Qantas Business Class meals & menus

QF1904 CBR-BNE
10am departure

Two breakfast choices - frittata with pork, or frittata with beef. I had the pork option.

I upgraded with points 2 hours before departure and was apparently marked down as “catering not assured”, but still got a choice of meals.

Posting premium economy meals Per-Syd-Per QF34 + QF33 because they are the same as Domestic J

Had the same main course for the return, so did not take a photo.

Good taste
I wonder if the average person would be more or less confused if they had just said, "Beef Bourguignon" rather than "Beef and bacon burgundy" (which is somewhat incorrect as the latter is a proper noun).

Of course, they could say, "Slow-cooked beef in red wine stew," and probably call it a day.

Interesting. Whilst I love Beef Bourguignon, I didn't even associate the menu description with the dish.

QF941 BNE-PER Sat Oct 12, 738 VH-VZO sched 1845 actual pushback 1842, takeoff 1853 (01R)
Pleasantly on time departure for a change, very good service from CSM Fiona.
No PDBs but bottled water was waiting on the seat on boarding.

Rather than just the usual Chivas, the Australian single malt Starward Nova ($99 at Dan's) was on offer, had this as a pre dinner drink with the usual Santos nibblies. While I prefer peatier whiskies, this one was actually very good.

Chicken curry with rice and veggies, smoked salmon coleslaw on the side. While the curry obviously wasn't matching Mrs DrJ's creations, was unexpectedly good with the chicken at the right level of done-ness; hit the spot tonight. The same lower tier Xanadu cabernet which disappointed yesterday was on the list again so went with the pleasantly quaffable sauv blanc (whose name escaped me) which was the only other vinous option tonight.
Lamb shank and lamb salad were the other dinner options.

The usual Maggie’s ice cream presented afterward. Wanting to limit the booze tonight so didn’t ask about dessert wine, but hopefully some would have been on offer given yesterday’s experience.

QF545 BNE>SYD 20 October. Options were Thai pork curry or a chicken salad. I went the curry and quite enjoyed it. Had a nice kick to it with the included chilli. Desert - which I skipped - was carrot cake with cream cheese icing. Friendly and efficient service. Sadly the aircraft (VH-VXB) had non-functioning wifi :(

QF879, OOL>SYD, QF157 MEL>AKL respectively.

QF879: options were Pork asian stir fry noodles, or slow cooked beef with steamed veges "on the side".
Having been presented both options despite being in 3K I wondered if I could get the "on the side" veges on the side of the stir fry noodle option, expecting a small bowl of hot veges.

Lo and behold I got two mains! Both delicious. Veges not really steamed, more like oven roasted.

QF157: options were teriyaki chicken fried rice, chorizo paella (with a dozen prawns!) or beef thai-style(?) salad.

Paella was lovely, just the right amount of spice, and hearty.
Not a huge fan of the boccocini and pasta starter, and I was surprised to see a stick of cheese wrapped in baking paper (below the butter). First time seeing that.

QF1277 CBR-MEL
Only one option for the short hop, which was French Toast with Leg Ham and Tomatoes. Very good with differing flavour elements combining well like tomato and the toast.

Toast was moist but not soggy. Ham, tomato and onion were also cooked well. One of the better breakfast meals I've had in the air.

Not bad for canberra to Melbourne.

QF1905 BNE-CBR
Delayed 11:25 departure

The two choices were a croissant with bacon and cheese, or a toasted sandwich with egg, bacon and cheese. I had the sandwich.

To be honest, this meal felt really cheap and the options were too similar. I wish that one of the options would have been a salad or something.

The economy toilets were out of order so there was a steady stream of passengers heading to the front toilet during the flight. Cabin crew was lovely, though.

Thankfully it was just a steady stream of passengers otherwise that could have been a far less enjoyable flight ;)

Yeah those options do sound like a bit of a cop-out.

Looks cheap!

Surely catering should think that one mostly bread/wheat is enough and it might be wise to have something a bit different, even a lunch dish

The toastie maker must have been on low.

Might be O/T but I’m curious if anyone’s ever thought of how much one would pay for the J food if it was served on the ground vs 38000ft.

Might start putting a “I think it’s worth $AUD XX) on my posts 😅
Don't they just chuck a few Lean Cuisines in the galley ovens and serve once defrosted (with a side of Neil's leaves)? 😜

QF152 AKL - MEL, QF878 MEL - OOL

QF152 Solid breakfast options, even for 3F - some croissant, spinach quiche or quinoa and hazelnut bowl with spiced pear, coconut and blueberry.

Would pay $25 for the bowl - full of nuts and fruit which was refreshing.

Yoghurt was a tad sour. Snail was so-so.

QF878 - options were teriyaki chicken fried rice or a cold beef salad.

Chicken was on the saltier side but was very juicy and tender.
Bread was warm and the butter was just at the right temp, so was very spreadable.

Not pictured - passionfruit cheesecake. De-li-cious

Very attentive service from the staff on this flight.

Would pay $20 for the set

MEL-NTL
Scheduled: 08:40-10:10
Actual: 09:40-10:50
E190

The only choice left at row 3 with 6 pax served and 3 pax still to serve. Pork sausages with mushrooms, tomato and a quiche? It was quite tasty and substantial.

For some reason, service, while very friendly, was quite slow. It was 10:20 when I took this photo. That's about 40 minutes after take-off. Decent was taking place soon after!

I noted that service was much faster on the NTL-MEL return (also an E190).

Described as wagyu beef and mushroom maybe with pastry, maybe without. It was the only choice on this short trip. It was fairly inedible due to the pastry. No sauce / relish. Most trays I saw were returned to the galley uneaten. Also disappointing as the J Lounge was serving beef pies.

I've seen better looking croissants at 3am at a servo! Well not really as I'm asleep by then :(

And yes, looks like bacon was "enhanced" from the dom J lounge breakfasts about 18 months ago :(
Man’s going to Melbourne I’m sure he will live. Lol

My first go of the "new" menu last week on MEL-BNE.

Noting Koko Black seems to be gone now (per otger pics also) and back to the boxed cakes. I have mixed thoughts - the cakes are generally OK, but choccy is easier to keep to have later if desired. Eh

Only two choices (maybe soup enhanced out again?) A chicken salad, and the "pork with noodles":

This was fairly tasty. Nothing to blow one away, but most definitely a filling option. Wine was a South Aussie Sauv Blanc that was OK.

Service was good. Crew profusely thanked me for swapping so a couple (upgraded) could sit together. Someone said I was a "hero" which seems to be going a little far, but ok lol
I find the cakes drier . Bring back the chocolates ! However we are in summer time maybe they don’t want it melting in peoples bags!!
