The Salad - on a "salad, soup or box" flight (i.e. PM 90 minute scheduled services)

MEL-ADL lunch flight - the Tom Yum soup. It was very zesty in the way a TY should be even despite a lack of real pieces of veg/meat. I really enjoyed it!

Mel-Syd tonight in J, what looked like Findus Microwave Lasagne (served cold) and green beans with a cupcake for dessert and bread.

Refused to take a photo, utterly disappointing - rounding out a very disappointing 6 weeks in Qantas domestic J for food.

The crew were very good but it was obvious they were embarrassed in serving up this muck.

Whilst it may not be the most visually pleasing (it is hard to beat nonna's), but as an Italian I didn't find it that bad.

Moroccan style roast capsicum soup.



Spirelli pasta salad with roast chicken and basil oil dressing.



Third choice was an Asian style omelette with shiitake mushrooms.

Wines offered were;

• Penny's Hill Shiraz Cabernet Merlot
• Vasse Felix Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Pea and mint soup with a dob of crème fraiche.



Other choices were;

• Salami, fontina cheese and tomato toasted sandwich
• Quinoa salad with feta and sweet potato

Wines offered were;

• St Hallet Eden Valley Riesling
• Shingleback Davey Estate Shiraz

Might have looked like Findus... but i can guarantee it wasn't.

Findus is at least $4-$5 at the supermarket... about 100% over budget looking at some of the recent meals

I think the fact that it is even being compared to a findus meal tells the story.

you know i want a profitable Qantas as much as the next person, but a couple of dollars extra on J meals is going to add up to not a whole lot, if its that big a problem, put the price up by $2. just dont keep giving me the equivalent of Neil Perry Happy meals.

Not exactly about onboard food but.... I'm in MEL J and they've got out pickled onions, gherkins, cheese and everything for a ploughmans. Have I just totally missed that recently or is this new?

Was there about 4 hours ago and didn't see. But to be honest all I was looking for was the octopus salad - used to be a regular in Mel Dom J but sadly haven't seen it for many months.

They also have this set up in the MEL QP most times when I pass by on a Sunday evening. Makes a great accompaniment to the wine on offer.

I was wondering if Qantas reducing cost by offering non-alcoholic pre-take off drinks? Flew QF571 from Sydney to Perth and only either water or sparkling Cabernet while on the ground.

Also during the meal service, there are usually 2 glasses (one for water and the other for wine) placed on the dressed table. But only one glass (for water) was placed on the table and the wine glass from the post-take off drink service also becomes the wine glass for the meal service.

Is this a new SOP for QF? Or did it only happen on my flight?

I can't recall anytime in recent memory being offered an alcoholic beverage pre-take off on domestic J (or in the last couple of years for that matter...) I thought it was just the norm...

Keeping the same wine glass is ok if you are drinking the same wine.... but switching wines and keeping the same glass is just dodgy.

Definitely no alcholic pre-departure drink for domestic flights.

I had the mezze plate for the evening refreshment MEL-ADL on 31 May and really enjoyed it. The trout terrine with cornichons and grilled bread on the morning refreshment rotation is also a winner.
