, so finished it last night.

QF WP score: 8.5/10

That actually does look fresh and tasty. I hope itā€™s an option on my next flight.

Flew CBR-SYD-ADL today. Both the Qantas club and business lounge is now open in Canberra which meant the business lounge was very quiet with quick food and drink service. Eggs, toast and sausages was pretty decent and other plated options were plentiful and looked fresh though I didn't pay much attention to what they were.

Coffee and a sweet slice of Chocolate/Oat and Lemon/Yoghurt on the quick Dash 8-400 hop up to Sydney.

Was only a short stop in Sydney Business lounge so didn't eat or drink anything. I was, however, approached by a Qantas 'Customer Experience' person with a notepad. He asked about newspapers and if I would pick one up, if they were reintroduced post-covid, or if I would be more likely to use free digital access through qantas wifi/app. He scribbled a few brief notes in his notepad. I take if form that line of questioning that Qantas are seriously thinking of dropping physical newspapers permanently. Sad as I like picking up the paper in the lounge.

Left the lounge to catch the 12:30ish QF739 to Adelaide. Got to the gate to find no priority boarding and everyone lining up in the business line to board so I joined the queue. The flight was near full with every business seat taken.

No pre-flight drink but meals served pretty quickly, once in the air. Choice of a pork sausage roll or the chickpea, egg, beetroot salad mentioned by others above. Everyone went with the sausage roll until they ran out and consequently the last seat in business was given the salad. Sausage roll was pretty tasty for what it was with a few passengers commenting that it was good.

Service was friendly and professional with the flight attendant having a bit of a chat to everyone. Unfortunately, I got stuck next to a fairly entitled young child that kept butting in and demanding service everytime the flight attendant was about to serve or talk to me and his large laptop obstructed the flight attendant pouring my wine etc.

Flight attendant did a second round of the cabin to offer tea/coffee, or in my case a wine refill, before an announcement was made over the PA that 'meal service was over' and we were all told to put our masks back on, including in business. Hrmph.

This was a bid now upgrade, and overall it was a passable flight, but I wouldn't pay for the 'experience' over Qantas economy.

I forgot to mention the vinaigrette that you can see over the egg and was at the bottom of the dish. It had the zing that I was love and worked well with everything. It was thick, slighly coating everything as I ate it. Used half my sourdough to soak the rest of it up.

QF637 BNE/MEL 26/03 6:30 pm

No pre-departure drink (not even water). Offerings were "Lamb Shank or Quinoa Salad?"
Meal was better than it looked, carrots were bland but the lamb and gravy were really tasty and the sloppy mash a useful vessel. Just one red and one white offered. Together with the lindor ball as the dessert, my initial reaction was "this deserves to be served in a box in Y".

Sparkling water was offered and taken (can't drink still!)

Had a top-up of the red and then had to request a third.

Overall a bit of an underwhelming experience made memorable only by the Victorian Government's nullification of the Vic Border Permits mid-flight.
