Qantas Business Class meals & menus

QF38 SIN - MEL
I had the Pho and the Lord the Rendang. Both were delicious but the Rendang a definite winner. However kind of wish skipped dinner (departure time 2330) and head straight to sleep as had already eaten in SIN first class lounge.

Breakfast options- bacon and egg roll, fresh fruit and muesli. We had the later 2 both were enjoyable and as you would expect.

QF693 MEL-ADL
Should have been on QF679 but long lines at customs meant we missed flight and QF693 was the only one that J seats available.

Meal options
Lamb salad with chickpeas and get which I enjoyed
Chicken curry which the Lord commented “was nice but after several weeks in Thailand seems a bit bland” 🤣

Wine top ups plentiful including the change to very full plastic cups for landing

Another example of domestic business class catering that puts Qantas to shame. (Intra Europe is basically domestic.)
I agree that Euro business usually has pretty good food quality, but in my experience on these <2h flights with BA, Finnair, and KLM they usually only have one food option, which I'm really not a fan of.

At least Qantas will offer 2 or 3 options on these flights, with at least one hot.

3 options to P1, 2 options to WP, 1 option to a basic fare paying J pax...
Not necessarily tbh. If I am in Row 3 on a 737 as a P1, there's zero guarantee I will get a choice (but I usually don't bither with food on the shorter sectors)

I think one flight in maybe 200 over the past few years (dom) had I been approached and asked my preference ahead of anyone else.

I understand your point of course, with seat allication preferences and the status advantage, but the top tiers don't always want to be in row 1 (a subject oft discussed here of course).

my mum and I are platinum

Flying from Melbourne to auckland in March crew member came took our orders before everyone else. Then she went back to make the meals and served everyone . Including us row 3 . Via the cart down the aisle .

Felt special getting first dibs on meals . Hahaha

maybe the only platinums onboard 😀😀. Or because we declined meal on the Syd to Mel leg cause we wanted to save our save our selves for the first lounge . Although did accept the Easter bunny chocolate . They were excellent
The Koko black ones over Easter weekend .

Another example of domestic business class catering that puts Qantas to shame. (Intra Europe is basically domestic.) This was a 1hr 50 min flight from OSL to AMS. The meal is cold, but beautifully boxed for service. A diced sweet potato salad with a serve of walnuts, and two macarons for dessert. Two fresh bread rolls added. Plenty of decent wine as well.

The next flight from AMS to HAM was 1hr 5 mins and had the same presentation, but an Asian rice noodle and prawn salad, cashews and macarons. Great service, especially as the aircraft sat on the tarmac both ends due to a massive storm. At AMS, the Captain brought interested passengers up to view the coughpit. Great crew!

I'm going to hazard a guess that if QF started serving the only option (or options) in J were salads, as good as they might be presented, there would be a riot and a five alarm fire at Coward Street.... the members on this forum would bring the petroleum, just for starters (pun intended)...

I should note I don't mind a good salad, but a hot option is a hot option worth considering... and by and large, in Euro J a lot of the meals are actually cold / ambient, especially on short routes (except for whatever pastry or bakery warmed up in the oven): charcuterie plates, sweet tarts, salad plates (e.g. I had a prawn salad plate one time), cold canapes......

Yes, they do this far more on international I agree. Still not totally consistently though ime.

I was referring to domestic flights earlier.

Ah domestic my bad . Maybe they give everyone a fair chance . Which is nice

I did do one premium economy flight to Japan in January and no welcome onboard from csm I wanted to ask for those pyjamas haha . I kinda just asked some random crew member towards end of flight lol maybe I wasn’t taken seriously

Although I did score a pair on the way back in business on day flight. Just said I know you don’t stock them on day flights but can I have and they looked straightaway came back with. A pair . I think another passenger asked . After me . But I was only one who get them .

I think I prefer one excellent meal done well, than maybe or maybe not getting your choice, which may or may not be well cooked. Both meals (each direction) were excellent.

Well, not really. Since 99% of the time they start with row 1 and go from there, you get more chance of all options the further forward you are.

Well pj's are not a standard amenity in W.

I think I generally agree, and I personally have no trouble with such an approach on Asian carriers (since I love the vast majority of Asian food), however as we found out earlier in this thread sometimes people can be quite picky with what food they want, so having just one option does sorta suck for them.
