Qantas Business Class meals & menus

QF1953 - DRW-ADL. E190 (Might have posted this one before)
SDT: 1845 - FT: 03:45
Flight departed on time, very light load. just 33 on the flight.

Three options, beef in five spice sauce with rice, chicken and ginger noodles and Vietnamese chicken salad. I opted for the later. Was nice and fresh, the grapefruit segments were a nice surprise.

QF453 - SYD-MEL A333

SDT: 1115 - FT: 01:25

Flight boarded a little late, the cabin was filthy. Didn't look like it had been cleaned in weeks.

2 options, bacon and cheese croissant or muesli. The croissant itself was very tasty. A full semi sundried tomato, cut in half was also served but was barely above freezing which was a bit of a shock when I bit into it. The berry and custard tart was crumbly and delicious.

QF628 - MEL-BNE B738

SDT 1725 - FT 02:10

2 cancelled MEL-BNE flights this thursday evening resulted in every single seat being full. Weather was rapidly detoriating and the cabin crew were begging for passengers to not dawdle so we could get out quickly. Pushed back about 30 mins late and after a very fast taxi we climbed through a very wet and turbulent Melbourne evening. 2 options for dinner, greek salad with lamb or thai pork curry with rice. I had the curry and it was pretty decent, the rice was mushy. It came with a "chocolate crunch with wattle seeds," which is possibly the richest thing I have ever eating. The lady next to me offered hers but after a single bite of mine was enough.

QF826 - BNE-DRW B738

SDT: 2040 - FT: 04:15

Departed pretty much on time. Drinks and snacks arrived shortly after take off followed soon after by dinner. There was 3 choices, lamb with lemon sauce and roast potatoes, chicken noodles or ceasar salad with garlic croutons and poached chicken. I opted for the lamb, it was fine without being great. Leaving so late i'd already had dinner so wasn't too bothered. Ice cream came about an hour out of Darwin. The crew on this flight were great. Between the CSM and other FA working in the business cabin it was never more then 5 mins without seeing someone.

After enjoying the view - never tire of it….
IMG_3880.jpeg
Went with the skewer, fish and panna cotta.

It wasn’t a particularly status heavy cabin. I think I saw one other personal greeting after me but orders and food delivery was done by status and trolley for the rest. I’d only tweaked to that after I received my meals and the desert service for others came out by trolley.
IMG_3881.jpeg
Tandoori skewer was tasty but the flat bread was firm so nor wrapable but still ok.
IMG_3882.jpeg
The fish was also tasty and quite well cooked.
IMG_3883.jpeg

Pre arrival prawn dish was a bit on the small side but tasty. Maybe a bit spicy for some pallets also.

Nice flight with attentive crew and service.

Nice flight with attentive crew and service.
The pre arrival prawn dish looks good.

How’s the Qantas wine list in international J these days? I’m always curious as to what price points business class offerings procure wines. American Airlines in J typically run $15 bottles 😂

QF typically not that much different. generally in the A$10-$20 range. You will on occasion get a wine or two a little higher than this.

Two of the wines served on my SYD-BLR flight were:

Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc (Its about $28 a bottle)
Rob Dolan Chardonnay ($25 a bottle)

In EK J between Christchurch and Sydney, the 2 Sauvignon Blanc options (both from New Zealand) were $60 a bottle.

So sandwiched in between American Airlines and EK evidently.

Confit Duck Vol au vent wasn't visually appealing when it hit the table but ate quite well.
IMG_6714.JPEG

The beef also didn't look so good.
IMG_6716..JPEG

And the driest and most overcooked piece of meat I've seen in a long while, completely inedible. Luckily we were full from the lounge feast a few hours earlier.

Thank goodness for the Lounge.
That beef looks so dry and overcooked.
Any comments or even an apology from the FA upon collection of plate etc?

At least it looks like they have proper mid-flight snacks again.

Didn't escalate it or bring it to the crews attention.

Yes agreed however I managed a solid 8 hours sleep so didn't sample either the BLT or the prawn dish. The mid flight snack of a cheese and mushroom toasty on QF12 coming back was disappointing.

Very similar menu QF71 PER-SIN last week. Beef was also inedible. (Both my partner's and mine). We didn't seem to have any Wasabi Butter on top - judging by what I can see on yours! Was very inadequate and left me quite hungry on the almost 6 hour journey.

Sadly they had run out of the fish by the time they reached us in row 4. (Gold - platinum next week for the first time, maybe I'll score a fish next time).

It is understandable that VH cannot immediately fix the acute shortage of aircraft and flight and cabin crew, left to her by Mr Joyce's strategically running QF into a poor version of a LCC. However, raising the quality of meals and wines to an acceptable level in the lounges (particularly the Ist Lounges which are on occasion now rivalling the McDonalds food I saw recently being bought in) as well as on board in business and Why, should be able to be rectified with minimum of delay. The food is not the only reason people spending top dollar to fly Business are deserting QF, but it is one area that can be fixed if VH is really serious.

Totally agree. Forgot to mention the portion sizes were tiny, also.

Surely a $5, $10, dare I say $20 investment in J meals would be worth the return in customer satisfaction?

I've done a lot more QF J travel recently, for the first time, and the food has always been very average.

Looking forward to the Satay sticks on MH next week!

Not to derail the thread but the food on next sector on BA (DFW-LHR) seemed a step up. Bread was warm and soft, presentation was on a different level. I don't fly BA long haul so much but I'd rate the F&B way above QF (seats on the BA 388's not so much).IMG_6722.JPEG

It is well worth seeing comparable meals from time to time. Usually they are much better than Qantas! QF really needs to up its game.
