Qantas Business Class meals & menus

This is the barramundi yeah? Had it the other day on SYD - MEL - pretty tasty I thought!
He didn't say, but considering I was in 3F, I was the last to hear his spiel and I just saved him and said "I'll have the fish"

As James Bond said to the SPECTRE agent in From Russia with Love: red wine with fish?

I can make red wine go with everything. I don't drink white wine ;)

I generally apply the rule of red wine with everything!!!
I'm hearing you :D. If there had been a more extensive wine selection other than 1 red and 1 white (a Reisling, IIRC), I would have plumped for a light Pinot Noir. The other option was Waldorf Salad with poached chicken, but the fish smelled good - as I stepped aboard the plane, it wafted into my nostrils and I thought "I have to have that". But the fish was well cooked (nice and moist in the middle) and the tartare sauce packed a punch (not overpoweringly so), so went well with the fish and the red wine IMHO. YMMV, so to each their own.

Glad to hear qantas have some Waldorfs in stock.

My wife nearly lost it on the flight to Melbourne a few weeks ago when they only had the Waldorf left! No cheese plate, nothing... In the end she just had two packets of snack bits and an extra glass of wine. Not happy Jan!!! Managed to regain her sense of humour in the J lounge in Melbourne ahead of the next leg to HBA.

These are all Neil Perry dishes. They might taste good(?) but they aren't such good advertisement for eating at his restaurants, i wouldn't want to pay top dollar to get the noodle salad for example.

Real time arrival report. The J-class food offerings were small or minuscule. I'll now have to go home and prepare some dinner. This was not expected, on a transcontinental J-class flight leaving PER at a 17:00 and arriving at MEL at 22:30. Food offerings in PER QP are not much (the only hot food was soup or a DIY toasties).

The CSM said the lack of desserts was due to safety concerns due to the short flight time! From PER to MEL?? Why say such nonsense to passengers?

Another crew member suggested the small food servings were due to complaints from passengers about constant service that was disruptive. I can't see how? The crew were attentive enough but served portions that were tiny.

Tip to QFd: serve REASONABLE sized meals, especially at dinner time on transcontinental flights.

haha!!

'safety concerns'? Did you ask why?

To be fair, here is the grilled white fish. It was OK, not great. But it was one smallish piece of fish (see the lemon for a size comparison), one sliced potato and 6 or 7 green beans. A light lunch perhaps? I'm a 1.9m male and this is a snack to me. It fills the plate, but it's a very small plate!

If this had been served with a decent starter and dessert it might have been fine.

I heard some poor excuses in my life but not many as silly as those ones.

Yep, when I pulled up the CSM on the lack of dessert recently on MEL-PER dinner flight, she said it was because it was due to the short sector length, and they don't have time to prepare anything. I told her that Virgin were able to.

take ice-cream from storage container. Place on tray. Offer to pax with napkin and spoon. Clear rubbish when pax have finished. Cathay/Dragonair time and motion study: 2.5 minutes. Qantas equivalent: 20-30 mins?

Back in the old days we used to have not only a main meal service from MEL-PER, but we'd have a second hot snack service prior to arrival.

What's the vote on AFF? A full three-course meal including a superb fillet steak in 30 mins like they offer on OZ (including offering a condiments tray with a half-dozen or so selections of mustards and horseradish), or a couple of strands of noodles with a piece of meat and no time for a tub of ice-cream?
