Qantas Business Class meals & menus

I didn't take any pictures, but the food was pretty average. Nothing really appealed. The prawns were ok at best. The fish was dry. Also, not sure what's going on with the appertivo. Both ways it was just back to the nuts. Finally, both directions the NP weeds have made a comeback. I feel like J food has gone backwards again or maybe it's just this route.

Got a bit of a back log to get out.

Jan 1 - QF1865 DRW-MEL
SDT: 1235 - FT: 4:10

Beef stew with potatoes was my choice. Other option was prawns in chilli and garlic sauce or a chicken Cesar salad. Potatoes were very dry and the beef was tough. Flight was pretty terrible. Was a while ago but there was forum about it. Cabin manager left after the meal and sat in the rear galley for 3 hours. No other drinks were offered. No dessert either including ice cream. Not sure if we were meant to get it but have had on all other QQ as QF flights from DRW so.

Jan 1 - QF697 MEL-ADL
SDT: 1915 - FT 1:20

Flight left on time. Teriyaki chicken and fried rice. Other choice was cheese plate. Flight was fine without being exceptional. Pretty standard.

Feb 8 - QF840 SYD-DRW
SDT: 0815 - FT 4:30

Quiche or frittata. Can’t remember exactly. Pretty standard breakfast tbh. Nothing to write home about. Slept for rest of the flight.

Mar 3 - QF841 DRW-SYD
SDT: 1200 - FT: 4:25
Currently the only mainline QF flight from Darwin was pretty happy not to be on an E-Jet for once. Cabin manger was fantastic. Drinks offered before departure and orders for after take off taken at the same time.

3 choices. Wagyu beef in five spice sauce, Asian greens and rice, minced pork with noodles or a Vietnamese chicken salad (which my neighbour reported to be excellent). Beef was very nice. Sauce was tasty and overall very happy with the flight.

Mar 3 - QF745 SYD-ADL
SDT: 1855 - FT: 2:05

Quick hop to Sydney. 30-45ish min delay due late inbound aircraft. Crew were very apologetic. Two choices. Lamb and a lemon cream sauce or “poached,” chicken Cesar salad. Tbh the chicken tasted and had the texture exactly like the Woolworths smoked chicken legs. Was still okay though. Cabin manager was also good. Did multiple coffee and tea runs aswell as other drinks.

QF775 can manage the improved salad at least. Was sold this as Mac and cheese. Perhaps I didn't hear the bit about the hunk of beef. Meal was passable. Butter provided but no bread offered 🤷‍♂️

Quick run up to CNS on the QF1874 E190. 9.05am departure delayed by a medical incident in the aerobridge which appears to be handled well.

Options on the morning run were the QF stables being a quiche or toastie (pictured). Not sure why the tray has its own wading pond, but otherwise tasted alright.

No wifi, no entertainment - but both known factors for the e190 product.

Very small pour of wine there!

I could just claim that I scoffed most of it already but I did only ask for a small pour. Didn't really feel like one but want to sample the Xanadu Cab Sauv.

On the return leg from CNS (QF709) this afternoon - this time a mainline 737.

Choices were a wagu steak or a garlic chicken (pictured). Row one was offered a crew meal as the pilots were not eating but I didn’t catch what it was.

Meal was tasty and the crew was one of the best crews I’ve seen on QF domestic and even dare I say it a cut above the J class VA crews. Very personable and ensured at all times that no one was without a drink.

I thought Neil Perry's influence would have waned now that CEOs have changed .
Sad!
Why? NP was brought into the QF fold when James Strong was CEO, you then had Geoff Dixon prior to AJ so is now onto his fourth CEO whilst working with QF. Doesn't seem that a change in CEO changes his influence...

Good point.
Maybe things will change if his green leaf concoctions are on the menus at the Chairman's Lounges.

Menu
IMG_7963 Large.jpeg

Arancini starter

IMG_7985 Large.jpeg

Salmon crudo entree. Not bad, salmon and vegetables were all fresh enough
Leaves still persist

IMG_7988 Large.jpeg

Borrowdale Pork main - flavour is good, pork on the other hand was rubbery

IMG_7991 Large.jpeg

Mango Mouse dessert - flavour and textures were good

IMG_7995 Large.jpeg

There was also supper served ~1.5hr before landing, skipped in favour of sleep though so no photos from then

New menu
IMG_8467 Large.jpeg

Main - Coffee Pork Ribs

Originally selected fish but FA currently recommends against (hard/rubbery). Was pointed to pork ribs, and chose them instead. Meat was an appropriate level of softness and delicious, definitely agree with recommendation

IMG_8483 Large.jpeg

Torta di Verona dessert - nice finish to the meal

IMG_8485 Large.jpeg

Breakfast

Standard fare in Fruit salad with yoghurt, cherry danish and bacon egg roll. No real changes to these items

Some of the wordings used in the dish name is a bit funny or feel like the person who wrote the menu felt the need to make sure that there are some *Indian* words in the menu, to make it sound more *localised* ...

For instance "broccoli poriyal" isn't a thing in India ... at least not mainstream culinary thingy... "Poriyal" roughly translates to "sauteed" ... not so much stir-fried, but stir-fried longer that the spices mix well with the item being cooked or the item cooked soaks the spices, in a dry form, not stewy form. Growing up in India, I did not have broccoli "poriyal" for 24 something years. From what I know, Broccoli is still *new* to the Indian culinary scene and is not an *everyday* thing for many in India.

Also the word "Poriyal" is very south-Indian/Tamil origin - so not sure how it fits into a flight that flies in/out of DEL (which is geographically North India)

Same goes for the "Paneer gassi .... with green beans poriyal"

"Bannockburn chicken kofta makhani ..." Makhani means "butter" ... so the dish is "bannockburn chicken balls butter". I believe the word "makhani" could be better placed elsewhere in the long name, instead of where it is now ...

Above is all my personal opinion. May be there is a reason who the menu-person at QF wanted to use these terms.

Your mango mousse has 3x more QTY than what I got on QF29!
