Well that's good to know, and certainly encourages me to keep posting. But no substitute for a more interactive red roo, in my opinion.

Was that your mains? I love the dish but I can't imagine it to be very filling, particularly if this was lunch or dinner service.

Yes it was lunch service. It was surprisingly filling - the 5 pancakes were still quite thin but I certainly wasn't hungry after it.

It was one of the best meals I've had on QF.

Also to note of interest. Was on an A330-300 (incidently VH-QPJ,, "Rainbow Roo") and the meal service in J was from back of the cabin forward rather than forward back. Not seen that before on QF.

Domestic crew will sometimes do the service from back to front on the A333 as the galley is positioned behind Business Class. It makes it easier for the 'runner' (either the CSM or the galley operator) to fulfil ad hoc drinks requests, offer tea and coffee and clear the trays. On East-West flights, it also enables the galley operator to quickly clear small plates and deliver mains as the aisle crew continue to serve the entree. This would not be possible if working forward to aft.

Which is fine for efficiency but if you are a status pax in row 1 or 2 and either miss out on your preference or don't get served for an extra XX minutes you wouldn't be too pleased.

That said, I've found the service on the A330s MEL-SYD or vv always very slow, with some pax only being served after descent has commenced. So if back to front helps that, probably a good thing.

Not really a meal, but an effort to make those Santos pretzel mix a little more classy was appreciated :D

Yep. I had the pancakes recently too. Agree with it being one of the best meals I've had on QF - delicious and filling!

I had that not too long ago (back to front service on A333). I was getting rather annoyed when I noticed as I was in 1A, but the FA apologised when she got to me and said she kept one of everything to ensure I got my choice. Once I selected she told the FA serving the other aisle that the other options were now available to those passengers.

Of course no guarantees of that happening but it was an appreciated touch :)

Which as fine, as long as orders are taken front to back at the start.

ADL - MEL QF J
Dep ADL 14.55
Arr MEL 16.35
Surprised to get this.
Not bad, considering it was after lunch time dep, serving size was enough, would have been nice if they had a bit of cut chilli on the side, a bit too much soya sauce.

Bit of a bumpy flight, thought the wine and water fluets were going to fly off the tray.
Better than the VA biscuit and juice in whY today, back to ADL.

Nice one AP. I'm probably going to regret saying this, but I've found the QF J food outside of meal times to be a lot better of late. Will be a while before I fly them again but here's hoping the flights out of CBR continue to improve.

Noting the change to the Koko Black "mini blocks" (for want of a better phrase).

A quality premium local (Melbourne) brand for sure. Better than the random cakelet/tart/cheesecake offered? unsure. Jury still out. It's an interesting change. Only seems to have come in in the last week (was not evident at the start of March).

Weekend J flights to/from BNE had unremarkable food options otherwise tbh.

I wouldn't mind having Koko Black. Healthier option than the usual dessert ;)

Here's my GF dinner on QF J SYD-MEL last Friday (on the way to CHC)

Uninspiring, over cooked barramundi.

Dumplings?

If so yum, that's quite different for QF.

They've been floating around for a while now. I first had them mid last year.

I've had a few variations now - all quite delicious. I was half tempted to ask if they had any extras of the prawn dumplings when I had those!

10/3
MEL-SYD
Refreshment service (10am flight)
Three options: chicken panini, prosciutto salad, and I cant remember the third one.
I chose the salad as we were headed to the SYD F lounge for lunch, and it was perfect and very delicious. Didn't eat the yoghurt and I think I turned down the offer of bread.

BNE-MEL
Refreshment service (9.55am flight, departed 10.25am and arrived 1.30pm)
Three options: chicken toastie and two other things that I can't recall...

Went with the toastie and pretty much regretted it. Heavily buttered sourdough, a smear of "romanesco" sauce and some bland slice of chicken. It really needed some other filling to add a bit of zing. A bit less oil on the outside would have been nice too. Definitely a miss rather than a hit.

QFJ BNE MEL.JPG

Asked for red wine (12pm Melbourne time at this point) and received the Parker Coonwarra Estate Cabernet 2014.
Offered bread or a raspberry friand (which was delish), and given a pack of pretzels/nuts just prior to landing.
