Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Slightly OT as I know this is the Dom thread. But I've been fortunate to fly LH, SQ, QF and EK all in J this month. Warm mixed nuts (premium, not a peanut -- or novelty pretzel -- in sight) and topped up on EK and LH. One LH flight had a bowl of macadamias (only two people in F so J pax got a bonus). SQ also did the packet nuts but they were proper cashews and almonds. My last QF J flight (3 hours) no pre-meal drink was offered nor any nuts. In J this is very sub-standard.

Gee seems the norm for QF on flights of ~2h and longer (eg: MEL-BNE/OOL + ) to have a drink service prior to meal. Sometimes they haven't but I reckon 90% of the time they have. no time on the shorter segments, but the 2hour min flights seem more than enough for a 737 J cabin service like this.

My flight was an A330. They just haven't got the service right on these, in my opinion. Painfully slow. I was in 2A and it was 50 minutes after the seatbelt sign was switched off before my table was set and the service started. And the pax in 1A and 1E were travelling staff, and while their orders were taken last, they were served first. Drink orders should have been taken with the meal requests and drinks served well before the trolleys roll out. Deliberate policy I'm sure. (I've seen the trolley appear within 2 minutes on the shorter sectors, so it is possible!!)

The 330's are slower. I seem to recall reading here somewhere maybe they pulled a FA out of J or something which slows it up a bit? maybe I am imagining that. Either way it usually *seems* like there's a lot of crew yet it does take a long time. MEL-SYD and v.v. flights can get tight - as you say if you're up front let alone in 4 or 5!

While these do look terrible the content is the same so doesn't fuss me. What does annoy me is the snack packet of pretzels (badged as cashews and pretzels). Done enough flights in J on other carriers (domestic and international) lately to confirm that this just makes QF look like such cheapskates.

Aw c'mon, it's at least a packet of pretzels and (cashew * 0.5)... you gotta give them credit where credit's due...  ;)

Wouldn't mind the odd macadamia. I was trying to pick them all out of the bowl of nuts on the bar in MEL J yesterday (with the utensil provided!)

Like this maybe...

(I apologise for the cheap shot..)

MEL-SYD 3.30pm Friday 28 July
Choice of pork belly (I don't do pork), soup (I had a white shirt on) or cheese platter.

SYD-OOL 6.15pm Friday 28 July
Choice of lamb chops or soup.
Lamb chops were OK but not much meat on them. Service was terrible. Due to strong tailwinds, the flight was only 50 minutes and service didn't begin until half an hour into the flight, leaving barely any time to finish. I asked for a wine top up and the FA said (paraphrasing), "Oh, there's the engines throttling down so we are descending so I don't have time."

OOL-MEL 10.55am Sunday 30 July
Choice of beef cheeks or chicken curry. Was surprised that this was a lunch flight. Chicken was thigh, which I am not overly fond of, but it was a decent meal. Service was wonderful. Michael couldn't have looked after us better if he tried.

Shame when that happens. I've flown with an FA a few times on the short MELADL evening service who knows I like to sample to the grape juice. They've provided me with a paper cup to enjoy the onboard product on descent.

Last Fri's MEL-ADL QF701 was a choice of Morroccan chickpea spiced soup, cheese platter or crispy pork with rice and asian vegetable. The crispy pork dish, although not crispy, was so tasty, I forgot to take a photo before devouring them. Wine choices were Heathcote Cab Sav and Clare Valley Riesling (forgot which one).

QF 530 today (2pm) SYD-BNE had a surprise onboard more from 4c to 3c ("we have a spare seat if you'd like to join us for afternoon tea").
A very nice salmon with mash meal, but interesting to note that pre-departure drinks are now still or sparkling water, and dessert is now the Koko Black chocolate square. A great CSM and crew, and a nice way to end the weekend.
