Qantas Business Class meals & menus

MEL - ADL yesterday (Lunchtime Flight).... Curtain was not closed also which I thought was strange, however it did not really bother me sitting in 1A , If I was in the third row then perhaps I would have been more concerned if being stared at enjoying my J meal...

Pre departure water or apple & strawberry juice
No hot towels or newspapers. The CSA mentioned that many pax complain about the removal of hot towels when I brought up the issue with her.
Given that I have previously partaken of the salmon salad I decided that on this occasion I would enjoy the pleasures of a herb encrusted lamb accompanied by roast vegetables, with a sprinkling of freshly cracked pepper topped off with the usual bread offering. The sweet concoction after the main meal was not so enjoyable but then I don't have a sweet tooth.
Did not get to enjoy any in flight wine as I consumed a sufficient quantity in the J lounge and had to drive home from the airport.

Slightly OT but still about the J experience, it should be noted that the IFE was only working on 4 channels so missed out on my favourite, my seat 1A nor 1B had an inflight magazine and the curtain separating the 2 cabins was left open. I find it surprising that some crew choose to close the curtain whilst other crew leave it open. Perhaps some crew close it to stop the other mob using the J Loo. Which do you prefer as a J pax?

Seat 1A. Load in J was 11/12. I was lucky to have the only spare seat next to me :)

Aircraft was a BSI, with the red claret leather Business seat all with personal IFE.

Service was billed as lunch. CSM did lunch from the cart.

I opted for the barramundi with garam masala sauce. The other option was Cuban beef stew.

The barramundi arrived and smelled great. It was served on a bed of egg noodles and some steamed sugar snap peas. The noodles were a bit dry-chewy in places (particularly the parts not covered by the fish) and the sugar snap peas were maybe slightly overcooked (not mush, but hasn't got the complete snap of nice blanched peas). The barramundi was fantastic. Cooking barramundi so that it's moist and tasty is not easy on the ground, let alone in the air! But it was cooked spot on and tasted great.

Given that these dishes are prepared to instruction, I wouldn't be confident that if I selected this option again, the fish would come out just as well as this time. But that's a risk I'm prepared to take because the dish tasted so good. Purists will say there isn't enough spice in the garam masala. However, the taste was there and added character to the fish. The Cuban beef appeared to be served with rice and vegetables.

Generous fish serving went down nicely with a swig of Sauvignon Blanc from Teusner wine estate, South Australia. Also present was warm bakery with the requisite Lurpak butter (spreadable), a bottle of water and passionfruit syrup cake, shaped in a love heart (must be February). Cake was moist and really good.

CSM was brilliant. He looked and sounded a bit like he learned from The Godfather (bit of a throaty voice), but a good man who made good conversation, came back through the cabin to keep wines topped up and offer coffee, tea or other beverages. Reminds me why I fly Qantas. This post reminds me I need to file a message of compliment for the CSM.

Alternatives: Roast beef with potato salad or soup

Presentation would be improved if this cheese came on a plate imo. Agree... more crackers. But I use bread if needed

Agree, without a plate the cheese box looks clumsy... How does one cut the cheese  oops, my bad... That's funny lol

Even when the cheese was on a plate, the cracker provision was rather lean.

The purists (especially Europeans) would argue that a cheese is to be appreciated and enjoyed on its own, so crackers (as well as melba toast, bread, lavosh and so on) should be minimised.

The new cheese boxes seem to be more generous in the cheese compared to the old cheese plates. The old cheese plates seemed to go a bit overboard on the fruit (viz. dried figs, muscatels, etc.)

Perhaps, since they don't have to stock as much bakery on such a route, they should reduce the bakery and have a tin of crackers handy ("Sir, can I offer you some warm bakery or biscuits?")

I find that cheese box magnificent, and wish I'd opted for it much earlier. The "cheese plate" on QF6 last week was utterly laughable by comparison.

HBA-MEL 9:50am departure, 'morning tea' (might have been snip.......snip .........
Snip.......Potato cakes with egg and bacon coughpy 'Café breakfast'. Obviously the 2 divisions have different catering cost bases and probably different cost cutting imperatives, but ya gotta wonder who's conducting the orchestra.

Sorry to say this but it looks like Vomit !
