Qantas Business Class meals & menus

A quick trip to the Gold Coast to spend a few days with family.

QF862 SYD-OOL 6/7/17 1350 departure

Salmon with squid ink noodles - it was rather delicious. Wine was a Montepulciano (I forget the winery), there was also a Riesling.

QF865 OOL-SYD 9/7/17 1555 departure

Barramundi with potatoes - also very nice. Wine was a Voyager Estate Chardonnay served nicely chilled (the CSM informed me it was kept on ice from Sydney as they double cater this sector). I didn't take note of the red as I'm quite fond of the Voyager (I buy it for home) and went straight to that.

Those noodles are making their way around the network; we've had them on SYD-WLG and SYD-MEL...

QF587 01JUL17 ADL-PER lunch. Buffalo bocconcini with prosciutto, cherry tomatoes and gazpacho dressing followed by roast chicken with fried polenta, braised bitter greens and salmoriglio Enjoyed the trip to Perth with a good crew and a well paced lunch. I did have the cheese but didn't take a picture.

The other main plate choices were: Moroccan spiced chickpea and tomato soup with braised lamb and parsley, tiger prawn salad with buckwheat noodles, shredded cabbage, carrots, shallots and sesame soy dressing, chorizo dog with roast peppers and aioli. The cheese selection was Cabecou du Perigord and Swiss Gruyère. The buffalo bocconcini was the only small plate available.

I asked the crew about the popularity of the hot dog and they said it very much depends on the route; no one on our flight had it. The J load was 11/12 and eight chicken mains were loaded.

Not having flown a transcon, or the ADL version of such, for some while I was pleasantly surprised by warmed smoked almonds in a bowl to kick things off with the pre-lunch drinks. Why this can't replace the cheap pretzels in a packet across the Tasman and, Heaven forbid, in longhaul J escapes me.

That is cutting it fine. I try to allow more time in between flights unless I know it's almost certainly going to be the same plane used (the plane that flies SYD-OOL will also do the leg OOL-SYD). I did this run this year. I am not a morning person so would normally go for a later first flight.

I prefer the MEL-BNE-CNS run even though it takes longer and is more tiring. It does cost more but gives more SCs. More time between meals does help with being able to enjoy more of the food.

QF511 BNE-SYD (08:35 departure)

The meal was described as morning tea, so I'm guessing this flight somehow fell outside the designated breakfast times.

The choices were a bacon sandwich, ham salad or a plate of sliced fruit. Most passengers chose the sandwich, which also had chicken (or possibly turkey) on it.

Bread was offered to accompany the bread.

Actually just telling them what you are up to is the best bet. They'll get it once you explain what you're doing. It happens quite a bit

Yes! I got my first bottle of CSM wine this way ("Bless you, why don't you take this home to celebrate...")

Had a pastrami and cheese toastie on the weekend, MEL-ADL, approx 1pm flight.

Best toasted sanga I've had onboard. Ironic as it was out of a box -- I was in Y. Go figure.

I reckon on some flights I hear the offerings in Y and they seem like better options than what's in J!

Gosh those paper salt/pepper sachets are so tacky and cheap looking, aren't they? Like something from a highway greasy spoon from the early 90s.

While these do look terrible the content is the same so doesn't fuss me. What does annoy me is the snack packet of pretzels (badged as cashews and pretzels). Done enough flights in J on other carriers (domestic and international) lately to confirm that this just makes QF look like such cheapskates.

No pic sorry, but did have a very nice Ham and Gruyere omelette ADL-SYD yesterday. Tomatoes the only accompaniment and they were over cooked, but otherwise very nice.

Aw c'mon, it's at least a packet of pretzels and (cashew * 0.5)... you gotta give them credit where credit's due...  ;)
