It's all a bit surreal, though. Never been refused when I've ordered multiple coughtails and glasses of bubbles in one go at the table in the lounge.

I thought it was only a restriction in Sydney (or AU) F lounges due to a responsible service 'issue' that occurred at some point, which (if true) likely put the operator on notice. I've seen reference to some good strength coughtails in QF lounges at other ports (SIN F?), though I never order them myself... so couldn't comment.

Moderate strength. That said, half a dozen of the sour plum margaritas in SIN F will put anyone in a happy spot for the misery to come on board an A330 back to Melbourne...

I've had traveling companions be told no off-menu coughtails in the QF lounge at LHR as well.

First, no that's not true. It applies to all 4 F lounges (SYD, MEL, SIN & LAX) and trust me I have tried. (Probably also the staffed international J lounge bars but I can't confirm that).

Second - even if you see what should be a high BAC coughtail on the menu, things may not be as they appear. I saw a French 75 on the SYD menu about 6 months ago. That is gin and champagne (and some citrus/sugar). No bartender could make that weak. However when I ordered it, the waitress brought it over in a RTD bottle, and it was 1.0 standard drinks (similar to Aperol Spritz RTDs you see in the bottle shop).

Third - the restriction makes no sense, in an F lounge where you'd expect most people can behave and in any case have a staff member providing RSA at all times. As opposed to the J lounge, where there's nothing stopping you pouring yourself a pint of vodka.

It is a bizarre rule that I never have, and never will, understand. (Followed closely by why you could buy spirits on JQ but not QF Y). But drink up the expensive champagne that costs at least 4x per drink and is super easy to chug.

Best EM I had was HKG lounge pre covid. The bar staff were awesome and happtmy to make multiples .

Oh how tomes have changed. Sigh
Pre covid I've had EMs in SYD/MEL F with modifications, eg asking for honey instead of sugar syrup, adding Baileys or Cointreau.

Haven't asked recently, sounds like I shouldn't bother!

On the Third point - you can also self serve in fridges at the AU F lounges, as well… at least for beer. Agree it makes no sense, and I believe their conveniently thrifty hardline take is at odds with RSA, as well.

QF68 BLR - SYD 08/07

We selected the Vegetarian Hindu meal for my wife and she did end up getting the same Mysore curry main that was an option on the menu.

The entree she got was a chickpea salad. For breakfast she got uttaiyapum.

Would've been better off taking our chances and ordering off the menu. She would've got a better breakfast at least.

I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner though 😁

QF703 CNS-MEL 13/7 (A330)
2 meal options offered in J:
My choice - Lamb shank w roast potatoes, sour dough side and a red velvet cake for dessert.
Wife chose - Curry (mild) chicken w rice, same side / dessert.
Both meals were of a good standard.

QF5 SYD-PER 789 VH-ZNC Tues July 9 sched 1920 actual pushback 1925 takeoff 1946 (16L)

After a good day visiting the eldest son in SYD, great to be in real J again for the flight home. Very nice meal in the Flounge prior. Good service from CSM Chris (who came around soon after seat belts off welcoming the WPs and better) and FAs Tyler and Emma.

Great to see a printed menu again on a PER flight. PDB of Jacquart was swiftly offered on boarding

IMG_2118.jpeg
Pre dinner drink of the Singleton 12 year single malt, served with sparking water and nuts. Not the greatest single malt I have had, but having it hot on the heels of the stellar Lark from the F lounge was probably not a good idea.

IMG_2124.jpeg
Entree of mushroom soup with Parmesan, unexpectedly good, rich and satisfying. Had the Yarra Yering chardonnay alongside which was quite good.

After having a wonderful steak in EK F last night, wasn't expecting anything remarkable from the beef fillet. This was actually a very nice cut though, obviously too well done which seems to be unavoidable on planes but remained very tender and tasty, compared well with last night's. Accompanied by the Fowles 2016 Shiraz which was quite drinkable.

Excellent cheese platter to finish, all 3 cheeses hitting the spot nicely. Please QF, bring these back on regular PER flights!

One of the best QF flights in a while, am going to try to get on 5/6 and 33/34 to SYD as much as possible going forward, as the J service is in a different league to the enhanced offering on other PER flights since covid (to say nothing of the rubbish narrowbodies that now dominate the route). Couldn't fault QF tonight though.

QF22 DFW -MEL scheduled Wednesday 10 July, actual departure Thursday 11 July. Dinner and breakfast made sense formthr original departure but not so much for the 9.30pm arrival we ended up with.

Steak was a little overcooked but still tender. Less sauce would've been good.

Blueberry crumble was pretty average and my dessert wine arrived just as I finished.

Breakfast ciabatta was delicious, cuppa was almost stone cold. Untoasted muesli was also a miss.

The "untoasted muesli" sounds like Neil Perry's contribution to the menu!

Had the current NA menu yesterday. Snapper served without shellfish sauce so was very dry and bland. Then they forgot to do the bakery and yogurt as part of the breakfast order. Service by FAs was great though.

Is anyone able to answer what the international J chardonay is ATM? I think it was Yearling but not sure of type/vintage. Thanks
