Qantas Business Class meals & menus

It is well worth seeing comparable meals from time to time. Usually they are much better than Qantas! QF really needs to up its game.
I just flew SYD-CGK-DOH-MAD QF-QR-IB. TBH aspects of the actual F&B on QF were comparable to QR but QR service is a bit more 5* look and feel. But QF crew more friendly and probably more attentive.

QR amuse-bouche, starter, fish main and desert.

IB was a bit more old school. F&B were ok but more like what you might expect on AA/UA.

@RooFlyer another example of broccoli fail….

I thought the breakfast omelette was going to be styrofoam but it was edible.

Both QR and IB had printed wine lists. Which is a criticism of QF but the counter argument it’s not always the same wine.

The presentation!
I thought the QF main course fish dish looked (and actually tasted) better than the Cod on QR. But the chocolate cake did look good but gave me indigestion!

I ate the Dulce de Leche Icecream on IB before remembering to take a photo. It was actually delicious Icecream. The strawberry topping was liberally bits of strawberry on top!

HBA-MEL QF Link 12:00 flight. Asian pork noodles or Wagyu steak and rice the regular options. Having had a poor experience with the steak I returned to the noodles.

Quite tasty and a generous serve.

Great service from the team leader (her name I’m surely butchering but sounded like Temphna). Despite the short flight and several minutes delay while the Y carts are loaded, she managed to serve a full J cabin with ease and with top ups for those who wanted.

Water bottles at the seats upon boarding.

Back on topic, yesterday's QFA127

Menu

Starter is back to nuts

IMG_0125 Large.jpeg

Dumpings entree, served with kimchi

IMG_0132 Large.jpeg

Main - seared snapper with ginger/shallot dressing on top. Served with egg fried rice and baby bak choi

IMG_0135 Large.jpeg

Panna cotta - this was delicious. Burnt sugar, caramalized apple, hazelnut flavours
IMG_0138 Large.jpeg

Snack prior to arrival - sambal tiger prawns. Taste was good and suits my palate. Some may find the spice level a bit high

MEL-AKL 18:30 flight. Approx 1 hour delay.

PDB of sparkling wine or waters offered upon boarding. I had water and said I’d like a whiskey after takeoff which was duly provided without prompting. No pre-meal drink service for the cabin.

Three meal options - Teriyaki chicken with rice; paella with prawns and chorizo; and beef salad.

IMG_5382.jpeg
Paella not an easy dish to replicate in the sky but kudos to QF for something different and I was intrigued to sample. As expected the rice was gluggy and the dish a bit overcooked (probably not helped by a lengthy ground delay). But it was very tasty. Generous serve - in addition to the plain prawns on top there were several substantial prawns in the paella itself. I’d have this again.

Outstanding service from CSM Annie and J cabin attendant Megan. Kind, attentive and friendly throughout the journey.

QF64 JNB-SYD 20 Jul

The dinner service on this flight was the absolute worst I’ve had in many 100s of long-haul J flights across QF, Virgin, United, Emirates etc. They were apparently short 1 cabin crew, but even taking this into account the service was woeful. Lowlights included:
  • On ordering meals, cabin crew mumbled “I’ll just check”, disappeared to the galley to check but then never re-appeared to confirm or otherwise
  • Salad totally undressed - just a bowl of lettuce leaves
  • Other surrounding passengers completing dessert and plates cleared before our mains even arrived !
  • Length of wait for main was excessive, one cabin crew eventually provided an update “the last 3 meals are coming out now, you'll have yours very soon”, 15 minutes later still no meal, CSM passes by “oh we’re still serving another 20 passengers”
  • Sloppy poor of wine, dripping it across the napkin – only refilled wine glass once while we were waiting for meals
  • Running out of vegetables in one dish and arbitrarily substituting vegetables from another dish without explanation (an absolute food service no-no since I was given vegetables I can’t eat)
  • Despite taking my wife’s order, when they deliver my meal they inform her they have run out and would she like a different option
It appears they were taking and filling orders by status, which leaves a very poor aftertaste for people like me – wife and I were self-funded travelers, me with lifetime Gold status – who seemed to be generally ignored in the cabin. I raised the service with the CSM and she offered 2 bottles of wine and 10,000 frequent flyer points, which while appreciated hardly made up for the abysmal experience.

Sounds pretty poor, sadly there are many reports on here of bizarrely slow service on QF.

Just re the above, how do you know other pax didn’t fund their own tickets? Most on AFF (myself included) like that meal orders are taken in order of status - of course allowing advance meal selection would be a better solution for all.

Not the end of of the world

At least we can go overseas

Anyone got the current SYD-LAX J menu?
Sorry I don’t have but you might too full after first class lounge who knows ahaha .
However I’m. Guessing it’s another dinner service cause it arrives at night time now ?

AKL-SYD 13:20 flight.

Usual PDBs offered. No pre-meal drinks service. 3 meal options: braised beef with rice and veg; penne pasta with zucchini and mushrooms; roast chicken salad.

IMG_5393.jpeg
Beef dish was pretty substantial and fresh. Crisp veg and tender pieces of beef. But it was very bland. Even with a reasonable amount of red chilli it lacked any flavour or presence. Side salad was very good (albeit a poor substitute for the old trans-Tasman starters.)

Regular top-ups offered. Waters mid-flight and again shortly before descent, along with a cookie.

Good service from Alice the J attendant. CSM was pretty invisible and don’t recall her name. She did sit down and read her book for a solid 30 minutes at one point which was memorable. To be fair she responded quickly to other pax call bells or waves when needed so nothing to complain about.

Definitely good to have a break and they both ate the spare J meals mid flight. I’ve seen staff on their feet non-stop on these flights. No loss of service as I said, so all good. Was just quite noticeable that she sat and read her book.

If they are going to reintroduce curtains it better be between Y and J first!

The physical barrier is more effective than a weak CSM.

Recent flights have had good enforcement and turn backs to be fair - other than pax with needs which is understandable.
