Qantas Business Class meals & menus

sounds like something I would order, and looks good except for the Coke
I only comment because I sent the same pic to a friend who knows me fairly well (don't ask why :p ) and she wrote "Coke? COKE?! Where's the vino?!" lol. I just had a sugar hankering I guess (because I kept the actual chocolate for later lol).

anyway, beverage choice aside, as I noted it was a tasty dish, and the amount and tenderness of the chicken was pretty good and I was somewhat impressed.

Return sector BNE-MEL I didn't eat, It was mid arvo so it was pea & mint soup and "ploughman's plate" (cheese and some meats it seems). Crew gave great service with refills. One FA from Y came and worked J for 2nd half of the flight and was really good - a younger bloke and seemed like a bit of a dude.

SYD-HKG QF127

This was the second day operating this menu, as reported to me by the lovely CSS. She hadn’t had a chance to try any of the newer offerings and was unable to make any recommendations! Nevertheless, I was excited to try this new menu.

Kicked off the meal with a arancini, but unfortunately no margarita was loaded on. Fear not, a glass of vino sufficed!

The chicken skewers were a pleasant surprise, packing with adequate flavour for an in flight item. The skewers appeared a crowd favourite, as I saw probably half the cabin chomping down on it!

I don’t know why they say to never order the fish, because the snapper was one of the best dishes I’ve had on QF. The accompanying snow peas and rice were succulent and supported the fish very well.

Another main served was the beef fillet, which I had tried before. However, it was order by my family and as the picture may support, the beef was drier than desired.

As they brought around the dessert tray, I struggled to make up my mind! Ultimately, the mango mousse made its way onto the table, and was absolutely divine. Not letting that stop me, the CSS came back with a cheese platter as well, as well as some cognac to conclude a wonderful lunch.

Closer to the last few hours of the flight, orders for a light meal prior to arrival were being taken. This served as a dinner as the flight was delayed by a few hours.

The pork packed moderate spice and the rice cakes were the right amount of chewy. There was so much pork on that plate it was difficult to finish, but definitely better to have more than less.

The plant based option looked similar to domestic offerings and was reported to be equally pleasant, as pictured.

Overall, a great new menu selection and attentive service throughout.

So just a quick comment on this. It WAS on my QF9 MEL-PER last week so I gave it a go. It was basically a premix can. Crew apologised as no lime loaded and offered lemon but I declined. Anyway so for pretty much a glorified UDL it wasn't that bad, but certainly not up there with a fresh made one of course.

Apologies for the photo quality, my phone wasn't enjoying the low light. Enjoyed all the meals. Highlight was definitely the mango mousse, high recommend!

That looks a cracker, @obla. Also yours, @jasrulz63

But by this clear wording

... it appears you can have 'dine on demand'? Same on the SYD-ICN menu.

Can anyone confirm that 'dine on demand' is now a thing?

From reports here it seems the PR department says it's a thing but the reality is completely different. So standard QF really ;)

Interesting the more substantial second meal on QF87 vs 127. Block time of 10h50m vs 9h40min, is 10 hours the trigger? Similar departure times

'Prior to Arrival' on 127 vs actually calling it 'Dinner' with bread and dessert on 87

Rats - thought they had changed the policy. I have a couple of international medium-long hauls coming up. But gee, that wording is pretty specific, isn't it?

I recall someone on here recently asked. They said all meals had already been heated when they wanted one later on in the flight. So perhaps if you're proactive and asks before the meals go in the oven, they might save you one?

I reached out to QF on Twitter ages ago for clarification. They conveniently ignored my question. Perhaps the @AFF Editor might be able to get a better answer for us on this?

There is no dine on demand, however occasionally if someone asks for it later and we haven’t started cooking, I’ve got no issues putting it aside.

I gather you're crew? So what is that little spiel about that's been added? Just another way for QF to disappoint pax?

Once in row 11 on the old config A380, FAs came to take the meal order quickly after the seatbelt sign was off.
I asked for it to be served later - was told that all the meals are already in the oven and there were none that could be set aside.

QF634 Mel-Bne last flight, had the mint pea soup, was quite nice with fresh garnish - 2 pieces of warm bread on side and Koko Black Moreish Milk bar

I think you might be reading the text with too much hope in your mind.

I read it (e.g. the one pictured toward the top of this page) as saying that you can have the full menu options available to choose from, if you order during the post-departure service window, or, you can select items from the mid-flight menu, any time outside the set service windows during the flight.

Qantas confuse the issue by using wording like;
"We invite you to tailor this menu...", which doesn't mean dine on demand, it just means select from the options available during the specific service windows.
"Whether you'd like to enjoy a full meal after take-off or a section of dishes throughout your flight...", which doesn't mean dine on demand, it means you only get the full selection of main menu times during the service window, and can order outside of the primary service window, but only from the mid-flight menu. (So, if you like, dine on demand at Qantas only means that you can dine on; fruit, biscuits, chips and chocolate.)

I suspect you're right. They've basically changed nothing but just added more loose wording that's only going to be disappoint people who interpret as dine on demand.
